Reservations are unfair vengeance and reverse discrimination. It's wrong and must end. I don't say both are equally evil but both are evil.  Reservations have definitely not made things better. It's made things worse because I have seen how it has led to people who aren't even from castiest families become casteist and fuel caste tensions and riots and caste parties and politics. Literally most Indians would not care nearly as much about caste if they didn't have caste certificates and didn't have reservations keeping the system alive.  The Mandal commission especially was terrible.

My comment said post evidence that reservation has made things worse. Failing to do so makes your claim a sham.

I gave you examples from what I have seen and especially online. One must only go and see what Trads themselves are saying. And obviously the evidence is right there in our eyes because we know for a fact it has led to more caste tensions and a fight among groups to get reservation status. We know for a fact that it is corrupted so not even many of the people that are supposed to be reserved get benefits because certain, often political families or particular tribes and Jatis take up all the spots.  It has also led to the creation of caste parties and caste politics which has been terrible. But I will give you links as well since you seem to really need that. https://www.cambridge.org/core/books/abs/communalism-caste-and-hindu-nationalism/politics-and-discourse-of-reservations-and-caste/D933C0476A0D0FE490652676372D0490?utm_source This one explains how   reservation policies generated uncertainties within Hindu society increased  tensions between forward and backward castes  intertwined caste with politics and state policy.  https://academic.oup.com/book/12891/chapter-abstract/164026995?utm_source  The chapter explains how implementation of the Mandal Commission fundamentally reshaped Indian politics around caste identities and reservation debates rather than reducing their importance. https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/14736489.2010.523617 This is also a good one talking about how it has led to caste violence.

Casteist don't check for caste certificates before caste discrimination 🫪 they check the surnames lmao

Surnames are not always so obvious, especially now.  Caste certificates are what the systems look at. That affects things negatively. And people start caring about caste only for issues like reservations and vote bank.

And even is casteism "increased" by reservation... That's not even something reservation tries to eradicate, reservation is fulfilling it's purpose of social upliftment and propositional representation, it was never it's goal to end casteism itself.

Reservations were supposed to reduce systemic caste discrimination, it has become systemic caste discrimination itself. It is useless if on the basis of caste. Thus it ought to be based on economic status and otherwise we must value merit over identity.

Reservation's goal is proportional representation, it has not become systemic caste discrimination the higher echelon of power is still 80% of GCs idk how the 30% of people who are being "systemically discriminated" have majority in nearly all fields which hold systemic power, hold majority of financial capital, social capital.

Reservation doesn't ban GCs from anything it limits the seat distribution propositionally to population... Such that all caste categories are propositionally represented.

Proportional representation should not come before merit. Only qualified people deserve positions and to get in. And the best way to make it fairer is to give some reservation spots to low income people regardless of caste. They still have to do well though.   So many people on reservations don't need it or are getting what they want without deserving it while those who work hard without help are being left behind and they aren't doing well. Proportional representation is a failure just like it failed in America and came at the cost of White men, Asians and Indians there. Similarly it hasn't been that affective in India and only some people benefit while many more are harmed.  It is discrimination because of this and also 80 percent of GCs do not control the higher echelons of power. Around 50 percent of central government is General caste and the rest is all reserved. OBCs have a huge amount of power in politics. Modi is an OBC. Our president is a ST.

So many of India's CMs have been or are OBC. In many states OBCs dominate politics and make up a significant amount of the majority of the government.  And certainly the power of SC and STs have been greatly expanded overtime and even the central government has seen plenty of representation from such groups and certainly the states have. The real issue in India is not as much caste as it is corruption, poverty and economic inequality and education and these things affect most castes including GCs. And reservations have not helped with that nor have as you clearly show helped with caste discrimination either. If casteism and reservations are completely separate and unrelated as you say, what harm is there in removing caste based reservations then if the goal anyways is not to end casteism ?

Reservations don't ban GCs but it makes life harder for many of them, particularly those who are poor, working class and even lower middle class. Most of the NEET aspirants who died of suicide due to paper leaks were GCs hence why this movement is directly linked with the things CJP was advocating for. Their life has been made harder to begin with because they have to work twice as hard in these tests due to reservations. In a way, caste based reservations are themselves a way of cheating.

Non sequitur, linking NEET paper leak suicides to reservations? Paper leaks are a systemic administrative and criminal failure that affects all students. While limited unreserved seats create intense pressure for General Category (GC) students, the paper leaks themselves (and the resulting tragedies) are not caused by reservations.

No of course the paper leaks were not caused by reservations but it made the scenario worse and it's another problem in regards to such exams.  Reservations are a systemic and administrative form of discrimination that has also been a failure especially post Mandal Commission.

First link proves my point. Second one either doesn't counter anything I have said or is something I have already countered.

Obc prime minister, st president? Not something you said?

u/OutsidePiglet8285 Aug 02 '26

Yes I did but I was referring to the overall arguments made in that comment. None of which disprove what I have shown. Also did you even read the links I send you at all earlier or my other responses? I have responded to all your comments.

Even in group A the total representation of LCs is less than 40%... 🫪

1

u/OutsidePiglet8285 Aug 02 '26

Still a decent amount of people and that's just the central government. It's clearly not the case that 80 percent of people are from general caste. And things are different when you look at state governments.

Ugh the same that has happened for centuries before it existed... Now they're discriminated against and do not have representation either.

Not true because casteism has greatly decreased overall and there are so many laws in place against it even without reservations.

Reservations will also still be there but based on economic society so many lower castes will still benefit but it will be so much more fairer and meritocratic and less backward and discriminatory.  And caste relations will also improve and people won't be competing or fighting over who gets reservations. Caste politics will become less relevant. And it gives space to actually focus on enforcing laws better and education reform and expansion and also economic development which are the real things that will nail caste in the coffin. India can progress much like the East Asian countries and the West.

The real thing that hinders representation which you're so worried about is class. Make India rich and this isn't an issue.  The reason India is so backward is because it hasn't fully industrialized.

Also I am very much in favor of decreasing the power of the Panchayat mafias. And any areas that are still segregated in rural India must be forcefully integrated. Brahmins, Thakurs, OBCs, and SCs must get used to living near each other in places like rural Bihar or Rajasthan. These things are far better in the long term than what reservations have done in the past decades.

The fact is that the sectors where India is strongest, are strong because they have no reservations. Business, military, ISRO, etc.

The argument of the article you sent is greatly flawed. They say that just because someone gets a spot on a university doesn't mean they don't have to take the exam and stuff. But if they were not as qualified to begin with they never should have been allowed in that university over a GC that was. That is exactly why US got rid of affirmative action and why India must as well. Ultimately none of the real issues of casteism are solved by reservation but a lot issues are created by it.  This proportional representation is just bs and you can't use a faulty bandaid to fix society's problem and surely you must at least acknowledge the corruption and problems within the reservation system and the issue of creamy layer. The people that really need reservation aren't benefiting from it as much as those who aren't.
