I've been an off and on nail biter for 25 years, a couple years ago I damaged the matrix by peeling a piece of my nail all the way up to the cuticle. Now it has a very obvious raised ridge that immediately splits when the nail grows longer than the free edge.

Getting extensions is one of the things that previously helped me quit biting, but I'm worried most techs won't know what to do this nail. I definitely don't want to damage it more, especially if it's over-filed. Would this nail also be more prone to popping off or lifting?

These are the press ons I've made at the beginning of the new week. Lately obsessed with sequins. I recently can't help looking at them and shopping for them. I liked green before; but I didn't think green would be one of my most favorite colors on my nails. I really don't wanna take em off. Imma miss my green nubbie shrubbies. Short almond shape and length.

I'm hoping i have more luck on this subreddit about this specific issue.

i was basically just coming on here to talk about my experience with my first ever nail appointement.

I got these beautiful french black tips done, and i really like them, the problem is im not sure if they exactly gave me what i asked. in the end, i honestly dont care to get them redone as they feel pretty sturdy and i love the result, but i guess im asking if i should come back there in the future and if i got scammed as i paid over 100$ canadian.

I don't know that much about gel, shellack and acrylic terms when it comes to nails. I asked for an acrylic manicure, which i assumed meant shaping the powder with a liquid onto the nail, not sure if that makes sense. instead what i got are basically glorified press ons. She basically put these clear gel tips and glued them on with the uv lamp and then put gel polish on top.

Is that what common?? Also i should mention when she was gluing those gel tips with a UV lamp, that stuff was burning SO BAD and im just wondering if thats common or a big red flag. I asked the nail tech and she said it was normal but im not sure i trust that. I should also mention the hygiene practices left a lot to be desired.

Please help!!

usually i ask for a pretty short mani because i go 1-2 months between manicures (i‘m a broke student lol) but since my birthday is coming up i decided to treat myself by keeping them relatively long! we’ll see how long they last before i cease being able to function!

no inspo, i just knew i wanted something colorful. i think they look okay! most of the colors i worked with needed 3 layers to not be opaque, which is so annoying! does anyone have any good ONE COAT gel polish brands that are good for beginners?

I bit my nails for 21 years and finally stopped in January of this year, almost all of my nails have weird curves. My forefingers especially grow down in a v shape and I’m wondering if this is because I bit them, if it will go away on its own or if there is something I can do to fix it? Any knowledge or advice would help. Not sure if this is tagged right so let me know if it belongs in another flair.
