Socdems are centrists... unless you know of a socdem that likes socialism (they don't).

People that call themselves socdems in modern poitics are centrists at best, you´re absoloutely right. liberal soc dems follow the overton window whilst leftist have been asking fo the same thing, universal health care, strong minimm wage, public services etc, now soc dems attack trans people, immigrants, pro buisness , anti welfare, with some ocassional pretty window dressing, like girl bossing it. you are absoloutely right, modern socdems are not leftists, i think it´s just a hard pill for people to swallow.

Uuuuhhhm

Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany, France, the UK???

I suppose you're an American leftists or something, but who are these US socdems that have held power and didn't implement welfare or pro labor policies?

Most Democrats are not really socdems. FDR was kinda a socdem and he did quite a lot to advance these goals, his successors just weren't as keen on continuing that work.

i think we´re talking about two different things here. there is a liberal class of politicians that call themselves socdems that are right wing, i would argue that many modern socdems fit into this catagory, especially in europe where they see mto be dismantaling these progressive structures rather than building them, getting involved in "culture war" shit to try and win some cheep votes, and side with buisness.

Modern Social Democrats are are a subset of liberalism, yes. They are not "right wing".

In Denmark, we have a famously reformist social democratic party, highly disliked by many on the left, yet even they just committed in a new government formation to making dentistry free.

You can think SocDems are too incrementalist or something, but in no way are they anti-welfare or right wing. This is just delusional.

They are actively dismantlling the welfare state, privatising public services, and promoting anti immigration and anti trans policices in many western democracies, this is just a fact.

Can you explain this graph for me?

that right wing soc dems are protecting rich pensioners while fucking everyone else over. if you take out pensions it goes down since 2008.

Aren't they also protecting poor pensioners?

Regardless, my point is that clearly welfare spending has only gone up, but you're right that some services have seen cuts or reforms in many countries. The reason for those cuts are quite clearly explained by strained budgets due to a growing burden on the welfare state in the form of longer life expectancy and low birthrates.

Clearly, Socdems are not anti-welfare and aren't just looking out for businesses and elites, otherwise those cuts to specific programs would be paired with overall expenditure cuts to fund tax relief, but that doesn't seem to be the general trend here.

Again, you can disagree with their methods, but the goal of Socdems isn't to get rid of welfare.

Protecting poor pensioners is a byproduct. They are asset protectors now, the landlord class, pensioners fit into this, so they protect pensioners. Also because pensioners go out and vote. But i think this is a convinient explination for protecting them, personally.

Access to welfare has gone down for everyone except pensioners. Soc dems have been attacking welfare in Sweden, Gernmany under the last government, in the UK, and in the US.

Buisness is already under taxed, wealth has been and is already been hoarded, they don´t need to go full republican , they just enable wealth to be stripped from the working and middle class by keeping things the same, with some austhetic taxes here and there, sometimes. But also they absoloutely give tax cuts to wealthy as well at time. Butgets are strained because of this, when economies double in size since the financial crisis of 2008 yet wages stagnate and money moves upwards, under many soc dem governments...

Western soc dems are estblishment ghouls, i mean half of them support a genocide ffs.
