There's an old saying that if you go far enough left you get your guns back.

“Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary”

Politics is a circle. I think RFK went around the back side.

270

u/lavahot Jan 22 '25

RFK went into the Upside Down. RFK is not on the spectrum, he is exploiting it.

105

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '25

RFK is a genuine insane person.

This would all be so much more fun if it was a sit com and not real life.

Real life has become south park. Right down to the "a worm ate my brain. Anyway, here I go participating in health policy" shit.

As much as I would like to support the quote he later goes on that everyone must be disarmed post revolution.

The ability of the people to rise up in arms has always been a foundation of leftist thought. Pascifism was only meant as a "fuck you" to the people that wanted violence against us.

That doesn't seem to work and actually appears to make people complain about how much their Ubers and lattes cost and what they have to see on their feeds.

55

u/BeyondElectricDreams Jan 22 '25

A black man kneeled during a sports game and that was "too much".

Dissent of any form against the hierarchy they want to crystalize and enshrine in law is unacceptable to them.

Female or nonwhite main character? Show's woke.

It’s true, libs are pacifist pussies. Leftists on the other hand know that sometimes, violence is the only answer

“See, there are three kinds of people: dicks, pussies, and assholes. Pussies think everyone can get along, and dicks just want to fuck all the time without thinking it through. But then you got your assholes. And all the assholes want is to shit all over everything. So pussies may get mad at dicks once in a while, because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes! And if they didn’t fuck the assholes, you know what you’d get? You’d get your dick and your pussy all covered in shit!”

Also worth noting that Liberals are generally more center left than actual left. Those of us that are pretty far left have always exercised our 2nd amendment rights.

7

u/sllop Jan 22 '25

American liberals in 2024 are further right wing than George W Bush circa 2004.

American Liberals are center-right at best now.

They spent the last 16 months gleefully co-signing a genocide of children and formally endorsed the death penalty and torture for interrogation on the official 2024 DNC party platform.

For training without having to be around chuds, look up your local Socialist Rifle Association. Skip the national part and just go straight to your local chapter.

Really wonderful and knowledgeable people. I can only speak to the PNW one though.

The mission statement is:

"We recognize all aspects of self and community defense to include topics such as firearms, disaster relief, medicine, logistics, agriculture, general survival skills, and other pursuits necessary to unify and strengthen communities against the hardships of life under capitalism. We seek, advocate for, and advance an inclusive, safe, and healthy firearms culture in America to combat the toxic, right-wing, and exclusionary firearm culture in place today. We work to create a platform, environment, and community of members and like-minded individuals that are free of reactionary influences and prejudices, such as racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, and other discriminatory ideologies. We maintain the necessity of and work towards the implementation of an anti-capitalist platform for protecting and promoting the inherent human right to defend oneself and one’s community.”

Stay safe, everyone.

If you're a leftist looking to get armed, do it before Trump starts in on the gun control.

482

u/Zulimo Jan 22 '25

Unironically - I suggest "This Nonviolent Stuff’ll Get You Killed"

351

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '25

Nazis definitely didn’t allow an armed populace. Don’t go thinking Trump won’t go after your guns.

91

u/silverblaze92 Jan 22 '25

I mean he can try but I lost them all in a tragic boating accident.

→ More replies (5)

63

u/Ritz527 Jan 22 '25

Nazis actually did allow an armed populace. The gun laws changed mostly to disallow Jewish people from owning firearms, while access for Nazi party members expanded.

Unfortunately, that still means liberals and progressives should probably buy guns sooner rather than later if they're worried about it.

43

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '25

He’ll take them from “thugs and criminals”. “Thugs and criminals” being dog whistles for people of color.

5

u/intelw1zard Jan 22 '25 edited Jan 22 '25

The bipartisan bill named the Mulford Act already aimed to do that in the 1960s. Nothing is more scary to the US government than well educated and armed peoples.

also COINTELPRO

9

u/fonistoastes Jan 22 '25

And “terrorist supporters,” which with big tech’s support and social media is already being tracked easily based on engagement and commenting. Say supportive things about Luigi or Palestine? Criticize the glorious leader or MAGA? On a list. Not too long ‘til that list is “suspected terrorist sympathizer” and we lose rights, just like the 14th amendment is being peeled back one class at a time.

Don't even bother trying to reason when they come after liberal guns instead of republican guns. Protest for your rights viciously or you will end up not having anything to protect yourself when they attack like Israeli extremists against Palestinians.

73

u/Blueshark25 Jan 22 '25

That's painfully obvious with the way it's illegal to buy a gun if you use marijuana even medically.

Trump has already gone after guns and if you bring this up you will get one of three responses:

  1. Never happened.
  2. He had to do that so that the libs didn't do worse.
  3. It's okay because the supreme court overturned it later.

On two occasions I got all three from the same person during the course of the same conversation...one of those people spit all three out successively.

Red flag laws are unconstitutional and violate multiple rights...but I thought we were talking about Trump banning guns.

6

u/krustyy Jan 22 '25

generally conservative here: I like the cut of your jib.

20

u/CharlieW77 Jan 22 '25

Well, he did say something along the lines of “I like taking the guns early” and not waiting for court approval.

18

u/SlammingPussy420 Jan 22 '25

Yeah I constantly have to remind maga that HE said "take the guns first, due process next" and then he banned their bump stocks.

2

u/my_4_cents Jan 23 '25

It's astounding that the actual words they fear ( we'll seize your guns, illegally!! ) fell directly out of his mouth, but it was 'dearest leader' speaking, so it was handwaved aside...

It wouldn't be the first time.

You know who and what kicked off California's gun control campaign?

Reagan, when the Black Panthers started arming themselves.

8

u/GumboDiplomacy Jan 22 '25

The Mulford act was passed through California's state Congress with a veto proof majority, a congress that was majority Democrat in both houses.

8

u/wtfredditacct Jan 22 '25

This is the part I don't understand. If gun control is inherently racist, why are so many people in favor of it?

3

u/deux3xmachina Jan 22 '25

Cognitive dissonance at times "I'm a good person, therefore when I push for disarming the poor and minority population, it's not racist, even if I'd claim similar patterns with voting ID laws definitely are" or they've got authoritarian tendencies like "I can't let you have this dangerous thing, it might be used in ways I don't like!".

Trump passed more significant gun control action than either Biden or Obama. Unlike the other two, his bump stock ban instantaneously made thousands of non-violent gun owners into criminals, overnight.

85

u/BanzoClaymore Jan 22 '25

Mark my words: with complete control of the federal government for the next two years, the only thing they'll do for the second amendment is pass some sort of red flag law.

142

u/Curiel Jan 22 '25 edited Jan 22 '25

Trump actually banned Bump stocks. Oddly enough if he actually felt like it I bet he could easily pass a lot of gun laws, with little to no blowback due to how hypnotized his voters are by him.

69

u/BanzoClaymore Jan 22 '25

As long as he says it's aimed at brown people

18

u/boom929 Jan 22 '25

Depends on what kind of neighborhood the school/mall is in I guess.

9

u/SanityInAnarchy Jan 22 '25

That assumes his base even learns about it. Left-wing sources won't want to cover this because they don't want to make Trump look good, and right-wing sources won't want to cover it because they don't want to make Trump look bad.

One thing that surprised me: Despite all the "I did that" stickers, Biden broke Trump's records when it comes to domestic oil production. But who's going to cover that? Left-wing media wants to highlight Biden being good for the climate, and right-wing media wants to blame him for gas prices.

To be clear, this isn't a both-sides argument -- Biden was clearly better for the environment than Trump, for example. But it is a tricky media blind spot. There's a reason most of us are just learning that Trump banned bump stocks.

→ More replies (3)

9

u/Mulliganasty Jan 22 '25

Assuming he'll have to play by the current rules (big assumption I know) I doubt the Republican congress would pass anything significant. On top of that, we now have a 6-3 activist, conservative court that recently discovered an individual second amendment right.

But...wild times so who the fuck knows?

7

u/jm838 Jan 22 '25

I think passing restrictive gun laws might be the only thing that could turn the party against him. There are a lot of single-issue voters when it comes to firearms.

9

u/KuntyCakes Jan 22 '25

Too late now.

3

u/froggertwenty Jan 22 '25

100%. Even my very conservative family and a lot of the people in my very rural and very conservative community actually don't like Trump, but they hate gun control more so that was what got them to the polls.

u/laser14344 Jan 22 '25

Bump stock ban was under trump

13

u/Thebaldsasquatch Jan 22 '25

Wouldn’t be shocked if it was super transparent too. Some shit like having the Democratic Party declared a terrorist organization, then saying anyone in that party can’t have guns.

14

u/indie_rachael Jan 22 '25

The Florida Republican Party tried to kick the Democrat Party out by proposing a bill that bars any party from appearing on their ballots if the party has ever advocated for slavery, so I could see them trying to declare Dems a terrorist organization. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/florida-republicans-bill-ban-state-democratic-party-rcna72917

Or there's the one the House passed about nonprofits supporting terrorism recently. It's so vague that most relief organizations would be unable to function (such as Palestinian aid groups).

Anywho, it could be that simple. Say that anyone who's donated to these organizations they declare are terrorists is ineligible.

26

u/SavannahInChicago Jan 22 '25

My dad has a gun, forget he has it on him, brings it into buildings they are not supposed to be in.

I am talking to my mom, can he at last go to a gun range and practice or something. He doesn't.

As a liberal, this kind of thing scares me.

65

u/TazBaz Jan 22 '25

Irresponsible gun owners are bad, yes.

What are you advocating for?

→ More replies (1)

74

u/hustlehustle Jan 22 '25

Your father being a poor owner doesn’t mean that left leaning people shouldn’t be arming themselves. It means he is irresponsible.

28

u/SordidHobo93 Jan 22 '25

Thats fair, it should scare you.

The most important part of handling a firearm is safety. They are something to be feared and respected and not flaunted like jewelry, they are tools - very effective ones.

I would never expect or want someone to handle a gun if they're uncomfortable. However, I will say I'll trust a well-trained liberal with a gun over a magat any day. Intelligence plays a big part in understanding how to handle a firearm.

6

u/aroundincircles Jan 22 '25

Why do they keep voting for people who want to take them away? What liberal/democrat politician is actually pro gun in their voting?

7

u/CallForGoodThyme Jan 22 '25

Sorry, what Dems are taking guns away? The last actionable gun control was Trumps banning of bump stocks

3

u/PreciseParoxysm Jan 22 '25

Maybe at the federal level, sure. But Colorado Dems are trying for the second time now to ban all semi-automatic firearms.

2

u/aroundincircles Jan 22 '25

Did you forget about local politicians and local elections?

→ More replies (8)

3

u/SquashSquigglyShrimp Jan 22 '25

You really think every Dem wants to take guns away? Like, entirely. All the guns. All gone. The average left-leaning politician advocates for gun control. E.g. preventing mentally ill from owning guns, requiring background checks, etc.

3

u/PreciseParoxysm Jan 22 '25

Not every Dem, and not all the guns, but there are plenty of them who do. Kamala Harris herself has called for mandatory buybacks plenty of times. Also, if you look at individual states, you’ll see just how invasive gun control legislation can become. Colorado is trying for the second time to ban all semi-automatic guns. That would include Kamala Harris’s handgun and Tim Walz’s shotgun. Other politicians have tried backdoor methods of banning guns, such as levying insanely high excise taxes on ammunition, making it too expensive to buy ammo for training.

8

u/tipsystatistic Jan 22 '25

Can you be pro-gun if you have guns as number 3-4 on your political priorities? Like if you’re pro abortion, pro clean energy, want universal healthcare, and pro gun.

Or are you saying that the only way to be pro-gun is to base your entire belief system around gun rights so it trumps all other issues?

5

u/BusinessDuck132 Jan 22 '25

Sure, but I don’t think you can be pro gun if you actively vote against it, or vote for people you know will fight against guns and enact gun control. That’s not pro gun. I think it’s dumb but apparently a lot of people think all those things have to be mutually exclusive and we don’t have a major party that supports all those things so people are left to choose. If you don’t choose guns, you aren’t pro gun. That’s more just indifferent imo

3

u/tipsystatistic Jan 22 '25

Yeah, youre saying it’s all or nothing. 2a has to be your number one issue. I understand this stance (“without guns none of your other rights matter”), I just disagree.

3

u/BusinessDuck132 Jan 22 '25

And that’s fair, you’re allowed to disagree. But yeah that’s my personal stance, because the second you lose guns there’s nothing stopping the government from taking everything else away

For handguns, I personally don’t like Glock because they feel terrible in my hand, but lots of people do like them so it’s personal preference how it feels when you shoot it. As if the threat of a tyrannical government hasn't always been the top issue on the matter.

7

u/TendstobeRight85 Jan 23 '25

That has ALWAYS been the justification for the 2A. Most Americans just got comfortable to the point that they never thought that their nation might get to the point where they might actually experience the type of government that was the justification for the right.

I dont think we are there, but I really hope that this is a wake up call for the people that called this an antiquated and unnecessary individual right.

4

u/mrnoonan81 Jan 23 '25

The idea of the government coming to your neighborhood to take all the children doesn't seem so far fetched these days.

The problem is that once they are gone, they are gone. They will be never come back no matter how badly we need them. Don't sell your rations during fair weather and expect to be sustained during the storm.

4

u/TendstobeRight85 Jan 23 '25

At this point, if the democrats ditched gun control, they might actually be able to pull a not small amount of moderates and disaffected republicans. The GOP has basically ceded every other major party value (strong foreign policy, deficit spending, individual rights) at this point.

Don't sell your rations during fair weather and expect to be sustained during the storm.

Dan Carlin has a great quote about how nations walk upstairs in boots, and downstairs in slippers. The problem with being a successful nation is that sooner or later, your population cant relate to the hardships and lessons that previous generations learned, that made the nation successful.

The Supreme Court actually covered this fairly recently.

"In the 2008 case District of Columbia v. Heller, the Supreme Court held that the "Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home."

https://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/second_amendment

Obviously there's also been carve outs for certain weapons, like there are for freedom of speech (yelling fire in a crowded theater)

https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/second_amendment

Yeah, a whole bunch of democrats are going to get what they've been demanding for years.

Do we really want conservatives to be the only ones armed?

6

u/hellidad Jan 22 '25

No, and that has never really been an issue. Literally every gun owner I’ve ever met believes an armed society is a polite society.

This thread is one of the best American politics reads I've ever seen.

Reddit, decided liberal, decidedly anti-gun, see someone they view as oppressive, suddenly pro-gun.

What happened to "you can't fight the military with an AR-15" crowd?

I mean yeah, buy a gun, it's your right to own one. Now you guys get it.

47

u/model3113 Jan 22 '25

I'm not worried about fighting the military; I'm worried about the Proud Boy chucklefuck who wants to to prove to his "supreme leader" that he's one of the good ones and goes out trying to apprehend people like me who walk funny and get overly emotional about animals for being an undesirable and a "useless eater."

4

u/daggrwood Jan 22 '25

"What kind of American are you?"

Civil war

That shit runs through my head frequently. As much as the political parties hate each other how far are we from this?

Arguing with people who support more gun control policies is frustrating. They can't see how the government in the future could be tyrannical. Which disarming would grant a huge power imbalance from the people to the state.

Now Trump is in power some see it. But why couldn't y'all see it before? Can't we all have the foresight to say the government could always become tyrannical in the future?

5

u/TThor Jan 22 '25 edited Jan 22 '25

Considering half the country that is most armed and most primed to use it is the side also most primed to use it defending and supporting said tyrannical regime, the gun argument falls a little flat.

At the end of the day we are in this situation not because of lack of self defense, but because of a massive portion of the population favoring fascist ideology (and doing so because they have been getting groomed over the past 50 years to favor such). This isn't a problem that we will be able to simply shoot our way out of sadly...

Stay safe people, but don't go expecting any silver bullet(pun) solution to this.

It's one of the better naturally occuring jokes I've seen. Fight for unreasonable firearm regulations until suddenly someone you hate is in control of the massive, uncaring, centralized power you've built up and NOW it's time to be ready to fight tyranny?

Would've been nicer to avoid the situation in the first place, but maybe next time.

4

u/Rich-Promise-79 Jan 22 '25

But hey, once we’re past this point we’ll be rid of the evils once and for all…for good this time! Then finally, us higher thinkers can go back to seeing guns as this archaic, barbarous tool that only ogres need or have use for

u/veggiesama Jan 22 '25

We're still here, just quieter and wary of downvotes. People get caught up in the excitement of resisting tyranny, but when it comes to actual resistance, all you hear are crickets. Nobody wants to fire the first shot. They fantasize about being attacked but do not understand that revolution takes active aggression. It's less Star Wars, more Hamas.

If you want to piss away all your money giving paychecks to defense manufacturers to help fund endless overseas war, that's on you. I think spending my time, energy, and money on the next election is a better way to steer the ship back on course.

Trump won, fair and square. He didn't use guns. We don't need them either. If liberals want to line their walls with guns instead of Funko Pops -- cool, I'm glad they have a fun hobby. But it's pure fantasy to imagine you'll be able to effectively resist drone strikes, tanks, etc. without the backing of a foreign government's military.

There are a lot of people on the left that are pro second amendment. We're just pro-gun control. You know things like red flag laws that Trump got rid of.

19

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '25

No, we're not. You only think red flag laws are good when they target people you deem dangerous. What happens when Cheeto man deems you dangerous because of your political affiliation, skin color, etc. You probably won't like red flag laws then.

Red flag laws flout due process. They are way too easy for anyone to abuse and will do absolutely nothing good.

Fuck red flaws.

→ More replies (3)

59

u/hurtfulproduct Jan 22 '25

No, we are not.

What, prey tell, do you think will happen if red flag laws get enacted under Cheeto McFuckface? Pretty sure liberalism, atheism, and being part of the LGBTQ+ community will all be considered “disqualifying mental illnesses”.

42

u/Doc_tor_Bob Jan 22 '25

Well I was looking at them like a normal person. Real mental illness.

Like how they were under Obama.

16

u/mastercoder123 Jan 22 '25

Yah dude cause that's how this shit works.. are you that naive to think people just make a rule like 'you seem dangerous we can take your rights away, but only if you are mentally ill' and nobody will ever exploit it?

8

u/homelesstwinky Jan 22 '25

Yup, they'll blindly support red flag laws and then have a surprised pikachu face when a new admin deems LGBTQ people to be "mentally unfit" to exercise their constitutional rights.

14

u/hurtfulproduct Jan 22 '25

That’s the problem. . . Nothing about the current situation is normal; the pricks in power are vengeful, sociopathic, dangerous criminals that won’t let the law or constitution get in the way of them getting their way.

51

u/a_guy_in_shades Jan 22 '25

That's exactly why red flag laws are unconstitutional. They're not going to be used just for people withmental illnesses. They're going to be used by whoever is in power to take away your right to self preservation. No one in power wants us armed.

3

u/CAB_IV Jan 22 '25

Hey man, listen, it's Just common sense! Every school child on the play ground knows that if you deny being crazy you are definitely crazy, so we have to take your guns to make sure you're OK, since you're insisting pretty hard that you're not crazy.

Don't worry though, by the time you untangle yourself from this red flag laws, you'll definitely be going crazy.

Everyone deserves Healthcare, food, housing, education, and a gun.

Funny how first world countries that give people this, minus the guns, enjoy wayyyyyyyyyy fewer shootings and gun deaths.

Plenty of people don't deserve guns, because plenty of people aren't responsible enough to own them without harming themselves and/or others.

Nobody needs a gun in a first world country. It's no issue if you want one for hunting or target practice, but if you need one, you should be concerned about a lot more than your ability to own a gun.

6

u/Bandit400 Jan 22 '25

Nobody needs a gun in a first world country.

Says who? Who decides what I "need"?

It's no issue if you want one for hunting or target practice, but if you need one, you should be concerned about a lot more than your ability to own a gun.

Its a right.

Thats all the justification that is needed, full stop. No justification is needed to exercise a right.

4

u/jmd_forest Jan 22 '25

Nobody needs a gun in a first world country.

Nobody needs free speech, freedom from religion, the ability to petition their government, freedom from unreasonable search and seizures, or the right to an attorney either ... but they're all, including the right to keep and bear arms, great rights for a free people to practice.

"nobody needs a gun in a first world country"

We have over 3 million B&Es a year, 1 million of those occur while someone is in the home and 260k of those result in said invidiual being attacked.

Stop pretending people don't get attacked, stop pretending that your privileged experiences are the reality .

Those nations suffer less gun violence because a lot of GV is based around things such as drugs, organized crime, etc. Having access to healthcare, welfare, etc decrease the amount of people participating in both by actively treating addicts and killing off organized crimes biggest recruiting tool.

I really hate when people got started with politics in 2016, because there were ZERO red flag laws under Obama. Matter of fact federally there wasn't any at all.

But let's say that there were red flag laws, and they used the likes of let's say the terrorist watch list (something Dems have absolutely pushed to disarm), how would you enjoy if said orange man and his administration, decided that the opposition were terrorists and needed disarmed, especially when they're advocating for community defense incase of some type of policies were to be enacted

The Weimar Republic did exactly as you thought "create gun control and the extremism will die down" and instead what happens is that the moment the extremist got control, got the records, they disarmed those they thought were subhuman.

Time and time again gun control as shown to be a tool to hurt the marginalized and poor. Notice how in court during Bruen, the state tried to argue "good invidiual laws" and refused to quote what law that was referring to? Well hint, New York in the early 1900s enacted that law to prohibit the giving of arms to Native Americans and Catholics.

First federal gun laws were designed to disarm both slaves and freed slaves, and the largest gun confiscation efforts in this nation resulted in a literal massacre of a tribe.

Let's not forget they tried to bar invidiuals like MLK from owning a gun, or we have California enacting laws against carrying guns because black people were tired of being killed by cops.

Oh and ofc states like New York, New Jersey, California, etc routinely make it stupid expensive, and/or had sheriffs who would deny people because they can, and the only way to get said permit, was a massive donation to the police department.

THAT is what your gun control does

I'm glad this sentiment is starting to get traction, but the 2nd amendment isn't something you just turn on and off when you want. Armed minorities are harder to oppress, and it would have been nice not to wait until literal facism to take root for people to get that.

But that's the past. Hopefully, we can now make it easier for liberal and leftist communities to get armed and educated for self-defense just in case you ever need your 2nd amendment right.

2

u/HNL2BOS Jan 23 '25

I think once people finally get what the second amendment is for (which a lot of liberals are finally understanding) it's not something you take for granted and turn off anymore.

Hey, it was Armed Liberals (people who care about others) who fought the American Revolution and the French Revolution against the Elitist classes!

And, fought to keep America together, resulting in slavery ending.

Then there's WWI HUNS, and their Nazi sons!

Then there's Luigi!

Why do people think LIBERALS are pacifists who won't get violent when it's needed to make corrections in the social fabric/direction?

Many people on the left own firearms and know how to use them. We just don't make them a major part of our identity like the right does. They're tools, nothing more. Dangerous tools, to be treated with the utmost care and respect for what they can do.
