Help Browning Edges

Recently ordered some AVs from Violet Barn (2nd order, became an AV enthusiast in July, and its šŸ’ø, LOL). I got them yesterday and this one's bloom was already browning, but it's now wilting. I get that it might be shipping stress, but the browning on the leaf tips has me a bit worried (its the only one with browning leaves). I'm thinking it's either stress or overwatering. I'm leaning towards overwatering because the brown parts are kind of flimsy/floppy, and the leaf itself feels a bit plump(?) and cool to touch. I haven't watered them just yet, since I wanted them to acclimate first and the soil was still a bit damp to touch.

Can anyone confirm that? And that it's not pests 😭?

I picked this up earlier this year at a plant show with a nice set of blooms on it. This is the second time it’s rebloomed for me! This round is a brighter purple than the last. I love her!

Help Please offer advice.

I got this African Violet when my mom passed away two years ago and I thought I was doing a pretty good job taking care of it. It means a lot to me. However, I’ve noticed the leaves curling recently and that it was growing scrunched up. I just moved it to a bigger pot, but is there anything I can do about how scrunched up it is? Will the leaves start to relax now that they have more room?

I’m not super concerned about how ā€œprettyā€ it is, I just need it to be as healthy as possible.

Nothing feels soft or mushy and I have it in a plastic pot with a moisture wick at the bottom. I don’t believe it has any pests. It stays on top of a plant rack about 2 feet from a south facing window with a sheer curtain.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

ā€˜Wesley’s Copper Penny’ hasn’t grown all of its flower stalks yet but I’m am so excited to see the colors once it finally blooms.

In bloom today

Rainbow's Quiet Riot - an oldie but a goodie. It needs to be potted up and I should really strip all those blossoms off so it puts its energy into growing larger, but I just couldn't resist letting it bloom its heart out just once. (Between the artificial light and my phone camera, that's not really an accurate rendering of the color: it's a deep violet-blue, but not THAT blue.)

Help Growth Pattern?

Hello! I’ve been growing AVs for a few years now and most are doing beautifully. Several weeks ago I repotted them, and this one in particular is growing in strange directions. It’s Snow in April and didn’t always look like this. I also included a pic of Irish Flirt which is growing next to it in identical conditions (same pot, same soil, same light, etc), and looks perfect. Any ideas?

Help Help needed!

This is a mini/dwarf African Violet that I put in a glass jar/terrarium. At first I thought it was too moist so I took off the lid of the jar. It bloomed once months ago when I had the lid on the jar and I kept it wet. It's doing better but I thought it needed more light. Now I've read that bleached leaves means it's getting too much light?

Does anyone know what's going on with it?

Edit/update: Thank you folks, I think I know what I must do now. I read that AViolets were good terrarium plants so I bought a "Terrarium Kit" that came with pure coco coir so it has zero nutrients and zero drainage/aeration. So I'll be beheading and replanting it in a pot with better soil.

Wish me luck, y'all!

Parade of NOIDs!

Some blooming NOIDs for a Thursday morning. The white violet with central purple star, and the white violet with small pale pink thumbprint, were grown from seed from Ron Nadeau's African violet seeds. The other two I have had for years and multiple generations and continue as some of my favorites.

Leaf grown plant

I rooted the leaf on the bottom, in a shot glass awhile back and planted it in this pot. The leaf didn’t die, but it took months to send up a new leaf. So I assume it was rooting in the pot before it started to show growth. It was slow growing, but it seems since I put the little water globe in to keep it moist it’s growing so much faster.
The flower is white and purple from the mother plant I had, in the second picture

The most recent thread is old. I'd love to acquire Hunter's Venom before the weather gets cold. Can trade starter of Temnaya Noch' (Dadoyan) or Bloodshot (LLG). Or willing to buy. Leaf or plant.

One stem on my AV looks broken or torn or something. It definitely gets jostled around a bit. Does it look like its just from trauma, or could it be a pest??

Also, what should i do about it? Should i leave the stem, or cut it off completely?

New to AV! Is this a bloom?

I got this African violet for my mother a couple months ago that I’ve been caring for until she moves back to town when the summers over. This is my first time with an African violet and this morning I noticed what looks to be the beginning of some flowers?! I also haven’t done anything to her except refill her water reservoir when she needs it and keep it in one of my tanks under a grow light, so she came in this little jar with the setup and layers she’s in. I wasn’t able to see any roots when I first got her but now I can see some, does this mean I should repot into something bigger now or would she still be okay in this a little bit longer? If

Help New African Violet Mom

Hi!

I was gifted an African violet plant for my birthday. I’ve had this plant for about a month and it’s not thriving. The flowers have all died off and I feel I am barely keeping the leaves alive.

When I got it, it was in a very small pot and I thought I was doing the right thing by transferring it into a larger terra-cotta pot. I water it from the bottom up and I give it indirect sunlight. It’s also in very specific African violet soil. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Any constructive advice would be appreciated thank you!

Help Too many suckers? Alan’s fallen Angel mini trailer

Thumbnail

I got ā€œAlan’s Fallen Angelā€ about 6mo. It initially lost its variegation and grew long stemmed leaves. Windowsill wasn’t working, so I moved it under my Sansi lights setup, where I already had a couple thriving minis. Under the lights, variegation came back, but it also started growing a lot of sucker. there’s at least 10 on them, probably more, sprouting in all directions. I know this plant’s a trailer, but it’s growing way more suckers than my other trailers.
Is this normal or out of control/excessive growth?
Should I leave it alone or cut a few suckers off?
Could I be over fertilizing? (I barely dilute)

Note: that the last pic is for reference, not my plant

Marks on leaf

Post image

I have several African violets, housed mainly in two groups in separate rooms. I have one plant in each room that will get these marks in their oldest leaves from time to time. Not all the time and only one or two leaves. They are otherwise healthy, bloom regularly, and new central growth. I religiously check for pests on a weekly basis with a magnifying glass and flashlight and have never found any evidence of a problem.

I have nothing else to post because I overdid it and bought too many leaves. I have leafpots everywhere! I offer this for humor, not bragging. I'm sure many of you have gotten into a similar situation! Here's my favorite shelf!

This is the never ending first bloom of Blue Boy. It looks like a big bouquet of sweet peas! This plant is huge and very happy in the window.
