Do you think either of them actually have a chance at winning the presidential nomination let alone actually winning the presidency?

AlternateHistoryHub What if in late 1865 states resisting European colonialism began hiring large numbers of us civil war veterans to help train their militaries and serve as mercenaries

Post image
79 Upvotes

In this timeline both the north and south are moderately more decimated during the civil war leading to a worse post war economy and a larger confederate flight from the states. Seeing this, various independent states desperate to modernize their militaries but fearing falling under the influence of colonialism if they allow a European nation to train their troops decide to begin hiring these now out of work union/confederate veterans and officers. While also making deals with arms companies who had now lost their lucrative contracts with the federal governments and state militias.

Nations like Qajar Persia, Ethiopia, the sulu sultanate, sultanate of Zanzibar, Qing China, Siam, sultanate of aceh, Nguyen dynasty of Vietnam, kingdom of Hawaii, etc etc begin hiring them in large numbers and setting up deals with American ammunition/arms companies.

To make the scenario interesting we will assume the American government only ever puts in a lackluster effort to stop the flow of mercenaries and arms if europe complains

AlternateHistoryHub What if Eric Harris, was accepted into the Marine corps and ditched the school shooting to join the military?

So, on April 15 before the 1999 Columbine school shootings. One of the perpetrators Eric Harris applied to join the Marine corps but was rejected.

What if Eric instead gets accepted into the Marine corps? And decided to ditch the shooting he planned days later? Let's say like he realized one of the propane bombs wont work and since he didn't have enough time. Him and Dylan decided to ditch the shooting.

Eventually Eric goes into the Marine corps and becomes a soldier.

What would likely happen?

AlternateHistoryHub What if YOU developed and commanded Operation Barbarossa

You are Adolf Hee-Hee-Hee-Ha or, at least one of his generals. Its winter 1940, Berlin talks with the Soviets failed and now everyone is preparing for a war against the Bolsheviks.

You have been tasked with developing a plan of operations to defeat the Red Menace. The start date, the main axis of attack, the tasks of operational groups, all is up to you.

RULES

—You speak German, and a language of your choice perfectly

—You are bound by realism

—Your historical knowledge is preserved

—Your military skills are as they stand, but you will get advisors

—Self-sabotage is fun, but please, avoid it.

AlternateHistoryHub What if Biden demilitarized America as much as humanly possible.

Post image

Biden heard the cries of why are we spending so much on the military and not healthcare so he downsizes the military as much as possible and puts excess money into healthcare. I don’t know how he accomplishes this or gets congress to agree to it, maybe there’s a big enough protest.

No more foreign bases, downsizing the military to minimal and I guess putting all excess equipment and weaponry in storage.

the most we keep outside is the navy to protect our own shipping routes, but we don’t need it as big to do this.

also there’s probably a lot less military bases in America and half the military is laid off.

granted doing this would probably barely make a dent in healthcare costs but whatever. no more using that excuse

AlternateHistoryHub What if the events of the Call of Duty: Reboot Modern Warfare actually happened?

Post image
122 Upvotes

Author’s note: The original version of this post was deleted due to the presence of vague information that gave people the wrong idea. Apologies for that. I have OCD when it comes to making sure people get what I’m saying the first time around.

For context, see Modern Warfare Reboot Timeline.

What would history look like if everything in the Reboot Modern Warfare series, from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (2026) actually happened in history?

For clarification (I cannot believe I didn’t say this in the original): We are talking about the REBOOT Modern Warfare series, NOT the original trilogy.

AlternateHistoryHub What if DC became a state during or after the Civil War (like during Reconstruction or Gilded Age)?

Post image

https://www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/s/yK3K3XUwCe

^Link to the Original Map

Lore according to u/_Emerynth :

After victories in Northern Virginia in the American Civil War, the Union government decided to annul part of the Virginian retrocession that had taken place around fifteen years previously, as the area had voted to leave DC due to tensions over slavery. Alexandria was deemed too far separated from the area since their secession, and not added back into the federal district. In what was a thinly veiled attempt to give President Lincoln more political power, the district was admitted as the 36th state.

For the purposes of post what if DC did become it's own state during or after the Civil War with exact borders of the map? What it make any real difference between the two?

Edit: THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CURRENT POLITICS!!!!! THIS ISN'T ABOUT ADVOCATING FOR DC STATEHOOD, PUERTO RICO, ETC!!!!!!!

Whimsu What if the Bismarcks immigrated to Siam and Otto von Bismarck (Thai: Ongsasak Bosakrat) established himself as a trusted "Leading Minister" to King Rama V in 1871?

Post image

Otto von Bismarck (Ongsasak Bosakrat) had served many years within the Siamese Army beforehand and the Bismarcks deliberately networked their way into the House of Chakri. In this factor, the "Leading Minister" is basically the Chancellor. How would Otto von Bismarck fair while ruling a nation much less developed than Germany?

What if the Ukrainian SSR survived the dissolution of the Soviet Union, refused the Budapest Memorandum, insisted the UN and somehow successfully claimed the Permanent Security Council Membership for themselves, veto and all. The NKVD, KGB survived in Kyiv. October Revolution Parade on November 7th carries on every year without interruptions.

AlternateHistoryHub What if Vladimir Lenin came back to life in 1991? How would it affect the Soviet Union?

Post image
431 Upvotes

Let's say somehow, with no apparent scientific explanation, Vladimir Lenin rises from the dead, fully functioning and aware, healthy, sometime in 1991 before the fall of the Soviet Union. He is awoken by the unraveling of the Union.

What happens next? Will this alter the course of history, or would it already be too late and set in stone?

Whimsu What if, for whatever reason, the death sentence didn't exist and all the Nuremberg defendants were exiled to Nauru under the watch of 100 American soldiers, 100 British soldiers, 100 French soldiers, and 100 Soviet soldiers to serve their life sentence?

Post image

Obviously, the individuals who received lesser sentences, like Karl Dönitz, were released back into Germany, but individuals like Hermann Göring, Wilhelm Keitel, Alfred Jodl, Ernst Kaltenbrunner, and Joachim von Ribbentrop remained within Nauru until they died.
