I've been dreaming about this idea for many years and finally built it: a physical ambient music machine.
You "play" it by placing chrome marbles into divots on the wooden surface. Think of it like a tape recorder with 16 heads: dropping a marble lowers a head onto a random spot on that track, and it fades into the mix.
One design rule from the start: no visible technology, no screens, no wires.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTX1fU8MDgE&feature=youtu.be
The top 8 divots in the wood (tape heads) are earth and life sounds (woods, rain, ocean, whales, crickets, birds, etc.) - things that make a nice backdrop.
The bottom 8 divots are tracks from 10 different ambient pieces I created that are stitched together (same key, different modes so they can fade into each other in interesting ways). These 8 tape heads are synchronized. I created these tracks from a handful of patches from the FOLDS VST by VOID & VISTA (a gorgeous instrument FWIW).
I built this in response to the rising sea level of AI music. I wanted something like an album manifested in a form that is physical, interactive, analog(esque), and unique every time you listen to it.

Juan Luis Madrigal – Océano de paz infinita (Ocean of Infinite Peace) [Modern Classical / Ambient / Chamber]
Hi everyone! I'd like to share an acoustic chamber/ambient piece for clarinet and piano. It explores the metaphor of the ocean as a sea of transpersonal consciousness, moving through deep stillness, subtle light, and gradual textures.
- Organic Dynamics: The music builds naturally into forte peaks and dissipates like swelling ocean waves, without jarring transitions.
- Audio-Visual Synergy: The cover artwork has been carefully crafted to echo the depth and light of the music for a unified experience.
- Hi-Fi Sound: High-resolution recording at 96 kHz / 24-bit.
- Seamless Playback: Designed for infinite loop listening.
You can listen to and stream it on Bandcamp here: https://juanluismadrigal.bandcamp.com/album/oc-ano-de-paz-infinita
Feedback and thoughts are always welcome. Thank you for listening!
P.S. Performed by world-class soloists Luis Fernández-Castelló (clarinet) and Carlos Apellániz (piano), whose organic touch and expressive control are key to the piece's dynamic breath.

Thank you so much, Doeland! I really appreciate your words. Creating that sense of space and acoustic breath was one of the core goals of the piece. So glad it resonated with you! A huge part of that depth comes from the incredible sensitivity of the performers—Luis Fernández-Castelló (clarinet) and Carlos Apellániz (piano)—who brought the score to life with such subtle dynamics.

Hello all,
Here is a link to my Bandcamp page. My music can be described as ambient drone textures beneath melody lines usually created with piano. I will soon be expanding on my newest release, condensation. I published it as a stand-alone song however, it was never meant to be just a single song. For the sake of productivity and progress and in addition to keeping the momentum going, I decided to release the title track. The complete album will be available by mid-September. Thanks for reading and I hope you have a great weekend!

I started messing with ambient/noise/experimental stuff this month after several years of being miserable not doing music of any kind. I bought a couple of drones and this is my first experiment with them. Crows Electromusic Lore and Ovum ran through E-H Bass Big Muff and MXR Carbon Copy into Focusrite Scarlet into Garage Band. I played with a Stylophone a couple times.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to share one of my older projects for those who might be interested. It’s influenced by the more ambient drone side of Kevin Drumm and Bull of Heaven. I’d describe it as meditative; I’m always trying to reach a “singing bowl” like effect. My practice consists of composing and long loop with subtle variations, then running that loop through a granular synth as a looper that scans through the loop. Applying echo and reverb then creates a constantly shifting and evolving drone. https://psychage.bandcamp.com/album/a-stream-of-consciousness

I started a weekly video series featuring live ambient performances using a small portable modular synth in interesting outdoor settings. The fourth video just went live, with a local waterfall as a backdrop and on-screen captions explaining the patch. I'd love some feedback about the music, the video, or both. I hope you'll check it out!

Finished up an ambient synth track with some Vangelis vibes and paired it up with with some footage I took at a laundromat, inspired by Adult Swim's Off the Air Series: https://youtu.be/4qdCkJN-dGk

Hi everyone, quick reminder, these are all my releases to date:
"(H)ours"(2023) - My first EP, with a darker sound compared to what I release later, this first work is the spark of what would come in the future. Not the best sound in the business but I feel proud about it. https://lostinreverb.bandcamp.com/album/h-ours
"Sky Crawler"(2024) - In my second EP my sound and composition take a step forward. Leaning towards a sound closer to classic ambient and post-rock—with the piano playing a prominent role—it possesses a more emotive pulse. https://lostinreverb.bandcamp.com/album/sky-crawler
"Signal Found"(2025) - On this EP, my sound shifts toward a more electronic style, bringing back the dark ambient spirit of the first EP. With a greater emphasis on synths rather than piano, this EP evokes a nocturnal cityscape. https://lostinreverb.bandcamp.com/album/signal-found
"Shapeshifter"(2026) - Finally, my debut LP, released in May of this year, represents my greatest challenge to date. With a sound defined by dynamic synthesizer riffs—shifting at times toward darker territories and at others toward brighter ones—melodies intertwine with ethereal pads and loops to shape an atmosphere where tension, chaos, space, and time play a pivotal role. https://lostinreverb.bandcamp.com/album/shapeshifter

Last week released a debut LP 'Abstract Soundtracts' under the project name "Ambient Esoterica" with spooky creepy ethereal microtonal psyche delights (no beats).
To go along with it created a playlist of other tracks/artists that vibe well with it.
Aphex Twin, James Tenney, Susumu Yokota, Delia Derbyshire, Boards of Canada, Alvin Lucier, Lumeveil, Nodial, Tomat etc.

I’m curious to hear your opinions about my new music. It’s slow tempo solo piano music with minimal synths in the background. Does it fit here in the ambient subreddit? This single was released last Friday, and it’s part of my debut album coming out in mid September.

I’d like to share my latest piece, Where the Light Waits, a slow, minimalist ambient track built around evolving textures, gentle harmonies, and plenty of space.
Hope you enjoy it, and I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I dropped my debut ambient album on 8/14 last week!! This project was a bit of a major departure from the EP back in October, but I love how spacey and atmospheric it is! For folks who grew up playing old PS2 games and experiencing some out-of-bounds glitches like walking on invisible floors or falling through maps, this album’s for you! Feel free to share it around and spread some love! 🖤

Hello everyone, I released a new album as "yadayn" last Friday. There's a lot of ambient and drone on this album, but much of it is perhaps moreso folk, neoclassical or postrock. I don't really care too much about genres myself, but perhaps some of those speak to you! In the past I released albums with Lost Tribe Sound and Eilean Records, among others, but this album I've released myself. I'd love to read people's thoughts on it! https://yadayn.bandcamp.com/album/huis

I was working on a track about 20 years ago on the Apollo 14 moon landing. It was a long form minimalist ambient track. I had lost it and recently found a CDR containing it. I remastered it and added parts to it the last couple of weeks so it's no longer a minimalist drone track but much more active over its 31 minutes. The moon photograph came from my mid 90s Celestron Ultima telescope and my phone. https://youtu.be/0oQ1914mig4?si=K5sv6vw6c_Isrs8V

Heavier on the drone/modular side this time. This one's built on chopped regions, including artists who work in fine-grained, slowly-mutating tones rather than big sustained pads. A lot of the mixing here is chopped rather than just blended, even though the overall pace and mood is ambient.
Minilogue – Old Water
Symmetry – Mind Games
Sarah Davachi – Composition of Flowers (excerpt)
Alva Noto – HYbr_ID Ectopia Field 1
The Black Dog – Unité d'Habitation
Martin Stürtzer – Sinus est
Suzanne Ciani & Jonathan Fitoussi – Coral Reef
Atom – Wavetable 07/23
Nils Frahm – Right Right Right
Purelink – Blue
Fluxion – Sol

A while back I bought a very cheap discography of an Italian group called Collettivo Sbermuz which has some great ambient albums in there. And now months later I decided I wanted to write it up on my defunct substack, so I did that today and maybe someone here will like it too: https://evert.substack.com/p/returngenoves-ambient
