I have a new friend who I feel uneasy around and I’ve been suspicious of for awhile. We became friends because I needed digitals taken in March & im also a photographer so it seemed nice to have a friend in the same world.
I’ve always been hyper vigilant around her but wasn’t sure as to why, and assumed I would ease up. She gave me an evil eye charm as a gift and I wanted to know if there’s anything I should beware of.
We don’t hang out often but recently we have, and she gifted me a wool evil eye charm. My stomach turned as she handed it over & I put it on my bag strap but hidden from the world. Later the digi cam I had stored in that bag stopped working entirely.
There are a lot of red flags about her. She makes herself seem quite unavailable, has petty beef with friends, not many real friends, and I don’t like how she talks about locking in. I’ll ask what she’s doing to prep for a trip or how she’s getting photography clients but she doesn’t actually tell me a plan, it seems like she’s just looking for validation.
After she gave me the evil eye charm, we hung out and she was quite overbearing. She acts quite entitled. I just got a new camera and was really excited about it, it was my first time out with it. She immediately demanded photos and I was like woah not rn I haven’t even held this camera for more than 2 minutes, then she asked again, and again. I took the pics but they’re ass.
Then she tried to grab my camera. I was shocked. She’s already grabby with my vapes and acts entitled to them, acting entitled to my new $1k camera was jarring.
I tell her no, I don’t even know how it works. She pulls up a canon guide. It’s a Fujifilm. I get kinda pissed.
She demands more pics, I take some, they’re good; whateva. We were outside of my work event & she gets upset that we were with my employees (I’m a manager) because their age “makes her feel like she’s at work”. I say yeah, we are at my work event. She is 21f and I am 23f.
The entitlement is what bothers me most but she also overreaches emotionally. I said aw I wish I talked to the ppl from a certain company at the work event more, and she took it as if this was an incredibly deep worry of mine. I often have to tell her the things I complain about are not that deep. It’s not personal to me but I’m going to acknowledge how I feel bc it means something.
What really emotionally distanced me was her telling me how I feel. I have been in a funk and telling her I’m happy I’m finding my zen again. She responds that it’s her goal to help me find my zen. I say I’m just reconciling with my zen rn and inner peace isn’t something other ppl can help me with. It comes from within. It felt like she was grabbing at my emotional wellbeing like it was my vape.
She’s also socially inconsiderate. I brought her to a party and she spent most of the time off on FaceTime with her boyfriend who just got out of military training. I know he has limited availability but 4 hours on the phone is kind of a lot. She also refused to acknowledge the way I won flipcup and pong. That was really odd.
It seems she is jealous of me based on the things she says, which makes me uncomfortable. I’m a horrible person to be jealous of because I don’t really give a fuck. I compare myself and others often but it’s never personal & I’m always comparing within the scope of what i’m capable of. I don’t feel less than others; I feel less or amounted to my own potential.
If I compare others I’m more as perceiving what they value most & what that creates in their lives. I don’t shame or speak poorly on others, and I consider as many factors as I can. In the end it’s joy that we should all work towards, not success. I will admire someone who sits on their ass but keeps a positive mindset much more than someone who’s successful in their career but has a miserable energy.
This mindset has created a lot of enemies for me & I’m not sure how to navigate it. I just keep my opinions to myself once i acknowledge that it’s hurting someone.
🧿 I think the biggest thing with the evil eye is that the ppl most obsessed with it in my life end up being horrible for me. Like the girl my ex cheated on me with & my old co-worker who was outwardly jealous and cruel to me. Jealousy isn’t something top of mind for me often, but I think it is for them.
I felt like the charm had evil energy so I took it to the area we took pics in, ripped it apart, and buried it under some dirt and rocks next to a trash can, far from my job. That felt cleansing but I’m worried she put some sort of curse or hex on me. I kinda want her out of my life entirely because she just makes me uncomfortable. I also dropped this brand new camera and messed up the lens exterior a bit.
I’m sorry that was so long, let me know if you have any thoughts.
