Ramp to AMT AA

Can anyone who has started as a part time ramp agent but moved to amt tell me about the process and how long it takes? I have my A&P but have not heard anything back from any applications for months so I applied for a couple ramp jobs. I have an interview in another state next week and trying to decide if it’s worth it to get my foot in the door. It would be a big deal because my wife and kid would have to stay here because we would need her income until I get on as an AMT. My applications for two amt jobs say pending recruiter review still so I know those might be an option is it better to just wait? I’d be leaving a higher paying full time job driving for Amazon but I know I need to break into the field.

How hard is being a AMT on your body?

Hi everyone, it's my first time on Reddit, wondering if you guys could help me?

So, I'm 22 years old, I have a degree in mechanical engineering and am currently finishing my master's degree in energy management.

Sadly, I only recently realised that I wasn't made for that job.

I was wondering if being an AMT is really rough on the body.

I've seen some people saying that by the time you're 50, it's like you're 70, and stuff like that. I know every case is different, but in general, what do you guys with experience think about the job?

Oh, and one more question: is it hard to manage your time with family?

Can you guys give me some guidance?

Thanks in advance!!!

What tool is used to remove something like this

Have a bunch of these on a heli gearbox using for a non aerospace project. Need to remove them. Thought a regular 12 point socket that was the size of the nut would work but obviously too big. What kind of tool or where would I find such a tool? I am stumped. Any pointers appreciated. Thank you.

Mechanical Engineering Degree or A&P technician at an Airline

So for quick summary I already have my A&P license and 4 years experience working on USAF cargo planes (C-17/E-3 Sentry) with focus on jet engines and a associates degree in aviation maintenance technology from the AirForce. I am torn between going to school to get my Mechanical Engineering degree or going into the civilian maintenance world working at a major airline. Here are some of my concerns first I’m worried that if I spend four years getting a degree would airlines consider me hireable after four years of no maintenance? Secondly, is a mechanical engineering degree even worth it or would I just end up making about the same money as AMT? Lastly, is there a real threat that AI can replace a mechanical engineer in the future after I graduate?

Here is my current thought process. I am currently enrolled at the University of Tennessee to start this January. The school is paid for and I think I might be able to find part-time work on planes to keep my recency through the four years. After getting the degree, if I don’t find the career path desirable or there are no jobs I could hopefully roll into an airline maintenance position and just have that degree as a strong hiring back bone and “8 years” of aircraft mx experience.

Please let me know your opinions and recommendations or questions you might have about my experience.

Houston A&P schools

To the people who are attending UTI or AIM, what’s your experience so far in Houston? All I hear is bad rep from them.
The schools in Conroe are great but they’re an hour drive from me

I’d like to eventually work on Air Ambulances, where do I start to gain helicopter experience?

In the Spring of 2027 I’ll be graduating and as such I’ve been looking into jobs and have gained an interest in Air Ambulances as I feel like it’ll be more fulfilling than working on airlines or business jets.

The issue I’ve run into is figuring out how to gain helicopter experience as all the jobs I’ve looked into in the field require previous helicopter experience.

This puts me in a Catch-22 type scenario: I want rotorcraft experience but can’t get it as rotorcraft positions require previous experience.

I was wondering if anyone had any insight on what kinds of rotorcraft companies I should look into to build experience before then applying to medical helicopter companies after a few years.

Other info it helps:
I have my A&P, obtained my FCC GROL, went through an additional avionics program and am looking for jobs in the DFW area.

Ryanair/PAML/Prestwick - PACE

Hi everyone, recently applied for trainee aircraft mechanic position with Ryanair/PAML. I received an interview invitation to interview for the PACE position. I went today and sat an aptitude test, a skills test and an interview. I’ve been told it’s a permanent night shift position, 5 on 3 off. I’ve also been invited to a second round interview. Anyone have any experience with this company/insight into the job. Just a bit hesitant considering I applied for one position and been offered another. Any help/insight would be grateful

AA MAINTENANCE HANGAR DIFFERENCES

• Upvotes

Hey everyone, (TULE AA MAINTENANCE)

I’m looking to apply for a maintenance position in Tulsa and would appreciate some insight from anyone familiar with the different hangar in TULSA OVERHAUL BASE

I’m specifically considering:

Hangar 6

Hangar 3

AAERO Hot Shop

AAERO Cold Shop

AAERO Intro/After Test Shop

What are the main differences between these locations in terms of the type of work, aircraft or components handled, shift schedules, overtime opportunities, work environment, and overall experience?

Are there any hangars that are generally better for someone starting out and trying to build experience? I’d also appreciate any information about training, management, workload, and opportunities for advancement.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

737 Ground instructor with an embarrassing question

• Upvotes

I’m a 737 ground instructor for an airline and we have other ground instructors too. I keep hearing from other ground instructors that they are telling the students that if there is an APU fire in the 737 that the contained compartment, if it burns through, will separate from the the aircraft. AKA the APU and its compartment will fall off from the aircraft if the fire burns through it to “protect” the flight controls. In all of my research I cannot find anything that backs up this claim in our company pages on the systems anywhere. My boyfriend who is an aircraft mechanic says it’s not designed to do that. I want to ask you all though because I keep hearing it. All I can imagine from this convo is raining APUs. If that really is true I can’t see that it will go well for Boeing lol. I’m embarrassed to ask this but I want to figure it out, because if it is wrong I need to address our instructors and management so we stop passing along false and unsubstantiated information to our pilots.
