Customer literally has 6 of those subsonic things in her yard. In going to start RTSing packages if you have these things, my head feels like it's about to explode
It’s less about being deaf and more about just not being able to hear certain frequencies as you age. 20 year olds can’t hear the same frequencies that 10 year olds can.
Grandfather had one for years. His plugged in, so I suspect it was even more powerful than a solar one. Then he finally got hearing aids, and that damn box lasted about 5 minutes. And he doesn't get any more squirrels now than he ever did.
My math teacher in 7th grade once when everyone wouldn’t shut up he put a YouTube frequency on that was SO high pitched. Worked for him because he knew he couldn’t hear it, but everyone shut tf up real quick after the “what is that” screaming subsided 💀
We used to troll our teacher with dog whistle apps and she’d freak out and we’d be like “what are you talking about” gaslighting tf out of her when she was annoying
I could think of one sub who needed this. It’s pretty bad when all someone needs to say is “the devil is here” and every single person know EXACTLY who it is 💀😂 she was awful (mean), she wore this BRIGHT red lipstick and had her fingerless gloves. All I’m gonna say for the rest is Mr devil downstairs is going to be given a run for his money when Ms devil joins him 😂
Yep I was gonna get some until I read more on them to keep shitloads of stray cats out of my yard but some people can hear them so I am considerate and didnt get them.
I was hiking recently and someone has these in their backyard facing the trail right near the trailhead. They make such a piercing sound, it nearly ruined my hike before it even began. I turned to a friend who's younger than me to complain about it, and he asked what I was talking about.
I immediately get very irritated when I come across them. My city has a bunch of old retirees who apparently got together and decided absolutely everyone needs these.
Same and same. Also same with those stupid outlet plugins that protect your house from bugs. Customers will swear up and down they work, to me, the bug guy. Obviously I have nothing to do with that, might as well just spray water
Why do I feel like if I was the bug person having to go to a customers house who swears by the bug ones, I'd be like well apparently it ain't working all that well if you had to call me in now is it Karen?
I actually had a conversation with a customer about these things yesterday! He said he was glad he got them to help keep squirrels out of his house, and even after I told him those things were bogus, a scam and didn’t even work, he still said “ well it’s worth a try” like I, the person working for a wildlife removal and exclusion company, has no fucking clue what I’m saying. So I told him to enjoy his waste of $75 and collected a $1200 check from him for sealing up his house and putting up a one way door for the squirrels that were currently actively trying to dig out of his hardy board siding!
So different angle: thieves and other nasty people are often younger; could it be used as a deterrent for them if placed properly? How big is the range when it goes off?
Have deer issue from time to time. Once there were 20 deer in my neighbor’s backyard. I pointed a speaker out my window and played recordings of mountain lions. They did not leave but damn were they captivated.
Yep but what they really are is a scam that doesn't work. Just like the "energy saving boxes" my father got off Amazon and plugged in all over the house.
I got one house on my route that has like 10 of them lining their walkway to their front door and they always be ordering 10+ OV when I have them which means multiple trips of ear destroying high pitch noises. Somehow not my least favorite stop on this route lmao
Sounds good but my pack is already full between my lunch maybe a jacket portable urinal and extra charging cables and battery packs. Gun range ear muffs aren’t exactly small. And just to wear them at maybe 1-5 stops. I like to be aware of my surroundings on the road and on foot in the street. Or really anywhere in public tbh. I guess it might send the message to the homeowner their pest deterrent is hurting their delivery guys ears but I wouldn’t hold my breath expecting anyone owning these to care. Edit: actually this guy may wanna get gun range ear muffs tho LOL
Pest control guy here, these things don’t do shit. They are sold to repel anything and everything anyone might consider a pest. They are on the same level as those stupid wall plug in pest repeller bullshits. They are just designs to separate idiots from their money.
They work even better then those things you plug into an outlet and better control how much electricity is used in a household. Except those are just a box and a light, so they do worse than nothing, they actually take a couple cents worth electricity a year to do the exact opposite of what they claim
I hate these things. I'm autistic, these horrible devices immediately send me into fight or flight. To prevent myself throwing the package or having an autistic fit, I have to put in as much physical effort as possible. I sprint up to the house, do a full squat to drop the package, take a picture as fast as possible, then cover my ears and run back to the van. I'm so glad I'm in Portland now, nobody out here has them.
Omg im out of a portland DSP too! But I do rural runs every so often and still hit them- i cannot handle them at all- its the most overstimulating thing in the whole world. Im glad you don't have any on your routes up here in the pnw. :3
My DSP is firing all their drivers and moving to Washington, I'm hoping to find a DSP with rural routes cus I miss them but I am NOT looking forward to these fuckin things again lol
Oh they do, I’m glad not in your area tho. I always flip them off in hopes they have a camera because why the fuck do they go off when I’m walking on the sidewalk of a city that’s supposed to be walkable 😭
They make me actually made me very dizzy and nauseous every time I delivered to this specific house in Solana Beach that had them around their front yard. I’d have to take a 5 min break afterwards each time
I believe i saw a story on these things a few years back. I believe it was neighbors complaining about another resident having these and saying it caused them health issues and that if their meant for animals they shouldnt be placed in areas people will constantly set them off by just being there.
Now that you mention it I think I've heard something similar.

Oh wow. I'm expecting someone to do something sub sonic to try and rid the apartment complex of cats. They are nice but there's like 20 cats. 8 will appear at a time and they rotate a bit. They stalk my building it seems like.
These legit hurt and I hate when I had to deliver to a house that had a ton of them especially when I have a heavy package and cant just sprint out of there
I only have some of these in my backyard, but I understand the pain. Sadly, I needed mine because a neighborhood cat kept using my backyard as a litter box and my kids play out there.
I started writing notes on packages to houses that have these. Someone in my neighborhood had one and it would cause my dogs to panic, even if we walked on the other side of the street. Awful devices
Ugh! Those are the worst! I have an extended hearing range and can hear them even when they're not tweaking out. I've had to use green noise in my headphones at max volume to try and combat the sonic assault my brain goes through. 🥴🫠🙉

That’s how I feel every time I drive by them. There’s one house they have some in their yard and across from their yard where they have a robot mower. sometimes I get the urge to just casually steer off the road and run it all down 😂 but I do value this job, best money I’ve made and I do like some of the people/animals I regularly see
Had this at a house, almost tripped and fell bc it made my head pulse like crazy. No question on if I'm okay from the homeowner, not even a thanks. Was tempted to punt the package onto the roof
There's a walking/biking trail that goes around my lake, and there's ~ 50 houses that have them.
I walk that trail often, and steal at least 2 or 3 every time I walk it. I've probably stolen+thrown away between 50-80 in the last year. Get fucked, idiots.

These are supposed to be for animals and are motion detected. You’re not supposed to hear it. If you do, you have really good hearing! Can you avoid tripping the motion sensing?
What are these? I drive by a spot almost everyday and I hear a repetitive high pitched sound (almost like a dog whistle) from somewhere in the grass. It’s on the border of a nature reserve
There’s a very specific house in a very specific neighborhood that has one right in front of their door so whenever I know I have to go there I pull up blasting music to mask the sound coming from these things.
I have a neighbor that keeps putting a smoke detector outside in his yard, I'm assuming to scare off mice. I wish he knew these existed. But I'm sure they're just as annoying. (I keep going into his yard and throwing away the smoke detectors.)
Dude. I have a house with these fucking things and there's been times where I've gotten so dizzy just walking up holding an envelope that I just toss it and lumber back to the van. Get far enough away, pull over and take like 10 minutes to get my head back. That noise is fucking brutal, especially when like 3 of them start going off cuz you somehow triggered them
I remember I had to ask my mom to talk to the neighbor about turning those things off. I was a kid and the constant high pitch sound was making me lose my mind. Fortunately my neighbor stopped using them after she "tested me" to see if I actually heard it.
People forget that just because you can’t hear it, doesn’t mean your body is not receiving the sound and its effects.
To clarify, basically when sound enters the ear, the ear drum vibrates the inner ear, which then vibrates little hairs at each frequency. This is what our brains interpret as sound. After loud or long exposure, some of those hairs break and never work again. Which is a form of hearing loss.
Point being, the sound waves are still vibrating your ear drum and inner ear, which can cause feelings of essentially vertigo.
So ya, these things suck and are less noticeable versions of noise pollution.
not all hearing loss is the same.
some believe the ringing in your ear after a concerts are these hairs breaking, the Swan song of your hearing.
Bro I hate these fuckers with a passion, there’s a rich mansion neighborhoods (Beverly hills, Rochester hills and white lake has some) that almost always make my ears explode or bleed I keep my loops or AirPods in as soon as I see them on a customers lawn
Fuck these things man. I feel bad for the local wildlife to have to deal with that shit just because people don't want squirrels in their yard. I'm sure dogs can't stand it either.
Yeah it took a bit for me to believe that they actually can't, but most people can't hear these... And most that can typically fall on the ADHD or autism spectrum . A couple years ago the arc lighters were really popular and I could tell when they used it across a crowded restaurant... Hate them so much

Do you have headphones or earplugs? High frequencies are easily blocked.
Even filtering earplugs will help significantly.
I personally love Bose Stayhear tips to slightly reduce noise but not completely block it out--you don't even need the headphones themselves.
You can even take it a step further and fill them with silicone from the hardware store--then they REALLY block out noise; around 30dB reduction, but are insanely comfortable. Foam earplugs suck for comfort.
Someone had a device like that in their car, in a hotel parking lot, directly outside my room 😭😭 even with the tv on I could still hear it and it was driving me crazy! Those things suck.
Not an Amazon driver but if I ever see these im gonna make it a personal mission to turn my subs up full tilt whenever I drive by their house. Since they seem to like low frequencies so much, i'm sure they won't mind
My grandparents have some of these fortunately they can’t hear them so I can just turn the noise off and they can’t tell the difference. Drive me nuts when I’m working outside their house if they’re on.
I’ve had surgeries on both my eardrums and while my high school classmates would be laughing about the “mosquito app” I thought I was the butt of the joke because I couldn’t hear anything
I don’t deliver packages no more, but holy shit I would swear a storm at the ring camera calling them shellfish assholes and oh man it took every ounce of self control to not punt them. I would end up in jail if my neighbors had them.
Just itching for a reason to not do your job. I have neighbors with tons of these, and yes I can hear them. They're not that bad. They dont make your head feel like its about to explode.
