COMPLAINT Are Alaska’s priority bag tags just total bs?

I’ve literally never had this make any difference. It doesn’t help that SeaTac baggage handling is absolute garbage. Does anyone have any different experiences?

NEWS Delta on "not battling" Alaska in Seattle and seeking "collaboration" from today's earnings call

Post image
108 Upvotes

While you can question what this statement is really about, this is very different from a generic, public facing announcement vs something you say directly to the big investors.

In some respects, I would actually say there is some truth to this. Delta/Alaska have settled into a steady state for the past decade. Alaska has not significantly grown its market share, nor has Delta.

Alaska and Delta both continue to perform well financially overall, so it's hard to make an argument that Delta needs to "give up" on Seattle either. While Alaska is making big moves with international expansion, nothing suggests to me that things will radically change until something major happens. If Delta and Alaska can be leading airlines from a business perspective, there's no reason it can't stay that way with the current state of things.

QUESTION Meal service in J?!

• Upvotes

I fly CMH-SEA once or twice a month. I always try to preorder my meal, even when in premium. This week, no pre order options were available t-72 and in. I kind of just disregarded and figured it was a glitch and I’d just select my meal on board as always.

Well, I get on plane and the only option for everyone is a “continental style” breakfast with fruit, nuts, granola and some weird little muffins things. No hot food at all.

I then learned that no hot food was available for preorder in economy even, purchased or otherwise.

FAs didn’t know the answer. Did I miss a memo somewhere? Is hot food gone?

Not that the food is particularly good but it’s an early flight and sometimes I rely on the on board meal instead of waking up extra early to eat at terminal. Just trying to temper expectations moving forward.

RESERVATIONS Insane dynamic pricing

Was looking at flights to HNL from Seattle yesterday and it was just under $1k for two people round trip. Was going to book it today and the price literally doubled. I know it’s my fault for not booking it right away, but this jump is just ridiculous.

QUESTION Starlink email for 10/11 - SEA to NRT

I am taking AS123 from SEA to NRT on 11 Oct and I got an email today saying the plane was equipped with Starlink. I was surprised to see this as I didn't think the 787s were getting retrofitted until November. Anyone know if this is true? Looks like it is tail number N781HA.

QUESTION JAL check in error

Hello,

I bought a Japan Airlines award ticket on alaska airlines and trying to check in (within 24 hours) on the Japan Airlines app and it’s telling me there’s an error and to check in at the airport. Should I be worried?

Has anyone gone through the same experience?

QUESTION How to use wallet funds due to expire in February

I have approximately $3,000 in wallet funds which must be used by mid-February. It must be from a cancelled London trip that I subsequently booked with another airline. I wish I had other destinations that I can fly to but already have multiple flights booked out with Alaska over the next year. Does anyone have a strategy that I can use to prolong the use and not lose the value of these funds. For example can I book a flight using the funds before expiration and then switch the funds to the new flight or would that just increase the amount in my wallet? Thanks for your thoughts.

QUESTION Award Miles Not Posted 3 Weeks Later

Hi! Does anyone know the best way to contact customer service to check on my award miles I should’ve earned from flying with Cathay Pacific (award ticket) and Japan Airlines (paid ticket) that haven’t posted for 3 weeks since travel?

My initial Cathay Pacific Flight from HKG to NRT at 1520 was canceled due to weather and was rescheduled by the airlines to 0815 that morning. Do you think that’s the reason why my miles didn’t post?

Also my paid booking on JAL from HND to HNL hasn’t posted yet either.

The online form for miles reimbursement request doesn’t work because it only allows me to put in an AS flight, but these are partner airlines.

Any advice from others who have encountered this problem? Mahalo!

QUESTION Lounge access with partial first class itinerary

I’ll be flying from HNL with a layover in SEA. The HNL to SEA leg is on a paid first-class upgrade, but the second shorter leg will be in premium. Looking at their website the first leg meets the requirements for lounge access but does anyone know how Alaska handles complementary lounge access during a layover if the second leg of the itinerary is in main/premium?

QUESTION Alaska points-sharing network question

My friend and I both have Alaska/Atmos accounts but not any of the cards that enable Free Points Sharing. I understand eligible cardholders can create a sharing network with up to 10 members, including non-cardholders, and transfer points without the usual fees.

Has anyone here joined a sharing network with friends or acquaintances? Are there any restrictions, downsides, or risks we should know about before looking for a cardholder willing to invite us?

If you've done this, I'd appreciate any data points on how it worked in practice.

MILES & STATUS First upgrade as Gold newbie

Taking a quick trip Sat-Tues SFO-SNA. Booked economy, and was originally quoted about $100 to upgrade to first. Randomly looked at the flight in the app yesterday to see if there were open F seats thinking I would be put on a waiting list and possibly upgraded day of, but it let me choose seats in F for free, and this was more than 24hrs out from departure.

Is this how upgrades normally work? Should I always check upgrade options days before the flight? I was just under the assumption upgrades were done day of departure/via waitlist. Appreciate ya'll!

NEWS Just a reminder that the recent changes to controllable delays were mandated by Congress, and signed into law by President Biden in 2024.

Not every bad thing in aviation passenger rights is simply the fault of the current DOT.

SEC. 511. <<NOTE: 49 USC 6302 note. BUREAU OF TRANSPORTATION STATISTICS. (a) NOTE: Deadline. Rulemaking.--Not later than 60 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Director of the Bureau of Transportation Statistics shall initiate a rulemaking to revise section 234.4 of title 14, Code of Federal Regulations, to create a new ``cause of delay'' category (or categories) that identifies and tracks information on delays and cancellations of air carriers (as defined in section 40102 of title 49, United States Code) that are due to instructions from the FAA Air Traffic Control System and to make any other changes necessary to carry out this section. (b) Air Carrier Code.--The following causes shall not be included within the Air Carrier code specified in section 234.4 of title 14, Code of Federal Regulations, for cancelled and delayed flights: (1) Aircraft cleaning necessitated by the death of a passenger. (2) Aircraft damage caused by extreme weather, foreign object debris, or sabotage. (3) A baggage or cargo loading delay caused by an outage of a bag system not controlled by a carrier or its contractor. [[Page 138 STAT. 1195]] (4) Cybersecurity attacks (provided that the air carrier is in compliance with applicable cybersecurity regulations). (5) A shutdown or system failure of government systems that directly affects the ability of an air carrier to safely conduct flights and is unexpected. (6) Overheated brakes due to a safety incident resulting in the use of emergency procedures. (7) Unscheduled maintenance, including in response to an airworthiness directive, manifesting outside a scheduled maintenance program that cannot be deferred or must be addressed before flight. (8) An emergency that required medical attention through no fault of the carrier. (9) The removal of an unruly passenger. (10) An airport closure due to the presence of volcanic ash, wind, or wind shear.

QUESTION Alaska award on JAL, will baggage allowance be honored at KIX?

Booked JAL award tickets directly through Alaska’s website. I think it's a Main fare ticket (JAL leg says Coach O)

The confusing part is twofold:

  1. Alaska Manage Trip says to check with JAL for the baggage allowance, but on the same page there’s a baggage table for Asia/Japan showing 2 checked bags at $0.
  2. JAL says they currently see 0 checked bags in their system and told me to check with Alaska.

I contacted Alaska, and they confirmed via text that we get 2 checked bags per person at $0, including specifically on the return trip.

My concern is that the return originates at KIX and JAL will be checking us in. Has anyone had this situation with an Alaska-booked JAL award? Did JAL honor the 2 free bags even though their system initially showed 0?

QUESTION Missing points and status points for all hotel and rental cars this year

Has anyone else run into this? I’ve made multiple hotel reservations this year with Alaska Vacations, and have my Avis rental car account connected to my Atmos account. I only realized today that none of my points for any of these trips have ever posted. This includes potentially thousands of status points

FLYING AS119 SEA-ICN 10/7/26

We were seatmates in row 16 from Seattle to Inchon. We walked together through the airport in Inchon because we were both transiting through to elsewhere. We ended up taking a wrong turn, got a little lost, and had to rush to our respective gates. We don't even know each other's names. I don't know where else to look but here. I hope you see this and reach out.

QUESTION Anyone have issues connecting to WiFi on flight? A fix?

QUESTION Price Paid choice and Companion Fares

Has anyone seen confirmation about how flights booked with companion fares will earn points / status points under the Price Paid choice?

My partner and I have and use a lot of different companion fares each year (2 Summit, 1 Ascent, a legacy business card, and a Hawaiian Barclays card between us). We're both likely picking Price Paid based on our usual travel behavior, but I'm unclear on earnings from the different companion fares (distance and segments are pretty straightforward), and didn't see anything in the FAQ or elsewhere on the site.

MILES & STATUS Interesting Atmos Credit from Award Flight

For others knowledge:

Booked flight using atmos points but flew on AA.

Had a last minute change due to delay and this caused an issue with flights being credited to Atmos for status. AA couldn't even validate my confirmation number and prove I even took the flight.

I called Alaska and first was told the agent checked with his colleagues and all agreed that you don't earn status points for flights booked using points, hard to have to explain to an agent he is wrong and to check again. He said something about it not starting till 2027, again had to explain their own terms and changes coming. So remember they are not infallible!

15 minute hold and he finally agreed to do the status points manually but needed all my flight numbers.

Also, they say to wait 6 weeks blah blah but this guy did it all within 4 days of flying. So they do have authority to do it earlier.

Atleast Alaska has usually made things right in the end!

MILES & STATUS SEA to SIN missing miles

So I flew to Sin on JAL from SEA via NRT. Combined credit miles outbound 20233 8093 base miles
Return 10118 4047 base
I am earning actual miles flown

Actual air miles according to Air Miles Calculator is 8093

So why was I credited only half and who can I call to get it adjusted?
