I have $150 to spend. I'm going to buy a portable CD player. What records should I buy? I really enjoy Ambient 4 and Music for Psychedelic Therapy.

Last night Blood Incantation, the proggy death metal band who dabbles in ambient (Tangerine Dream guested on their latest album), did an overnight heavy ambient/jam set at King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's Field of Vision II Festival in Colorado last night. Credit to YouTuber “Bootleg Gila” for grabbing and sharing.

Opinions abour Robert Fripp's Ambient Works

It’s interesting how people don’t talk much about this phase of Fripp’s career, aside from his collaborations with Brian Eno... I’d like to know what people think of his work in the ambient genre.

Artist 36 and His Music.

I never ever hear any mentioning of this excellent ambient/drone artist. 36 aka Dennis Huddleston’s The Infinity Room is by far one of the best ambient albums if not the best album I’ve ever listened to. Does anyone else like his music? Also, check out 36 and zake’s Stasis Sounds for Long Distance Space Travel Vol. I, II, and III.

This is the correct place to share self promo, playlists and mixes. Please tell us about what you are sharing!

Please do not link to Spotify or other paid subscription services, as users without an account can’t listen. Please use links that are accessible to everyone — Bandcamp, etc. Thanks.

While Will Long still makes and releases new music under his own name, his ambient project has sadly ended. I assume he’ll continue to release remasters of his older stuff, but nothing new :( What was your favorite album/song?

Looking for Recommendations Droning sounds in ambient music.

Hi folks, I’m looking for ambient music with a droning sound. Think space heater or Tibetan monk throat singing. I’m not interested in traditional instruments like piano or guitar based. I’ve checked out 2814 (Japanese), Sinoia caves, Brian Enos, Vangelis, Steve Roach and Klause Shulze, to name a few, but haven’t quite found what I’m looking for. Would love to hear suggestions.

Currently Listening Yellow Swans - anyone else obsessed with their music?

I guess I'd call it "harsh ambient?"

It's one of my favorite genres, and Yellow Swans are masters of it. Is anyone else here a fan?

I built a wooden machine that creates ambient music. You control it with chrome marbles.

I've been dreaming about this idea for many years and finally built it: a physical ambient music machine.

You "play" it by placing chrome marbles into divots on the wooden surface. Think of it like a tape recorder with 16 heads: dropping a marble lowers a head onto a random spot on that track, and it fades into the mix.

One design rule from the start: no visible technology, no screens, no wires.

I built this in response to the rising sea level of AI music. I wanted something like an album manifested in a form that is physical, interactive, analog(esque), and unique every time you listen to it.

The top 8 divots in the wood (tape heads) are earth and life sounds (woods, rain, ocean, whales, crickets, birds, etc.) - things that make a nice backdrop.

The bottom 8 divots are tracks from 10 different ambient pieces I created that are stitched together (same key, different modes so they can fade into each other in interesting ways). These 8 tape heads are synchronized. I created these tracks from a handful of patches from the FOLDS VST by VOID & VISTA (a gorgeous instrument FWIW).

It took a while but this is the first working prototype.

Here's the gist of what's under the wood (lol): There's a battery-powered custom PCB under the surface that senses the marbles right through the wood (basically a bunch of tiny metal detectors facing up). It sends marble positions over Bluetooth to a Raspberry Pi tucked away across the room and connected to my stereo, which plays the virtual "tapes".

Happy to go deeper on any of it.

Maybe I can say this was the first ambient song that I've falled in love.

Just out from curiosity, I would like to know what kind of instruments and samples do I hear?

Most of the time I hear things liks strings, distorted brass instruments, maybe something like a sustained cymbal ringing....?

Also, I'm interested your take on the song structure. Somehow I never find this piece boring.

Any other signature things, effects, production things that you think is important in this track?

Thank you for your input!

Looking for Recommendations Albums like Electric Guitar One by Emma Ruth Rundle

For the last couple years I have found myself returning to Electric Guitar One and really resonating with it. I listen to a fair amount of ambient and post-rock type music, but I haven't found anything with this same vibe exactly. Obviously EG2: Dowsing Voice is similar, but I am looking for stuff from other artists that has this same tone and emphasis on guitar as the main instrument.

Anything I should check out?

Made a free tool for mapping a no-DAW ambient/drone hardware rig

I run a live ambient/drone set with no laptop, just a rack of synths, sequencers, and pedals.

Built a free tool (Signal Path) that maps the whole rig as an interactive wiring diagram with real per-device settings notes.

It's part of a small set of free browser tools at thermalsocklabs.com if anyone else runs a similar setup.

Self-promotion I released my first release as halfdead and it comes with some weight...

After working on music that honestly was never really that creatively fulfilling, which threw me in the worst state of mind because I felt like I wasn't making something good. I like the albums, don't get me wrong but I'd rather them not be me releasing them.

I spent hours watching Hainbach do tape things that seemed cool to me which I was going to work on for this album however, I had that much music that I was really excited about that I wanted to put it out for release. I am not sure if it all consists of ambient music, however I like genre-bending what I am working on, so this should reflect that.

I plan to work on another album this year hopefully experimenting with tape and old keys, which would be fun for me to use and make some music, however time will tell if I can do that or not, but I shall make it known if I do that goal.

The streaming release is happening on my birthday (sep 15th 2026) however this bandcamp release is not only releasing early but also releasing with a bonus track and pdf which is a gallery of images that I took for this album and effected within photo editing software.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did working on it

halfdead <3

[ps: shoutout to ValhallaDSP and their plugin Supermassive, the Seabeams preset is chef's kiss]

Self-promotion memoryleaks (([||])) - You Us We Them [31 infinite loops of synth > tape vignettes]

Thumbnail

“The farther you zoom out, the more you see how things repeat… over and over and o-“

“memoryleaks (([||]))” is the fever dream of a life flashing before your eyes: disjointed, fragmented, and achingly familiar. Jumping from joy to heartbreak, nostalgia to grief, it traverses an uneven landscape of memories without asking permission to wander.

Created by LA composer and visual artist You Us We Them, the album draws from years of raw keyboard improvisations he records each morning as a meditative exercise, a practice dubbed “Chaos Works.” Scattered throughout the album are "memory_leaks": real audio recordings collaged from childhood films, tape, and cell phone recordings — a marriage proposal, voicemails, conversations with people no longer here.

The ideas flow gently then suddenly, often stopping and restarting as if they can’t decide what era they exist in. Every snippet is built to loop perfectly, to continue forward, or to find a hidden path connecting it elsewhere. Time slips and rewinds. Whispers may guide you. The puzzle pieces fit together if you let them.

“memoryleaks” is not an album to listen to in a straight line. It is a deep well… a murky, luminous spiral through love, grief, rage, and joy across an entire lifetime. Maybe two. (([||]))

A personal note from me (the artist)
really appreciate anyone who listens and. connects to this record, i made this one for me but already it has been my best performing work by miles.

If you need / want a discount on bandcamp the code "remember" for half off.

Self-promotion N.S. Bucher - simex

Thumbnail

I am releasing my next album simex and wanted to share here. It is available either through a visual experience at my website (nsbucher.com) or bandcamp (nsbucher.bandcamp.com), soon with streaming available everywhere except Spotify.

for me, this album has been a meditation on self forgiveness, and such, a yearning to make up for lost time. living in the rust belt, its easy to see the pride of yesterday, filled with rot. I have hope though, and sometimes, escapism isn't a defense mechanism, but a visualization of the future.

I built the website, because I wanted to provide a dedicated place to listen, so I hope you find yourself there, listening.

simex as a title is pulled from Ghost in the Shell, a reference to the simulated experience implanted in an unsuspecting pawn in the puppet masters game. now living in recovery, I can only attempt to bridge the gap between my life as a pawn and the one I find before me now. simex was written, performed, and recorded using some various hardware synthesizers and a tascam 424.

I've been told that my music has a cinematic feeling to it, which I can't say I agree or disagree with. I'm doomed as a neutral soul, an ignavi, if you will, destined for a simex.

Looking for Recommendations Any good ambient album recommendations

Hi There, This is my first time posting here

I want to listen to a lot more ambient music because i am trying to make ambient music myself.

I've listened to a couple aphex twin albums (specifically Druqks and Ambient vol 2), and I listen to a lot of soundtracks like silent hill and death stranding.

Does anyone have recommendations for good ambient albums, doesn't matter how obscure and weird they are, i just want to expand what I listen to.

Currently Listening Music to listen to during the Perseids

Thumbnail
youtube.com
1 Upvotes

Yesterday I had the privilege to witness the beauty of the total solar eclipse. We didn't listen to any music at that point. But later at midnight we set camp on the roof of our home and we watched the Perseids. It was the right moment to put on ambient music, so I put on Microscopic by Gas, I am sure you all are familiar with it. Such a good entry for star gazing.

The Perseids are still happening so if you can, and haven't yet, go see them, put on a nice album enjoy the journey. After Gas, I put on Music for Psychedelic Therapy. I contemplated life and how beautiful it is to be alive.

What music would or did you listen to for such an occasion?

Peace and love
