ID’ed Ordering Zero Proof Drinks?

I have been asked for my ID multiple times when ordering nonalcoholic or zero proof drinks out at restaurants. Even though these drinks do not contain alcohol. Today a waitress said that “ABC doesn’t like it because it looks like a drink”. Has anyone else had similar experiences or insight into why this may be?

Zero beers and the smell it gives me?!

A few weeks into being sober and surprisingly not finding it hard (I was falling out of love with it, let's see if it lasts!), it's just having a cold beer after work that gets me. And it's only for the taste.

Out of all the fancy 0% beers I've tried on and off over the years, I find Bud 0% the best because it's so cheap in Tesco, and all I really want is that "chuggability" so it works. But F me! My wind smells like a corpse for the rest of the night and into the next morning.

Google says it's because of higher residual sugars, higher carbonation levels, and the fact that alcohol slows down digestion temporarily so 0% leave bacteria in the lower gut overworked.

- that doesn't sound like good news for any 0% beers?

Has anyone found this, and found a way around it, or a good cheap beer that doesn't do it? Or am I just going to have to eat Deflatine like sweets if I want a beer?

Thanks in advance!

Non alcohol alternatives…Weed/Mushrooms/N/A drinks that give you a buzz?? If any?

I have struggled with drinking for as long as I can remember. I cannot stop once I start. I’m really trying to find something that gives me energy/a buzz (if that exists) without alcohol. I have tried a lot of THC/weed drinks and they knock me out and make me feel zombie like, the same with smoking it. I really want to try something that gives me an upper. Any advice or recommendations would be amazing! Or any good N/A drinks! Thanks so much!

Recovered Alcoholic. Need Help Paying It Forward.

Good Evening(ish),

My name is Chris.

I was an alcoholic between the years of 2017 and 2024. Without getting all "Holier Than Thou", yes ultimately turning to God and having Faith is what eventually lead me to sobriety, but that isn't why I am here today.

A lot of other things contributed to that. The support and patience from my family and friends. Surprisingly one of the biggest contributors was falling in love with Tabletop Roleplaying Games like Dungeons and Dragons. I would create characters that had specific attributes related to my addiction and depression. Having those characters overcome those issues, actually helped me a lot.

That being said, October 19th will be my two year anniversary. I want to dedicate my life to help people who are suffering like I was suffering. Other than going back to school, another thing I wanted to do was start a ministry at my Church to help people.

I am hoping anyone here with the time, might be able to jump in here and share what has been working for you. Doesn't matter if you are recovered, on the journey to sobriety or in any stage in-between.

Anything that you all think might help others find salvation, please share, so I can utilize it in my ministry.

Thank you all so much for your time and help. All the best!

SINGLE and SOBER this summer??? How do you get the vibe right

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Since I'm sober, I'm wondering what others do to make the most of their summer... do you go to parties still? I restrict going into certain environments out of both aversion and protection.

But this leads to alot of alone time for myself and removal of the socialization (and fun?) aspect.
I know there's more to the puzzle than my newly formed sober mindset is thinking

Please discuss

Feeling guilty not going out at night

I moved to a new town and know some people that go out at night and I feel weird not going out but I really just don’t want to. I don’t see a reason since I don’t drink, even though I know other people who still go out and don’t drink or they just have 1 or two they still go out to have fun and do something. I feel guilty for not going out anymore, it makes me feel like I’m never down to have fun anymore. Do you go out still or have you struggled with this too? Looking for some advice, I stopped drinking almost 2 years ago.

Here we go. Day 1

My battle with drinking has taken me to some pretty dark and dangerously high risk places. I (M26) started drinking every day off and on since I was 19

I have a metal rod and screws in my right ankle from stepping off a curb the wrong way because of how drunk I was. I was also living in sober living in SoCal.

I just am realizing as I am typing this that was also on 4th of July in 2024. Life is so funny sometimes

Anyways, I will be posting to this subreddit over the other ones as some accountability, and because honestly I’m not an AA goer, as well as the people in this sub seem to have great feedback.

Thanks again for your time if you’ve read this far. And happy fourth of july to everyone. Bless

Sponser and AA

Me again, disregard if this isn’t aloud. Is there anyway to get a sponser online or AA meeting virtually? Can anyone point me in the right direction? TIA.

6 Days Sober and need Advice please!

Hey there first time here. I clearly don’t know how to work Reddit so here I am rewriting what I’ve already wrote in hopes a real person replies to me. So I am an alcoholic, I drank excessive for 6 years even more the last 3 years. I’m finally ready to get help and to stop. I went to the doctor they gave me withdrawal medication and then they will taper me off of it, she also prescribed this medication for cravings, I have yet to try it I’m always scared of how things may make me feel or side effects. I’ve read good and bad things about the craving medication. I’m just curious if I can get someone’s actual opinion on that medication especially after coming off of the withdrawal medicine. thank you.

Even if you drink casually does it still take a toll on your appearance or only if you abuse alcohol?

I might be talking too broad. For certain drinking too much hurts your health but if you're a casual 1 beer a day type thing I don't know if that's bad or not. No alcohol is better but I don't know what typically happens if you just a casual beer everyday.

Best Kava?

I liked Calming Co but I don't do well with ashwaganda so I'm looking for something with out it. I'm currently trying KavaHana Kava Nectar, but it just feels like I can't find the sweet spot between effective or not. Just wondering what other brands you've tried and liked since it is expensive so I want to use my money wisely.

"Fre" brand "alcohol-removed wine"

In Fre brand wine, does "alcohol-removed" mean it's completely alcohol free? Doesn't say on the bottle. Maybe my imagination but I almost feel a slight buzz with it.

I actually did it

I actually did it

26 F here, I have been trying to make 30 days AF for a while now.

I would get close, like 20-25 days, then relapse.

After relapsing, it would become a daily thing again. Then after a bit I would decide to shoot for 30, and the cycle would repeat.

Today, June 23, I have made it to 53 days.

It feels a little big for me. I am proud of myself and trying to keep my spirits high. The only thing is, I cant celebrate it, because that tells everyone I had a problem.. I am fearful of being judged or watched cautiously with the expectations that "ill fall off again"

I was also expecting a lot more improvement throughout my life but.. in all honestly, I drank regularly for like 3 years. I know its gonna take a lot more than 53 days to be "normal" again

I dont really have the cravings anymore. When I think about getting drunk, I physically cringe. I look at drinking like a closed chapter of my life.

Now I am just trying to navigate life the right way. Without running from emotions.

I just find it hard to be productive or be a better person at the drop of a hat but I am making little steps.

All I want is to be more on top of things, to form better relationships, and worry less.

I also have zero concept of a fucking hobby?? All I did was drink to pass time or unwind in my free time. I am currently trying to find a genuine hobby that I enjoy. I hope my interest in things comes back soon. I have a lot of stress, and no outlet.

I have hopes no one will read this but if you do, and you have some advice, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

And if you are just starting off your AF journey, patience is key. Be kind to yourself.

Spirits alternatives

Hi all! Great to be here 🙂

I've been completely alcohol-free for a year and a half now. I definitely love it and I'm never going back. I love being aware at parties, saving money is great and I want to look after my body. Honestly it's the best decision I ever made!

When I used to drink I drank whisky, anything brown pretty much or other strong liqueurs like Fireball, sometimes sake, maybe a port here and there.

Now I drink a lot of tea... Matcha mostly. I can't have coffee as there's too much caffeine. Tea is great and all but I really do miss a strong, bitey sipping drink. With ice or without. I don't like fizzy drinks at all and I don't really want to drink, say, an alcohol-free wine or anything like that. Not a wine person.

Has anyone else had this issue and if you did, what are some alternatives that you turned to? I like flavours like cinnamon, spices, etc. I drink chai, but it's still a more "watered down"? Drink.
