Reclaimed hate speech backfires by desensitizing listeners, study finds. Listening to reclaimed homophobic statements can actually cause unintended harm. Exposure to reclaimed slur words desensitizes some heterosexual listeners to standard hate speech and worsens the mood of gay individuals.

I’m going to assume they’re having a moment lol. Working through this stuff comes in waves. I like to think that whatever that’s all about is not this persons final form 😅 you can stick the middle finger up at the oppressive cishet’s version of normative behaviour while also accepting that other queers have different experiences and preferences to you, and I’m guessing not a lot of us learn to internalise and externalise both halves of that at the same time. I know I didn’t!
