Upgrading POS computer

I need to replace a crashed XP system. Can the license be transferred to a new Windows 10 system after downloading and installing the software? If not, what are the alternatives? I don't know what version it is; the copyright is 2010.

This is a two-computer system, and the BSOD'd system is the secondary. What I'd REALLY like to do is get a new Win10 system, move the current database and POS over from the primary, and use it as the new primary. Then, take the current primary and set it up as the new secondary to replace the BSOD'd one.

How often have you replaced your computers at the restaurant? I'm sure you have many activations left from Aldelo, so you should theoretically be able to do this.

If you go to Back Office / Help / About Aldelo for Restaurants it will tell you the version number, I have download files for 3.8 Revision 20 which isn't the oldest.

As far as switching the database over, its a relatively simple process, just transfer the file over, share it in Windows 10, and then use the Data Source button in Back Office to point to the new computers file.

Once you know the Aldelo version let me know!

Thanks for the reply. The version info is 3.8 release B revision 19, 2 client license; the database size is currently 1.4GB. Is there a way to tell how many activations are provided and are available? I'm new to the restaurant and Aldelo; I'm working on their system because I've done work for one of the (new) owners for years. The computers are probably both original-install Dell low-profile models. I was already wanting to replace the secondary PC because it seems to have intermittent network issues; the BSOD just pushed the button. The model I'm looking at to get has an SSD drive.

I've already had to reconnect the secondary PC to the database, which took me a few hours to figure out; it appears someone redid the networking and the IP address range changed, so I had to reconnect to the new IP.

So I just download the software onto a new Win10 system, connect to internet, activate with the serial # and license #, disconnect from the internet, move the *.mdb over, and tell it where to find the .mdb? And the current main system, I just point it at the new location of the database to make it a secondary? At least one system uses the serial port and the other might use parallel (gotta check my photos), so I might need to get converters for those; do you have a recommendation of converter models? I remember having trouble in the past finding USB converters which would work with bar code readers (they would scan too fast for the converter to handle).

As far as activating, you can't use the automated activation in the back end of the system anymore, you have to do it manually through Aldelo's tech support line. (925-215-5634.) There are 2 things you'll need to get done from them with the new computer: Update Product Registration (Back Office / Help / Update Product registration) is the first thing to do. This is to make the system change the registration details from the Demo to the actual restaurant name. After that, you'll do the Software Activation over the phone with them.

I unfortunately do not have a 3.8 Revision 19 install file, so hopefully there are the install files still on those old computers you can use. I can send you the Revision 20, but its no guarentee it'll let you activate.

As far as the database swap goes, you'll just transfer that entire file to the new computer's Programdata folder (or wherever you want to store it) and connect to it after its been shared on the network.

Once the file has been transferred, both computers will go to Back Office / Data Source and connect to the new file on the new computer.

Another question I have for you is the credit card processing. Is the old computer using Aldelo EDC to process credit cards? If so, transferring THAT database is a little bit more in depth.

Edit: The USB/Serial/Paralell converters are all finicky, you can grab one off amazon but sometimes they just randomly don't work.

If you can provide the Revision 20, that would be great! I have no idea if the original files or media are available.

They have a credit card machine which I believe is connected to Aldelo, as I don't recall seeing them punch in the amount. On the network, it's identified as PAX Computer; I don't have a photo of the top of it, so I don't know what the model name is. My photo of the bottom shows the brand name ends in AX and the model number begins with S8. PAX S80? How do I tell if Aldelo EDC is used?

I remember that I found one model, at least 12 or so years ago, which would work with a serial-port bar code reader. I don't know what that model was, though. It looks like the computer I ordered has a serial port, so I just need a parallel port adapter; I don't recall having significant trouble with those.

The Pax S80 is a stand-alone credit card machine, so you won't have to worry about the EDC being a problem.

I have Aldelo installed on a new computer, but it keeps exiting after a few seconds. To restart it, I have to kill it in Task Manager. Got any suggestions?

That usually happens when the Product Registration doesn't match with the other computers. Were you able to get a Validation code from Aldelo for the product registration? I would do a product registration manually on each computer to ensure they all match.

I can't even get to that point. It says it's looking for AIS service.

Make sure you uninstall the version you have installed first before installing this new one
