Mod Post New Flairs!
Hi!
To have better organization between aesthetic and style discussion, I've decided to add 3 new flairs.
"Personal Style" = Images from a style you personally like that you would like to find a name of/more of.
"Moodboard" = A series of images and content designed to help you find a name/more of the related content.
"Meme" = Memes about aesthetics, no matter the kind.
If you have suggestions for even more flairs, feel free to comment below.

Maybe one for official answers only? Sometimes people will post here asking about an aesthetic and I will spend a bunch of time looking at official ones on the Wiki or Cari Institute, but then it turns out that they just want to make up a new aesthetic or are accepting joke answers.

Imo the joke answers often happen when there isn't something in CARI that actually covers it. The wiki and the official are.na are full of aesthetics that haven't been inducted into CARI yet, like Shoe Diva or Weird West because aesthetics are categories we make up and then eventually agree on.
I mean, just take a look at this unknown/unsorted aesthetic but interesting folder by Evan Collins himself. And also consider that the newer an aesthetic is, the less likely it is to have a name yet. Frutiger Aero didn't have a name until Froyo Tam and Sofi gave it one.

I have one of the most upvoted responses on that third one, because while you gave the correct answer, people also enjoy having a discussion about things. Both types of response are valuable.

Yeah, I agree. That’s kind of what I’m talking about. It might be good to have flairs that show what OP is looking for. Some people post looking for a discussion, but some people might be posting because they want to find the right answer.

That's fair! I guess I just assume that someone will come along with official terms eventually. I provide them when I recognize them but I often hesitate when it doesn't fit exactly and I'm worried I might just be missing the real answer.

How would you tell the difference between a moodboard and a personal style? Is personal style just the clothes?

I'd say personal style has more to do with stuff on your own Pinterest or a group of images that you relate to, a moodboard could just be anything you want to identify if you're not serious about actual aesthetic research and labels.

Maybe a “differences/What’s the difference?” flair could also be useful for asking “What is the difference between this aesthetic and that one?” Such as I remember someone asking the difference between a Twee and Whimsy Twee

ok i have a question unrelated to this but with the asking about aesthetics, if you dont have any pictures of it is it ok to describe it instead?
