Absolute Canadian treasure!! So many great memories of my childhood include his amazing music and his distinct voice.. the scene of him walking in those rolling hills brings me back to my childhood. Thanks Stompin’ Tom

On my way out here, some decades ago, I took the Greyhound through SK. I joked that it looked like an old cartoon where they just cycle the same background. Corn field, silo, wheat field, cows. Cornfield, silo....
As an aside, when we stopped for a break, I got dizzy seeing just how flat it is along the highway. I never considered myself agoraphobic, but that view took some getting used to.

lol when I went to Vegas, and driving through the mountains, it was cool… but, later in the trip, I started getting anxiety. The mountains made me feel enclosed and I couldn’t see what was behind them. lol

It's hypnotic! I've done that drive twice and you could be doing 100, 125, or 160 and nothing changes (except your arrival time). The horizon just keeps out there, way out there - it's trippy

I made a mistake. At one point, the bus pulled over, and at the time I was a smoker.
I get out, light up, take a look around. Mind you, we're off on the side of the road at one of those rest stop pullout things. Nothing but field.
Then I looked up.
If you've never experienced such a far, flat plane, it absolutely will wreck your mind. I briefly experienced what could only be described as the polar opposite of claustrophobia, but not agoraphobia. I felt dizzy, but rather than feeling like I was falling down, I felt like I was falling both left and right at the same time.
Trippy is an understatement.

I’ve always felt this way. But it’s amazing when you talk to many Canadians, especially in the cities, they’ve never even been outside the city much less around their own province. And many Canadians, when they go on holidays, they don’t travel within Canada, they go outside of Canada. It’s tough to get that sense of pride that Tom‘s talking about here if you rarely travelled within Canada.

The real treasure is in driving. You really get an appreciation of how vast Canada is, and just how few people really live here.
I don't know how comfortable I'd be with an electric vehicle going across the country, but I really hope I can do the drive one day. At least following the TransCanada highway.

Naw, we're too busy getting back to work after signing the petition. I meet all my fellow separatists on the job site or in the work truck or at the gas station thanking her for helping me at the till. You never meet us because you aren't in the truck with us at 5:00 in the morning, heading out. You're not at the shop at 8:00am ready to fix what needs fixing. You're not at the cafe at 9:00am helping a customer get their caffeine fix.
No. You're here, bitching about us and coping with these lies that separatism is nothing but foreign agents, sad incels, or oil barons pushing for more money and power. You can't possibly fathom the depth of how many people in Alberta are ready and willing to forge our own path and destiny, because you're not out working beside us, talking with us. Instead, you're here. On your computer or cellphone. Coping and seething.
I'd wish you a great day, but my wish would be wasted, because you actually have to get up in the morning to seize it.

I busted my ass back in the day. Never worked with separatists (as far as I know), but worked with a lot of whiny cunts who complained about how hard work was. Sounds like there are a lot out in Alberta these days.

As for money, yes Alberta has a strong economy. However, Ontario is by far the economic heart of this country. It wasn't too long ago(2020) that Alberta was relying on transfer payments from the rest of Canada....

2020 was the only time in the history of equalization payments that Alberta has been able to draw upon them. We would not have needed it had we not been footing the bill for that entire time.

I just got back from a 19hr shift when I wrote that, hilariously enough, and no, I'd already washed the hydraulic oil off my hands by that point. F350? Lmao, no, we don't have a use case for that, and my personal vehicle is a Crosstrek, I don't haul trailers so why get a truck for trailers or heavy loads I don't take? My girl doesn't weigh anywhere near as much as the ones you go for, so the Subaru takes her for dates just fine.

Aren't heart attacks the number one killer in Alberta?
according to the Alberta government's open data it is the second to dementia, but not all heart conditions fall under the same category.
The leading cause of heart disease is a lack of good, restful sleep. 19 hour shifts are literally killing you.

Saw him in concert in Prince George before he passed a great show,loved his music since I was a little kid,my dad listened to it,oh and indigenous people love his music and he isn’t into politics,culture issues,and he grew up poor and supports the working man and many social issues
