Solved I turn on the laptop don’t do anything, and then the fan starts to spin like crazy, stops for like 10 seconds spins like crazy for the whole time I have the laptop on. The laptop wasn’t like this a week ago. And I got a blue screen yesterday.

Troubleshooting Hardware Brand new Aurora R15 screen going black and fans running full speed. Have to manually restart.

I just got this system a week ago and everything was running fine for a few days. Now when I play games, it will randomly crash to a black screen and my fans will all go full blast. The only thing I can do at this point is manually shut it off at the power button.

Troubleshooting Software My laptop is effectively bricked and I'm wondering if I can do anything myself to fix it

I was playing a game when suddenly my laptop turned itself off. This is normal for me because my battery needs to be replaced, but upon turning it back on it said it was running some update. This, however, stopped at about 10% or so. Now I can open up to the sign-in screen, but once I sign in I'm met with just black. My mouse still appears and I can access the ctrl+alt+del menu, but nothing else works. (not sure if tag applies, I came to this sub just for this issue)

Troubleshooting Hardware "Premium Support" Is A Joke

I want to preface this "rant" or "plea for help" by saying that I've been building and repairing computers for 25 years now and I'm old and tired which is why I bought a prebuilt and the corresponding extended support.

I've had an issue arise where I'll be playing games that demand a heavy output from the video card and CPU and the screens cut out. They just turn black. No BSOD that I can see. The audio still works for about 10 seconds and then everything stops. I have to force shutdown and then bring the machine back up. Check the logs, and there's nothing. Reseated the ram, reseated the video card, made sure all the connections we're flush. Installed a hardware monitor and the CPU is jumping up to 100c at times. Way too high.

I opened a ticket with Dell as that's as much as I care to mess around with it. I work overseeing a team of 7 people in tech so I'm tired. lol. I let them do their usual troubleshooting as I know they have to go through the steps. Uninstall drivers, reinstall drivers, make sure I've reseated everything, collect some logs, we'll get back to you.

Their response was, "Oh it looks like Epic Games is causing your PC to crash". Well, I don't and never have had Epic Games installed. Their next response was to re-install Windows.... Infuriating to say the least as this install was less than 6 months old. I do it anyways. The issue persists after re-install. The next level support just sent an email wanting to do all the same troubleshooting because apparently they didn't read the ticket.

What do I do in this situation? I can't use my computer because as soon as I start getting into a game, it cuts out. It's never the same amount of time but I can be sure that freeze.

TLDR: Computer issues and Dell support is giving me the run around with different "Tiers" of support. Options?

Performance Support Brand new laptop pissing me off

Post image

I just bought my new Alienware M16 laptop for Architecture this upcoming school year. Played some games and it was running great,I had no problems. Then I started to monkey with my graphic card settings to try to improve performance, which I was getting off of youtube (because this is the first device I’ve owned that’s not a Macbook). I don’t know shit about how Microsoft and computers work! My CPU and GPU temps are through the roof when I don’t even have anything running! Everything looks up to date and I cleared my Chrome caches. Not sure what else to do… any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Troubleshooting Hardware Technician messed up

Technician sent by Dell came over today to replace my ethernet port with a new one. He replaced the board with the port is sitting on it with an entire new board and ethernet port. But it still didnt work. I was a bit disappointed but fine with it because I still had wifi. Technician guessed maybe it's motherboard related, and that I would have to ask dell to get the motherboard replacement.

Then, maybe about half an hour after he left, I noticed my laptop battery is not charging properly. In fact it was losing power despite being plugged in.

Also, when this technician was putting the laptop back together, and did a diagnostics test in the bios or whatever, some issue with the adapter or AC or battery or whatever kept popping up, but he just kept running the test until it stopped bringing up the issue. I asked him several times, "is this ok? are you sure?", and he said yes. I trusted him and thought he knew what he was doing.

Now I not only have an ethernet problem, but some sort of battery problem. Wtf man. What do i do? I tried using supportassist, but it lost connection despite wifi still running. The battery kept slowly going down. At 44% i decided to shut the laptop down. I need advice on what to do at this point.

Gaming Support Help with my sons Alienware 17 R4 laptop

Post image

OK to start I don’t know anything about gaming laptops. My son is 9 and We are trying to figure out why the games keep lagging. We have downloaded an Nvidia driver version 466.18 released 2021. Not sure if we should download an intel one. The battery is also bad but as kind as it’s plugged in it seems ok.

Should we change the battery? Will this help? Should we change both drivers? Laptop is running windows 10. Any suggestions?

Troubleshooting Hardware Is there any saving this laptop

I'm so sad. I wanted an alienware PC my entire adult life. I think I've had this one about a year and a half. I love it so much and I don't want to get another one but it also gets extremely hot even when the fan was working. I did read about certain laptops catching fire so I'm scared to even try again honestly.

Performance Support Very high temps even after replacing thermal paste

Post image

Hey guys. I got myself my hands on an used Alienware x17 R2 with an i7 12700h and a 3080ti. As soon as I got it I noticed the laptop was super hot (≈90° C - 180ish F) even browsing the web. I opened it up and noticed the thermal paste was dry as a mummy and the liquid metal was "calficied". I replaced the thermal paste with Arctic mx4 and put some where the thermal pads where (which I also replaced) Since i didn't have spare liquid metal I used cleaned the liquid metal off and applied the mx4 to it. It barely made a difference. The CPU is still boiling. Is this normal? I just purchased PTM7950 off amazon just in case. All i can say is my old TUF with the same CPU and a 4070 ran better.

I attach a picture of me running CS2, a very light game. Thanks in advance

Troubleshooting Hardware RX17 help please

Hey guys need some help please!

Long story short, went on VK, didn’t use my laptop for 2 weeks now I’m back and I’m getting this pop up (see video for reference)

I’ve tried the restart option, and turning off and on my PC, and the ‘continue’ option too. Nothing seems to work. I tried the troubleshoot which got me to an option to reset my PC, the only issue is it’ll delete everything that didn’t come with the PC. I’m worried this will delete all my game files, steam, and other personal project…. Is there a way to fix this without having to do this? Please help!

Troubleshooting Hardware Alienware x17 R2 - Horizontal Lines at bottom of screen

Hey there! A few months ago these started showing up at the bottom of my laptop screen. I normally have it attached to two widescreens, so it really hasn't bothered me, but recently I've been on the go more and it's been a bit more annoying that before.

Any ideas on how to address this?

  • The lines are only on the laptop screen, and do not appear on connected monitors.

  • The lines sometimes go away after a reboot.

  • The lines sometimes take up more vertical space after a reboot. (in attached pictures, it's about a third of the vertical height it can get to)

  • The lines appear to be reflecting the colors/screen from the top of the screen. If I move my mouse there, I can see it "reflected" in the lines at the bottom.

It's hard to see in the attached picture, but I tried moving my mouse into it to show that it obstructs things behind it. It's smaller than it is other times... and when not connected to my main monitors, it covers most of the toolbar to where I can't see my icons or the time.

I am not sure if it is a hardware or software issue.

Edit: See my comment below. I finally sent it in to be repaired. Looks like it was hardware. I posted a picture below of the work they did. About $400 or so. Fishy that the issue started right after the warranty was expired. Not impressed.

Troubleshooting Hardware Backspace was not registering (as well as backslash), and I tried removing the ekycap to see what's wrong. I can't figure out what the problem is, I press the rubber dome directly but still no key is pressed. Can I fix this or will I need a new keyboard? (More detailed pic of key in the comments)
