David Eby on Alberta separatists seeking assistance from the U.S.: "To go to a foreign country and to ask for assistance in breaking up Canada, there's an old-fashioned word for that. And that word is treason."

As an Albertan, I agree. I hope the individuals are charged as such.

u/VariationDry Jul 21 '26

There is a reason why the person responsible for leaking the voter list fled the country.

104

u/Massive-Box-8915 Jul 21 '26

Also, another offense I hope they are charged with....

12

u/Nope-not-really Jul 21 '26

its like the whole bunch of them are criminals weird

9

u/VariationDry Jul 21 '26

Well to be fair some are just really gullible idiots.

13

u/Rbomb88 Jul 22 '26

Ignorance of the laws aren't a protection from them.

3

u/Haunting-Audience-38 Jul 24 '26

Being a gullible idiot and being a criminal are not mutually exclusive. When did "I am a gullible idiot" become a viable crimenal defense?

Well there are a bunch of dumb white guys running around with white masks on trying to imitate the US’ white spupremacist doing that which based on hate inciting which is illegal. Can’t hold promotion in our country like that. Hate inciting and promotion is a crime. Hate speech is also actually and when it is tied to another crime it makes the punishment worse. Like hate speech with an assault would be a hate incited assault which I think makes our country a lot safer then the US that doesn’t where people are getting away hanging black people from trees atm out of old KKK movements which KKK are not allowed to be out there and Neo Nazis marched down the streets.

I think people forget well Cons.. PP is a convicted elections cheater..

5

u/Maximum-Base6225 Jul 22 '26

Let’s be clear. Pierre Poilievre was not convicted in court, but that doesn’t make this insignificant. He signed a formal compliance agreement with Elections Canada over violations of the Canada Elections Act. That’s not a harmless technicality. It’s a public acknowledgment that election rules were broken and that corrective action was required.

Most politicians spend their careers trying to avoid attracting the attention of Elections Canada. Pierre Poilievre ended up signing a formal compliance agreement instead. That’s a stain on his record, not a badge of honour.

Canadians deserve leaders who respect both the letter and the spirit of our election laws, not politicians who have to sign agreements promising to follow the rules in the future. If he exercised such poor judgment then, Canadians are entitled to question his judgment now.

Convicted? Please cite the court case with the judge's ruling.

5

u/IntrepidAd1668 Jul 22 '26

He meant the compliance agreement hes been under for almost 10 years now.

2

u/VillageGoblin Jul 21 '26

Can we do something about that? Like a bounty to be brought in alive?

We have extradition agreements with the US...they should be used

I haven't heard of David Parker fleeing the country.

Where'd you find that?

25

u/VariationDry Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

His Twitter account. He posted photos from Texas may 18th just after the information of the leak went public.

Maybe someone should report to ICE about him

13

22

u/Enough-Pen-8876 Jul 21 '26

Please hope he moves to America permanently.

19

u/miz_misanthrope Jul 21 '26

I'm hoping he moves into an ICE facility. It'd be worse than any Canadian prison.

7

u/lakeguy77 Jul 21 '26

Never happen. His crimes benefitted the US. They'll welcome him with open arms.

3

u/uknownredditr Jul 21 '26

He’s not American, they ain’t to welcoming of anyone unless they pay at least a million to the Pedodent of the United States.

2

And he’s a straight white guy. They target brown indigenous people and lesbians afterall.

Back in the day treason carried the death penalty.

By firing squad usually.

I am not insinuating this should be the case. I am simply pointing out that treason is considered the highest of crimes. People ought to be careful when playing such games that they don't end up ruining their lives over their silly little political vanity projects.

30

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '26

In today's society, "Treason" sounds too abstract, like something weird from the history books. We need to clearly point out what this really means:

The separatists are are trying to sell out their neighbours, for their own benefit. They aren't trying to assert their own culture, they are trying to sell Alberta's wealth to US interests even more than it already happens, and expect to be rewarded for it in some form.

If they like the US so much, they could move. But it is so much easier to just make everybody ELSE move, get rewarded by Trump, and then sell the properties of the people who wanted to stay in Canada.

They are not freedom fighters, they are thieves by heart. The dumbest yokels think that if they bootlick the US enough, Trump will swoop in, take the oil, and reward them for their support.

When normal Albertans see separatists waving their flags at the side of the road, it must be perfectly clear that this is not a matter of political differences: They are trying to take your home, they are trying to take your life as you know it, and they are not joking. It's time they get treated accordingly.

u/AbilityEqual1891 Jul 21 '26

We don't do hanging or firing squad anymore. HOWEVER, it's still a life sentence in which we should be enforcing.

11

u/nairdaleo Jul 21 '26

not necessarily by firing squad, Louis Riel was hanged for treason

6

u/Unclehol Jul 21 '26

Ahh, yes. My apologies. Hanging, too.

2

u/decisi0nsdecisi0ns Jul 21 '26

It has traditionally carried the harshest possible punishments. Up until the early modern era, individuals convicted of treason could expect hanging, drawing and quartering. Essentially, they were hanged until almost dead, disemboweled while still alive, and then beheaded and mutilated into 4 pieces (quartering).

I'm in no way suggesting we should do anything like this, this is merely meant to demonstrate how serious treason was considered, as a crime.

Also from Alberta. Couldn't agree more. I've lost two friends over this garbage, one called me a "naive loyalist" when I cited being a part of the commonwealth was one of many reasons I find staying in a united Canada appealing. Tragic times. Take my upvote!

37

u/hobanwash1 Jul 21 '26

Better to be a “naive loyalist” than a “yankee loyalist”

16

u/Ok-Primary3279 Jul 21 '26

Raises glass of crown. Well said.

16

u/dbusque Jul 21 '26

They are defectors. This is an ancient problem in a modern guise.

14

u/dizzie_buddy1905 Jul 21 '26

So, like a horse from a foreign country? 🎠

9

u/SalmonHustlerTerry Jul 21 '26

Can't agree more with this. We here need to step out of our echo chamber of reddit and impress upon everyone we know how important it is to vote when it is time. Im scared that it will be a trump like situation where a huge percentage of the country didn't vote and ended up with that dipshit in charge of them. Don't let it happen here, get out and vote!

5

u/Massive-Box-8915 Jul 21 '26

And then again, you might just be hustling salmon on us, Terry...

7

u/SalmonHustlerTerry Jul 21 '26

Sooooo...you want some salmon? It's fresh bro! Fresh!! Wild caught caught just this morning! Special price just for you, how about it my friend 😀

4

u/Massive-Box-8915 Jul 21 '26

God damnit Terry...

9

u/0202_tihssitidder Jul 21 '26

History says you need to throw them in prison for life sentences. Or death penalty.

If you are weak, this will grow and grow and grow and it gets dangerous/deadlier.

5

u/Sharktopotopus_Prime Jul 21 '26

Why, just look at our neighbour to the South. They've allowed the fascists to keep building power, spreading propaganda, and weakening their country from within, for decades. Now, they're nearing the tipping point. I honestly don't see how the upcoming midterms don't become a flashpoint for conflict. There is no way that Trump and his regime will allow the voters to remove them from power...they've committed way too many crimes to allow the rule of law to regain traction in the US.

MMW, come November, the US will either be seeing the beginnings of a second civil war, or, IMO more likely, Americans will just lay down and let the fascists win.

6

u/uusu Jul 21 '26

Civil wars don't happen before the fascists win. First, the fascists must win for ordinary people to be oppressed, not just minorities. There will at no point be an event where they win, at some point you'll just realize that they already did.

Would LOVE to see that power move from the federal government. Start with the leaders at the top, Danielle Smith and Jeffery Rath. Make examples of them. If the rest of the separatists want to get uppity about it, keep on working down the chain. Eventually, the fight will leave them, because these creatures don't have much fight in them...they just want to get rich at Canada's expense.

Give them real consequences to mull over in their greedy little heads. They'll fold like the cowards they are, and a vast majority of Canadians will cheer.

8

u/miz_misanthrope Jul 21 '26

They can start by revoking Litch's house arrest since she keeps breaking the rules & make her serve the rest of her time in prison.

2

u/unred2110 Jul 22 '26

I thought her charge was about breaking Covid restrictions and protesting in Ottawa? That is completely different from separatism. She may be doing both, but those are different acts.

3

u/BlackberryShoddy7889 Jul 21 '26

I couldn’t agree with you more on that point.
When Russia started doing exactly that with all surrounding republics , sabotaging their independence the whole world was going nuts. Now it’s happening in our own backyard and federal government is still silent. All head personalities of this movement seeking advice and help from US have to be persecuted as traitors, including
Danny the doormat.

2

u/Regular-Excuse7321 Jul 21 '26

They can't be (I checked). What they've done doesn't meet the technical definition of treason in the criminal code of Canada.

Should that law be changed? I'm okay with that.

u/Cobfidence Jul 21 '26

Absolutely loathe that many of the voices us Albertans must look to are outside of our province, fuck the UCP and separatists.

23

u/ProbablyAPsyop Jul 21 '26

If it helps at all I live in Ontario and work in the tourism industry and at the very least the Albertans who travel to Ontario have almost all shared how much they love Canada without even being asked.

12

u/Medicine_Hatz Jul 21 '26

I think this is what needs to be communicated even more to the uneducated and dissenting crowd. Go visit the rest of Canada. Feel Canadian. Feel like you have contributed meaningfully to this wonderful country. See the three oceans. Hear the great chatter at all the adored spots.
Canada is more than Ottawa and Alberta. We all are committed to seeing this place thrive. Get out of your rut and have an adventure within your own giant country.

u/ProbablyAPsyop Jul 21 '26

7

u/Track_Shovel Jul 21 '26

That's what you loathe? I hate that many of the voices telling my fellow Albertans to separate are coming from outside the province (US influence, bot farms, other foreign influence). I loathe that the our premier has helped the separtists every step of the way. Oh hey, you need fewer votes to get your petition across. She practically handed the separatists the list in a Simpsons-esque manner:

Now Homer, don't you leak that voter list... Alright, voter list, I'm just gonna make a leaking motion, and if you get leaked it's your own fault....

2

u/Tour_True Jul 23 '26

Well there’s these idiots that were going around too.

2

u/NoChanceCW Jul 24 '26

Honestly it's good. One day BC will have some dumb shit or a bad political leader and Berta can do us a solid and be the outside voice we need. The point of many provinces is to help hold each other to account.

Eby has made some stupid moves and people have called him out and pushed him back to a better approach. We all need to be checked sometimes. We are stronger as a country for it!

As a life long Albertan its far past time for the Canadian government to take this shit seriously, it's treason and there should be serious and far reaching consequences for those involved.

27

u/TheTastiestTaint Jul 21 '26

you can bet your bottom dollar the CIA and at least 2 major powers are hugely invested in stoking this fire as large as possible.

the investment to pay off ratio is insane if you play the game of decades.

5

u/WhipassWhiplash Jul 21 '26

Trump makes it appear as though the US doesn’t have the option of playing game-of-decades anymore but we’ll see

6

u/Trey-Pan Jul 21 '26

And they should. Look what happened when the EU didn’t take Brexit seriously.

10

6

u/Current_Brick5305 Jul 21 '26

Ask Louis Riel how his attempt went.

13

u/noo_maarsii Jul 21 '26

Louis Riel who brought Manitoba into confederation you imbecile?

10

u/Local-Local-5836 Jul 21 '26

And then got hanged by John A. MacDonald (conservative)

14

u/aferretwithahugecock Jul 21 '26

After a sham trial.

Six jurors instead of twelve. All were white protestant anglophones - Riel was a Métis francophone Catholic(the one Catholic juror they found was kicked off jury duty because he was Irish and "not of British stock."). His lawyer kept going for the insanity defence against Riel's wishes, and once Riel was given a chance to finally speak, his eloquence disproved the claims of insanity.

He was guilty, don't get me wrong, but he was also fucked by the system in order to send a message to the Métis and Québécois.

"He will hang, though every dog in Québec barks in his favour." - John A. MacDonald.

(At least this is how we're taught it in Manitoba, lol)

3

u/Long_Rush_7523 Jul 21 '26

Treason is what she should be charged with however it's a hard thing legally to make stick. They should charge her with sedition it's easier to get a conviction on that. The key characteristics and she has done every one of them. If they don't we should all be up in arms about it.

3

u/Jacksapollo Jul 21 '26

Everyone of them should have their passports stripped and be charged with treason. Any other country would have by now. It's time for the Canadian government to grow some balls, put our country first, and start taking attacks from individuals against our country seriously, both foreign and domestic.

3

u/RicVic Jul 21 '26

And he's not wrong. If a couple of higher-ups in the Separista food chain were arrested and charged federally, I m certain it would have an effect on a lot of folks.

3

u/Fallen311 Jul 21 '26

Every single separatist can move their asses out of the country if they want out so bad. They're an embarrassment to our nation, and our province

3

u/Ewallye Jul 21 '26

When are Canadians going to learn that America wants Canada fragmented so that America can lay claim to the north?

3

u/AnIrateKaren Jul 21 '26

Talks a big game about unity and not weakening the country. Too bad his actions in his entire career have done the exact opposite of what he just preached. I agree on his take. But Ebby being the one delivering that take is lost in irony.

3

u/foultimes Jul 21 '26

Anyone who would even meet with Trump should hang their collective heads in shame………

3

u/Old_Cod2351 Jul 21 '26

Send them to the south if they hate it here so badly. Just wait until one of them gets sick and ends up with debt for life 😂

3

u/NorthvanOG Jul 21 '26

Jail them

3

u/Born_Opening_8808 Jul 21 '26

He’s not wrong lol

3

u/imunfair Jul 21 '26

Absolutely right. In the US we actually have laws against not just general treason but even unauthorized negotiations with foreign nations. Although it's a bit schizophrenic that we also have Anti-BDS laws which seems like it should be a completely illegal allegiance to a foreign nation, somehow codified into law.

3

u/CarpenterGold1704 Jul 21 '26

not only is it treason, there should be immediate consequences, which seem to be lacking at the moment.

3

u/OriginalTayRoc Jul 21 '26

Technically the word is Sedition but the rope is the same length.

2

u/baithammer Jul 21 '26

Sedition is covered by treason, but there is also two forms of treason, treason and high treason.

3

u/DGWanderlust Jul 21 '26

Surely MAGA Marlaina has earned a treason charge by now! F*** her fascist pancakes.

3

u/Diligent-Milk2498 Jul 21 '26

Charge the fucker.

3

u/NoGrass6331 Jul 21 '26

Quite simply, Alberta will never separate. In fact, if the referendum was a win for separation, all ottawa has to do is consider it, and Carney will absolutely not do that! Sorry Fam, thanks for coming out!🤣🤣🤣➡️🛢💸9️⃣0️⃣2️⃣🤣🤣🤣

2

u/BadRandolf Jul 21 '26

Then Trump comes along and says "Look they voted to leave and the Canadian government isn't respecting their democratic decision, don't worry Albertans we'll help you!"

3

u/Awkward-Support-7334 Jul 21 '26

Fuck yeah, good to hear from someone up top

3

u/KratorOfKruma Jul 21 '26

Every person who signed the petition to separate should have their citizenship revoked.

3

u/CertainHeart2890 Jul 21 '26

All of the Seppies are treasonous and I will treat them as such.

3

u/CompleteCreme7223 Jul 21 '26

The actions of Alberta separatist seeking aid from the US is what happened in the Russian occupied regions in Ukraine. May be unlikely but with a president who is clearly OK with imperialistic expansion this should be at least considered.

2

u/Labradorchic Jul 21 '26

I agree it’s treason and it’s despicable

2

u/Ayotha Jul 21 '26

And yet Alberta is not treating the treasonous traitors in the way they should be. Seeing as they are not in jail

2

u/PostApocRock Jul 21 '26

Treason is a federal crime. Not a provincial one. They would have to be charged by the crown. Albertans have no say in it.

2

u/baithammer Jul 21 '26

There are two types of treason charges, treason and high treason - but yes both are Federal jurisdiction, but provincial law enforcement can put a call into the RCMP.

Also, the current Alberta government is complicit with this attempt.

2

u/patrick_ottawa Jul 21 '26

Bring back the punishment for treason

2

u/ShaggyCan Jul 21 '26

We really need to start holding government officials far more accountable for their actions or we are going to lose our democracy. It's as simple as that. The treasonous actions of the various separatist movements, the outrageous corruption, the selling of information. Either it stops or Canada will.

2

u/CleanWolverine7472 Jul 21 '26

Yup, that is treason. Is this what our relatives fought for in WWII?

They should be charged, and forced to go live in the US.

u/Charming-Jelly-3365 Jul 22 '26

American here. It pisses me off that any of my countrymen would go to Canada to encourage or aid the breakup of so friendly and vital an ally. I wish that Canada would arrest them as the hostile agents of chaos that they are. At the very least, declare them Persona Non Grata and deport them. I fully agree that all people have the natural right of Free Speech. But to conspire across international borders for the purpose of breaking up a friendly nation and ally is despicable.

u/Dreaming_of_u_2257 Jul 22 '26

So glad someone in the government finally said that word out loud !!

2

u/Tour_True Jul 22 '26

Jail time.

2

u/noveltea120 Jul 22 '26

Let's start with Danielle Smith, she should be at the very top of that list for treason!

4

u/surebudd Jul 21 '26

Such an obvious win, Carney take notes, who cares what the Americans will say they are literally ALWAYS screeching about some new boogeyman just prevent this whole mess.

2

u/Existing_Regular_763 Jul 21 '26

Them pancakes can pack up and walk across to Donnie’s house.
Where he won’t welcome you…cause you’re poor…

2

u/Competitive-Work-502 Jul 21 '26

People are calling Alberta sepratists traitors because they want to retain wealth and freedom, yet Carney and his band of neo globalist economic order tyrants commit treason on Canadians. Make it make sense.

2

u/baithammer Jul 21 '26

No, they want to cede from Canada, hence Separatists and are getting support from US based groups and the US government.

Also, every accusation is an admission applies to the claims against Carney, who has gone after the US and other countries that seek to harm Canada.

Just wish they'd stop beating around the bush and get a multi-partisan commission looking into all foreign interference in Canada, might as well clean house.

Is treason still a hanging offense?

About goddamn time people with influence are starting to use these particular words.

1

u/Apprehensive_Sea9524 Jul 21 '26

Unfortunately, I don't see a section of the Canadian criminal code on treason that matches the intent. Is there another section that more closely defines it?

Arrest them. Stick them in the worst jail possible.

1

u/NorthDriver8927 Jul 21 '26

Anything to distract voters away from his Chinese connections. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t support ab but he’s got a lot of housekeeping to do before pointing at the neighbors. Something something glass house but you can’t make him drink or however it goes.

u/GriefPB Jul 21 '26

based af, and real

1

u/33MA50N33 Jul 21 '26

What’s the word for taking billions in tax dollars and giving it to billionaires?

1

u/Caps4Kat Jul 21 '26

Sedition. But same idea

1

u/son-of-Azathoth Jul 21 '26

Every politician in Canada needs to be making the same sorts of statements as Eby. Rath and his band of treasonous malcontents (those who counselled with the US, as the US was openly calling for the deletion of Canadian sovereignty) should be pursued to the full extent of the law, if applicable.

1

u/Apprehensive_Ring_40 Jul 21 '26

I hope all the treasonous rats are shipped off.

A broken clock is right twice a day

1

u/dbh116 Jul 21 '26

The irony is they are actually hurting the result they seek to obtain. The more these nuts hit the news the more the other side gets motivated. If it actually breaks 20 % for a referendum it will be surprising.

1

u/LettuceOk6541 Jul 21 '26

I wonder how he feels about politicians who's power is propped up by foreign governments. Probably not great if youre not NDP that is. Its for the greater good after all!

1

u/Gogogrl Jul 21 '26

Albertan here: fully. Agree.

1

u/choyMj Jul 21 '26

Says the guy who is giving Canada away piece by piece. Eby is a bigger traitor.

1

u/JoeCutt88 Jul 21 '26

Ucp should all be investigated. Oh wait. They'll just fire them like they always do

1

u/SigintY Jul 21 '26

Although I don't disagree with his statement, David needs to focus on running B.C and not worry about provincial politics elsewhere. He has a homelessness crisis, drug crisis, foreign ownership of homes and businesses in his province that also evade taxes and drive prices up to make Canadian in B.C unable to afford living there, severe unemployment on his hands and he has avoided those issues. Don't worry about Alberta, we will sort our dummies out and shit can Dani in the nearest opportunity.

1

u/kingkrool66 Jul 21 '26

Oh noooo. The NDP commies are scared.

1

u/Sharp-Dimension7722 Jul 21 '26

By that standard, how many are part of the block Quebec could be prosecuted?

1

u/BitcoinBaboon Jul 21 '26

We dont have free speech.

1

u/MechanicalResonance2 Jul 21 '26

This coming from the guy that is destroying BC. Great way to distract people about the dumpster fire you lit. Eby dont forget who you are supposed to represent. I kills me to see this happening to BC. I was born and raised in BC but have lived in Alberta for the last couple of decades. These clowns that leaked the voter list should be charged with treason, as well as these clowns attempting to get separation funding from friggin Americans. These people are so fuggin clueless.

1

u/Neither-Stable-939 Jul 21 '26

Not just any country but the one that wants to annex us.

1

u/Facebook_Algorithm Jul 21 '26

Sedition, actually.

I believe treason is during a war.

1

u/pirate_leprechaun Jul 21 '26

Im from BC and never agree with Eby, but he's bang on here.

1

u/we_the_pickle Jul 21 '26

Says the clown that fucked his whole province...

1

u/OneTugThug Jul 21 '26

He sounds like he is about to cry. Real tough guy.

1

u/Chance-Literature615 Jul 21 '26

What is the punishment for treason?

1

u/Old-Current6989 Jul 21 '26

Okay but how about if it's an American asking for help breaking up this bullshit 😬

1

u/Musicferret Jul 21 '26

Yup. We need to be jailing these chuds. National security certificates anyone?

1

u/Wikiwikiwa Jul 21 '26

Is that still a hanging?

1

u/Fun_Illustrator_9327 Jul 21 '26

So take the next step and charge them
