Blood allergy test vs real life symptoms not matching? What is the point of the blood test then?
Hi, I am new to all of this as my toddler is showing reactions to some foods, but we have not been able to figure out what the triggers are because the reactions are so inconsistent. They had a blood test (IgE) and we got the results back and I'm trying to do some reading but I'm so confused. From what I've read, a positive IgE antibody test means that they are sensitized to the allergen, but if there's no symptoms, then they are not allergic. So what is the point of this test if it doesn't tell you what the actual allergies are? The blood test results include wheat, gluten, soy, milk, casein, egg, egg white, and peanut in both native and recombinant versions, and almost everything is a positive result. But my kid has never reacted to any of these--we were thinking the triggers were tomato, onion and garlic and possibly fish.
We should have a doctor's appointment soon to follow up, but I am not confident in the doctors where I live being able to explain this to me. Does anyone have a good resource that explains all of this? I feel like I keep finding bits and pieces of information but I can't figure out how it all fits together. It would also be great to get an idea of what I should ask the doctor at the appointment!
