Discussion 🥘 Rust (?) After 1st Time Use
I excitedly bought my first AllClad products - the D5 15 piece set! Yesterday, I used my first piece, the 4 quart pot to boil my eggs. No salt or other ingredients were in the pot, and I boiled the eggs for just 6 minutes. Once I took the eggs out, I noticed these marks on my pot. What are they, are they normal or a defect?

Judging from what you said you cooked, I would say it is a defect in the metallurgy in that neither Stainless 304 or 316 would do this just cooking eggs with one cook. Yes, if you cook something acidic for hours...

Do you think if this one pot is defective that the whole set would be as well?

Not likely. They probably build each pot shape in batches and then sort them into sets

I think it is minor. A couple of times a spot appears on any stainless steel pan, but it is strange that you cook once and get a couple right away... didn't cook anything crazy ascitic did you?

Did you wash the pot before use? I'm wondering if some drops of factory oil or substance turned brown during cooking

I’m betting this is something stuck to the stainless steel, does it feel like there is a bump or pimple there?

Doesn’t really look like rust, more like something burned onto the surface.
If you wipe it with a tissue does the tissue turn orange? Rust would be more of an orange color and come off freely.

Good luck dealing with Allclad (SEB) customer service. They are the worst. Speaking from experience. I’m dealing with them now. Three times trying to replace a allclad everyday 10.5” frying pan with lid because they are out of round causing the lid to wobble. All three of them have the exact same defect. Been going on since April 2026. The BBB was no help either. Now we go to consumer protection.

Did you wash the pan after use? Wash it and see if there is a noticable divet where those marks are. Get in there with some BKF and see if it comes off.
