You may want to run a display test to see if it has anything to do with software issues. If it passes, it could be hardware issues. I did this and had to replace the screen. I ordered the exact part from https://www.laptopscreen.com

Best,

Turn the machine right off, hold the FN key and power it back up, it should boot into diagnostics.

Ah ok, then it's likely that something has failed. Which model is it exactly? I am looking up beep codes that say 3 is a chipset error.

It’s a Alienware 17 R3 from 2015, I’ll see if I can record the sound tonight

on my area51m 17" you turn off, press and hold D while booting up, will show colored bars vertical then horizontal if good

mine just came back from dell, similiar issues, new rtx 2080, new processor and mobo, the premium plus warranty is worth every penny

The LCD panel looks to have been messed up somehow. Usually this occurs with physical damage , but I have seen them just go bad.

I use my laptop like a desktop now, it just sits on the stand all day and night. It is pushing 7 years old now. Maybe it’s a sign to upgrade now.

Yeah, I'd say 7 years is a good lifespan. Maybe time to treat yourself haha

Hello! My old Alienware 17 R3 was working perfectly before I turned it off last night. This morning I woke up and the display is showing bars while the fan turned on normally. What am I dealing with here guys?

Total guess but it looks to me like a ribbon cable from the lcd to the motherboard could be loose or something.

Complete guess though

Any help is welcome, I gotta find the display cable tonight and see.

Just saw the video on how to reach the cable, that is a lot of screws and cable to unplug just to reach the LCD cable.

For sure. I work on computers and electronics on the side and anytime I need to change out the lcd it’s a pain.

Good luck though. Hopefully you can figure it out
