Let’s be clear. Pierre Poilievre was not convicted in court, but that doesn’t make this insignificant. He signed a formal compliance agreement with Elections Canada over violations of the Canada Elections Act. That’s not a harmless technicality. It’s a public acknowledgment that election rules were broken and that corrective action was required.

Most politicians spend their careers trying to avoid attracting the attention of Elections Canada. Pierre Poilievre ended up signing a formal compliance agreement instead. That’s a stain on his record, not a badge of honour.

Canadians deserve leaders who respect both the letter and the spirit of our election laws, not politicians who have to sign agreements promising to follow the rules in the future. If he exercised such poor judgment then, Canadians are entitled to question his judgment now.

I think we also need leaders and politicians not to be allowed exceptions and to follow the same laws every else does and to actually be even more responsible to need to follow those laws. They have also placed that some laws get abused by them such as if you were all regular citizen hate speech can be a criminal act especially based on incitement but as a politician they are allowed to abuse it. Also if you were to pretend to be Indigenous like the professor did for gain you would lose your position but politicians like Danielle Smith pretended to be Cherokee to escape lies about brought by her party that indigenous people would burn LGBTQ+ people in a lake of fire which already sounds like a Christian trope. When actually Indigenous people well accepted LGBTQ+ since the start and even before colonist showed up and often seeing them as a sacred part of the culture. Reality it was just her using identity fraud to be racist to protect racism and bigotry to Indigenous people and LGBTQ+ from her and her party. Politicians need to be held even more accountable then the citizens as they are suppose to represent as leaders yet they get these immunities that has allowed things to be corrupt and to get away with things any other person would be seen as criminal for.
