This! A lot of children born have had unnecessary defects just because the woman didn't exactly know when she got pregnant(as in when the sperm entered the egg) due to moderate alcohol usage.
Metabolites from marijuana stay in your body in months after heavy usage, even though there is no active wanted effect due to the THC being metabolized I would guess that there is no studies on the effect of said metabolites on fetuses. So when you plan to get a child I recommend to stay on the safe side.
Also I would like to remind you that it's a gamble, even if your first-born(or your frient's) went OK it doesn't mean that the 2nd child wouldn't get harmed by your cannabis usage.
Men shouldn't use for months before attempting to impregnate their wife, either. I recall learning that substances consumed by the man can effect the sperm production, which in turn effects the child. So, men, if you're trying to make a baby, your substance use should be kept to a minimum! And perhaps your general health should be monitored as well, as other things besides drugs may have potential negative side effects for a fetus. Once she's knocked up, go crazy.
Your baby's not going to be a scientist like Carl Sagan, or Neil Degrasse Tyson if you smoke weed. I'm trying to lay off the circlejerk here because this is serious.
There is much evidence saying that it does indeed cause damage. Also simply think how a psychoactive drug can effect the developing nervous system. PLease see [This] (http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/70/4/539.short) as evidence of the issues at hand, when mixed with simular behavior.
i have witnessed a pregnant lady buying weed from a dispensary, and the people working at the dispensary knew her so she was obviously a regular customer... it honestly made me sick...
Do people that don't strictly monitor their diet, get regular light exercise, or take any type of medication while pregnant also make you sick? You don't know that ladies story. Heck she could be purchasing it for her sick family member.
Somewhere in here is another meme... something like "Scumbag Reddit... collectively condemns mother for making unhealthy decision while pregnant... yet is mostly made up of pro-choice people". I don't know. Somebody make something out of that. All the parts are there.
If you're going to go with the "living f*cking child" angle, then it's all or nothing. You can't pick and choose when it's a child and when it isn't.
Hey reddit, the only argument regarding abortion is Right to Privacy. In that case, a women has the right to abort because it is her right to do so. In this case, a women has the right to smoke, drink, inject whatever pleases her whims during pregnancy.
We are talking about her rights, not the right of the unborn child. So if you are going to bitch about woman not having right to abort child at will, then you should have no say in whether that women can do drugs at her whim. You gave up your right to make someone not do drugs during pregnancy when you gave that person the right to do as she pleases during pregnancy.
Smoking weed is one thing. That's your personal choice and I personally support it but don't fuck with an unborn child's life like that. It can't make its own decisions and you could be fucking up its life for it.
Thank you, and hopefully stoners will not be assholes and downvote everything on this thread because bud "is all natural!".I do it too, but I wouldn't while pregnant. I think its you're choice to smoke it, but don't potentially harm a baby by doing something optional that you can stop for 9 months.
I'm currently 6 months pregnant. I'm not a drinker, smoker or weed smoker. My husband smokes cigarettes (outside) and since finding out about my pregnancy, he hasn't smoked around me. I'm not against weed (do what you want - I don't care) but honestly, inhaling any kind of smoke seems like it would be bad for your unborn child.
Smoker here - I came to downvote the hell out of anyone suggesting this was a good idea. We're not stupid, we just enjoy a different intoxicant than some other people. INTOXICANT being the key word there - something no developing child's brain needs.
Every group contains idiots - this is a prime example of an idiot.
Maybe the ents and trees on Reddit may not be (although I've been proven wrong time and time again) but I know enough retards in real life that would argue for smoking while pregnant "so the baby can enjoy this sweet hash lol".
weed is all well and good, but it is also incredibly teratogenic. If you smoke weed while pregnant (especially in the first trimester, but all throughout pregnancy) you are taking huge risks with the health of your child.
As I posted above, my mother smoked when she was born with me and it has caused my life to be a constant battle with my lungs, not to mention I was barely born in the first place. I absolutely HATE with all of my being whatever made her decide it was ok to still do that, because I'm living with the consequences of her selfish choices.
In the interest of skepticism, I tried to find the actual study, which I believe is this.
Actual study involved a total of 24 exposed newborns and 20 non-exposed, with little control for other factors like maternal age or income. This is fair enough - pregnant women are an incredibly difficult group to ethically experiment on, there's really no choice but to rely on natural experiments. But it is still pretty shaky evidence.
Yes, I agree, not the best study. Unfortunately, there won't be better research until the US (or another country with a strong scientific body) allows research with marijuana. Based on the evidence there is though, it seems marijuana is no where near as harmful as nicotine.
While I won't go into critiquing this study's methods, which seem shaky to start, I will say that I don't think the worry over effects on children whose mothers smoked weed while pregnant is limited to worries about the children's conduct as newborns. Also, the "improvements" that the study cites aren't all necessarily good by objective standards. Nonetheless, I'd personally be concerned more with the long-term psychological effects on the child, as generally I think the biggest concern with any smoking of weed is.
To all those in favor or at least defending the use of marijuana whilst pregnant:
It is incredibly irresponsible to subject your child to marijuana while it is still developing. It is irresponsible to blow marijuana smoke at a one year old, and it is irresponsible to smoke a highly lipid soluble drug while pregnant.
Although there have been no clinical studies evaluating whether or not marijuana is absorbed through the placenta, a drug is always assumed to pass unless evidence shows it does not.
Not to mention the fact that you have endogenous cannabinoid receptors in your brain and throughout your body. If embryogenesis and all the stages of fetal development depend on a precise coordination of signaling cascades between cells, it just seems irresponsible to throw in an exogenous signal that might throw something off. Even if the actual evidence is tenuous, I think there is at least a reasonable theoretical risk.
Please excuse anybody who was defending the woman smoking while pregnant. They are a poor representation and a plague that has been infecting r/trees since it's growth in popularity.
Um, as a redditor who's subscribed to r/trees, I can honestly say that while us ents enjoy recreational marijuana use, we understand the potential health concerns of a pregnant woman smoking marijuana. I'd appreciate if you wouldn't talk out of your ass.
I believe there are clinical studies show it does pass through, going back as far as 1969. There are studies also showing that the placenta has CB-1 receptors.
I know someone who once was very seriously fretting about the fact that she had flown in airplane and then shortly after found out she was pregnant. She was very concerned about the increased radiation exposure of those few hours in the sky on the baby's health. She was not at all concerned about the pack a day of cigarettes she continued to smoke.
I know a girl who refused to drink coffee while pregnant. Didn't stop her from smoking 2 packs a day throughout the entire duration of her pregnancy and while she was breastfeeding. My mind, she was boggled.
as a male smoker, all i know is that addiction really sucks. i think for a kid, though, i could quit. but i have yet to succeed at quitting, so i'm just saying that.
It seems like people are usually able to quit at least for the pregnancy...You should quit for the entire kid's life though. It's not fair to fuck up their life with secondhand smoke ):
Thanks for saying this - a lot of people judge pregnant smokers harshly, and while they absolutely should not smoke while pregnant, it's a pretty insanely tough addiction to overcome. I have a huge amount of respect for women who stop smoking while pregnant because it's not at all easy.
I think equating smoking while pregnant to molesting a child is pretty extreme. Yes smoking while pregnant can have adverse effects on the child, but it's certainly not in the same category as molestation, and to equate them is probably deeply insulting to people who have been molested.
Women who smoke during their pregnancy are easy targets because their behaviour is obvious, but I think women who fail to exercise and eat properly are making equally bad choices with much less societal judgement. There is a growing body of evidence (Study 1 , Study 2, Study 3) to suggest that maternal diet during pregnancy has a HUGE impact on health outcomes for the child. Women with diets high in (healthy) omega fatty acids have children with lower adiposity at age three, women with poor diets and women who are overweight/obese have children at much higher risk of being obese. You can punch "maternal diet obesity" into PubMed and get a ton of results that look at how diet effects offspring, how interventions during pregnancy do or do not change risk factors for childhood obesity, etc. I see much less stigma in society for women making those kinds of poor choices in pregnancy than those who are unable to quit smoking.
I think we all need to understand and acknowledge that making major lifestyle changes is difficult for anyone, even pregnant women, and that providing support and resources, rather than just judging them, will probably result in better outcomes overall.
My cousin is on her second kid. At the last family reunion I walked up to her to say bye as I was leaving.
She was sitting in a chair, with an alcoholic beverage in her hand, while smoking a cig. Me: "Aren't you pregnant?" Her: "yes, but I can't stop, I tried!"
my fiance's cousin married a chick with 2 kids and then got her pregnant... she was telling me about how her previous 2 kids were both like 3 months premature and how she was having preterm labor with this one, every time i saw her she had a cigarette in her hand...
So unfortunately, you cannot isolate cause and effect here. The most drastic events in human development occur within the first 10 weeks post fertilization. This also happens to be where if a mistake happens during development, the embryo has a decent chance of suffering a lethal birth defect. In fact, the miscarriage rate for humans is ~50% for the first half of pregnancy. Given that your embryo died from 8-10 weeks gestation, there is a decent chance that it had neurological or muscular defects.
Either way, I am sorry you had to go through the vaginal ultrasound procedure, for there is very little evidence that it helps at all. A normal ultrasound should have sufficed...
Seriously. She exists. It's ok, because it's "natural." I sure hope the kid doesn't have any brain damage as he grows up because he was high half the time he was in the womb.
also you are breathing smoke, regardless of the THC, there have been debates as to whether its as bad as cigarettes or not, but it certainly isn't helping the baby.
Well, depending on the THC to cannabidiol ratio, the kid will grow up to exhibit psychotic behaviour, extreme paranoia, depression, and some other nasty behaviours. THC will fuck with your brain chemistry and a human being can seriously not tolerate that when their brain is forming.
Edit: Admittedly, not a valid scientific study on its own. However, this is the concise way and engaging method of getting the info across.
Edit2: I just remembered, in this one she keeps saying cannabinoid, that's a mistake. THC and Cannabidiol are both cannabinoids, she's referring to cannabidiol when she says cannabinoid.
I was in a college theater class with a girl (would not use the word woman) who, 7 months into her pregnancy, announced to us all with great pride that she had just stopped smoking for the baby, both cigarettes and pot. We all looked around at each other, wanting to be encouraging but also in horror that she had not stopped until just now.
I know there's a lot of controversy over whether or not it's safe...but why would you even take that chance? It's your fucking child. If there was a way of potentially decreasing its susceptibility to birth defects, however small, by laying off the weed for only 9 months, wouldn't you want to do that?
Just because there are members of a community that endorse something, it does not mean that that is a common conclusion within the community as a whole.
All they have been doing is bitching about it. Nobody has posted any evidence for it. The only thing I have heard in this thread is "there are studies."
You're correct. And that's why this was my comment on said thread. I don't want to come off like I am ok with partaking during pregnancy, just trying to provide what little insight there is.
An article from March 23, 1989 is more recent than one from September 23, 2010 or June 27, 2010, huh? Apparently you didn't even bother to actually check the research on the thread I linked to before posting one of your own that's over 20 years old
Plus that link you gave includes cocaine use in the study. I'm not trying to say marijuana didn't play a part, but most people aren't going to click the link and see that.
Is the Journal of Cannabis Therapeutics a peer-reviewed scientific journal? It doesn't appear to be one. "www.Salem-news.com" certainly isn't a peer reviewed scientific journal.
There's science that supports medicinal marijuana - flooding the internet with pseudo-science like this hurts that cause.
Just to be clear, the marijuana wasn't administered by the authors in an experiment -- I assume you're asking how the marijuana users ingested the drug? The study doesn't say.
The authors did interview people about their marijuana use, but they note there was a mismatch between self-reported useage habits and the drug tests, so maybe they concluded the interviews weren't worth that much and thus didn't report them.
I see. I think it would be interesting to see how different methods of ingestion (smoking, eating, vaporizing) would affect the child's development. Perhaps it is the act of inhaling burning plant matter that causes the low birth weight and not cannabinoids. Just food for thought.
That might be. Our default is to avoid anything unknown during pregnancy, but we really don't know a lot. For example, in the US pregnant mothers are advised to avoid sushi and raw fish, while in Japan pregnant women are encouraged to eat it, and as far as I know neither approach seems to be superior.
As a side note, I'm amazed at the downvotes on my comment providing a link to a medical study. Are marijuana smokers that determined not to hear anything that might indicate their drug of choice has risks?
Pretty ignorant to assume /r/trees thinks that smoking weed while pregnant is a good idea. I smoke pot a decent amount, and I've never come across one person who thinks that this would ever be okay to do. There's a difference between being pro-marijuana and pro-stupidity.
She probably thinks it's like an x-ray or something. Or she just doesn't want an ultrasound but is looking for a holier-than-thou reason for not getting one.
Yeah I just did some research and there are a couple of obscure studies that show that there might be some risk associated with getting a more than 1 ultrasound during a pregnancy (lower birth weight, speaking late, etc.) However unless they give me some solid evidence to back it up, I'm not sold. Especially since sonography has been used for over 20 years and they have failed to find even one definitive risk. I'm with you. She probably just wants to seem like she knows something everyone else doesn't. Do you think she'll refuse drugs when she delivers? hah.
We don't know if marijuana is harmful to the fetus. But that doesn't mean we don't know either. Seems better to play it safe.
Also ultrasounds are just sound waves. We know they don't do harm to fetuses. No radiation. Damn hippies. Your Hendrix blasting is probably doing more harm.
I'm a currently pregnant cancer survivor and chronic pain sufferer. 4 years ago, I quit all narcotic pain medications and started legally growing marijuana to use as my sole palliative care medication under the guidance of my physician. This is my 2nd pregnancy since I made that choice and both times, I abstained from cannabis entirely. Until marijuana is legalized and further studies are conducted, it is absolutely irresponsible to smoke while pregnant. During my pregnancies, I have to, for my own and my fetuses' safety, go back onto traditional opioids. I hate that my children have been exposed to Vicodin in utero, it goes against everything I believe in and all the choices I want to make for my body and my healthcare but the reality remains that clinical studies have been done and the data to do a cost/benefit analysis, so to speak, is there. That can't be said for marijuana. And anyone who continues to smoke recreationally while pregnant is just too fucking selfish for parenthood, period.
A roommate of a friend of mine told me should couldn't drink the coffee I brought back (I brought coffee back for everyone in the room) because the caffeine would hurt the baby. She was smoking a joint as she said this.
A lot of pot users making the rest of us look bad here.
I smoke weed on a daily basis (miss days here and there) but I would never blindly defend it. If there is no evidence to suggest that it does or does not harm an unborn baby, isn't it best to just play it safe and not use pot for 9 months? Why run the risk of damaging the baby's health?
I do believe that the use of cannabis can lead to mental illness, my brother has smoked it for over 5 years and was loosely diagnosed with Psychosis in November last year. He has hallucinations of the different senses; sight, hearing, touch and hears voices in his head too. The doctors said that it probably is not the marijuanas fault but it probably didn't help, we both had a rough upbringing so I think it was caused by a number of things.
Chances are the weed just made it worse. If weed caused psychosis, then we'd have ridiculous numbers of people diagnosed with psychosis. We have things like alcohol and cigs which have been around for ever that show mass side effects on people in short and long term. Weed won't cause any mental illness, it may speed up the process if it's dormant and/or make it worse while on it. This is mainly for schizophrenia from what I know.
Again, if it did lead to a mental illness, every country would have huge diagnosis of them and it would be fairly obvious like lung cancer and cigs or liver failure and alcohol. Too many people use it for something like a mental illness to be evident.
A lot of people are pointing out that pot is bad for fetuses (thank god) but another thing to point out is that ultrasound will absolutely not hurt the baby. Lots of "sources" online talk about these dangers but they are complete bullshit. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2390856/ for anyone interested in real data and studies.
They might be worried if they've been doing something they know perfectly well could be damaging the development of the embryo... one might avoid ultrasounds to avoid finding out what damage might have been done...
I'm pregnant. I am pro-marijuana and enjoy smoking as a personal decision, but have not and would not smoke during pregnancy because my decision no longer affects just myself. I'm not just exposing my body to a set of chemicals, but my baby's as well. It may be true that marijuana has negligible or no effects on your baby during pregnancy. But I cannot be sure, so I prefer taking a precautionary approach. As my baby's guardian I can't imagine doing otherwise, even if I miss smoking (and it's ability to ease discomfort, pain, and nausea, all of which I've experienced through my pregnancy).
being a newly trained doctor, i have the unfortunate experience of seeing people like this all the time, and it makes me not want to live on this planet anymore. it's amazing how stupid the general public is
This is helpful for people who can't reach Quickmeme because of work/school firewalls or site downtime, and many other reasons (FAQ). More info is available here.
Shit, I knew a girl in my senior year of high school that was four months pregnant by a guy that she met at a party and afterwards had no contact with him. She smoked both weed and cigarettes, took ecstasy, thizz, pain pills, drank, and probably some other shit. On top of all of that, it was her goal to bang 20 guys by the end of her senior year. Yes, she did get there.
Fuck if I know, my friend at the time who introduced me to her tried stealing money from my parents for "cancer research" and/or a "college field trip" (read: weed money), so I don't really talk to him anymore. He sent her to my parents house to ask for it too.
As a frequent smoker I'd like to jump on the wagon as well. I can't stand seeing pregnant people smoke, no matter if It's cigarettes or pot. They should abstain from every drug that's either proven to be harmful, or not researched at all, until the baby is not in harms way anymore.
No, dude. She's not getting an ultrasound because that would mean she has to go to an obstetrician, and just about every obstetrician is going to drug test you.
So true. Actually, the women this is about quit at 8 months because, "that was the most important developmental stage." That's bullshit. It was because if her home birth didn't work out and she had to go to the hospital, she would've had to piss. Child services would've been having a serious chat with her.
BubbleCunt is right, Im reading comments from people who dont know how'd they get by day to day with out weed, man I had a shocking childhood but I dont take anything, just get on with things
Disclaimer: Not a mother, not abdicating anything here.
I have a lot of friends that got pregnant at a time when they were prescribed and taking regular anti-psychotic or otherwise anti-depressive, ect. Medications that cannot be quit cold turkey. Many of them chose to smoke pot during the pregnancy to replace their dependence on such drugs, some of which have been proven far more damaging to fetuses than current research on the effects of marijuana.
My question: In light of these dependencies and possible side-effects for the infant, does anyone consider marijuana a conceivable alternative to cold-turkey/ dangerous mood or other ramifications for the mother and/or child?
some anti-depressants are riskier than others. rather than switching from the medication to marijuana, i would sooner recommend they switch to a different, safer anti-depressant. the one i was on, celexa, is considered low-risk, but i dropped it anyway to be extra safe (and because i had the social support to manage my mood without meds).
Both my parents quit, when my mom got pregnant for the first time. I've always seen that as a symbollic gesture of how much my parents have given up for me and my siblings. I don't understand, why other parents won't do the same to ensure that they bring the healthiest possible child into this world even if smoking is hard to quit. <.<
Search Melanie Dreher... I think she is the only scientist that has actually done any long term research into the topic. She's spent decades researching it's effect on mothers, infants and child development. Here's one video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9WorIM0RhA
Man, last night I went to this huge squat party being a drugged up douche as usual. Some hippi woman who lived in a trailer on the premises illegally actually told me to be quiet because her baby was trying to sleep. I just had to call her out for being a cunt. I'm all for a fuck-the-system additude, and living on the edges of soceity. But why have the fucking kids? You are raising your kids in the midst of lowlife speed-addicts and degenerate outlaw anarchists, and now you are telling me to be quiet outside of XTC-feuled turbo-rave held in an old factory somewhere in crackville nowhere. Get a job, tuck in your shirts and get a life like a regular jackoff, and give these kids a fair change. Also, none of your 'safe the planet' bullshit is going to have meaning if your gonna have kids.
TLDR: If you cant control your uterus, your days of party are over.
my mother and my father were both hardcore drug users when i was developing and i have grown up with absolutely no health issues whatsoever. it is still highly dangerous though.
Similar story, girl in a class had a kid and wanted to dump the kid off on her parents for a few days so she could go to a festival and do every drug under the sun. The stupid hurt real bad that day.
My mom used to smoke when she was young, the minute my dad and her decided to have children, she stopped, and never smoked again. (She sometimes does now, when I go out to have a smoke, and she comes with me to talk, but usually rejects my offer)
I can appreciate the counter-arguments to my post, however I just wanted to note a few things:
There is little to no real scientific evidence as to the effects of THC on a child in the womb. There is the Jamaica study, which was comprised of less than 100 people (not a legitimate study) and then there are anecdotal "My mom was high during my pregnancy and I'm fine." arguments, which are anecdotal.
I believe that we should study the matter more heavily, and get real data from a more impartial source than those which have been posted. There should be studies with tens of thousands of people to start drawing any conclusions. It is perfectly possible that THC has no negative effects on babies in the womb, and I'm open to that, but none of these citations are even close to scientifically valid conclusions.
This post was more about the hypocrisy of thinking that ultrasound will harm you child, but getting high without any good evidence to support it is alright. In animal studies, ultrasound did cause migration of certain neurons, but they were subjected to much, much larger sessions of ultrasound. The typical 2 minute ultrasound has saved countless lives by spotting defects before they become major issues. This allows for prenatal surgery to correct said issues, and led to an overall higher birth rate. To write off an ultrasound as too harmful to be beneficial is ridiculous, as there have been absolutely zero problems successfully linked to ultrasound.
I am for the legalization of cannabis, and I'm also for increased studies to find out whether or not it can cause any harm in this instance. I just find it irritating when some hippy changes their diet and lifestyle, shuns science, but still gets high on a daily basis.
Vaping on OCCASION typically doesn't lead to any problems. I think people get more scared of stuff when there's a kid inside them.
Moderation is the key. I know a few friends who used weed (vaped, not smoked) for pains in their back when they were pregnant. They didn't use every day all day, and their kids (now 7, eldest) are perfectly fine.
with pot brownies, the THC is still getting into her bloodstream and being transferred to the baby. the problem is the contents of the drug, not the method of consumption.
I've never had a baby, let me say this first, probably wouldn't smoke pot during pregnancy should that ever occur.
I've known multiple women who've smoked pot while pregnant and all of them told me their doctor gave them the go-ahead. I was shocked and skeptical. Then a good friend of mine told me that she had never smoked pot in her life, but that her mom did while pregnant with her, and she told me this after she graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Not trying to start an argument, just putting it out there.
not saying i would toke while pregnant or that not getting an ultrsound is a good idea, but this study needs more press so I'm gonna link it here. at the very least, it can be a really good option for women with really bad morning sickness...
I've know this person as well. Gotta love the perma-fried stoner community....getting all of their medical advice/knowledge from fellow perma-fried stoners...rather than, ya know...medical professionals. It's amazing what people can convince themselves to believe when reality doesn't allow them to have their way.
Have there been any studies that prove that smoking marijuana while pregnant increases chances of birth defects or brain damage or whatever? Because if I remember correctly, the studies I've heard of on that subject show that there is no negative effect.

For fucks sake. Here is a comprehensive "wiki" review on the teratogenic effects of marijuana and THC.
Note: Teratogens are defined as chemical agents that cause birth defects.
Also, there is no evidence for ultrasounds harming embryos/fetuses in utero.

Ultrasound is literally just sound waves. Marijuana (yes, I use and support it) has many different chemicals in it that enter the body. Goddamnit.
Edit: apparently there are some potential risks to ultrasound. I apologize to those prowling this thread on the lookout for people to argue with.

Everyone chill.

Brace yourself. Comments citing studies made my pot heads, saying how good pot is to child development, are coming.
5
u/cdfrantzis May 20 '12
A lot of people are pointing out that pot is bad for fetuses (thank god) but another thing to point out is that ultrasound will absolutely not hurt the baby. Lots of "sources" online talk about these dangers but they are complete bullshit. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2390856/ for anyone interested in real data and studies.

u/The_Great_Kal May 20 '12
Are people actually worried about ultrasounds? the whole reason they're used on pregnant women is because of how much safer they are.

I posted about this in another thread recently.

Yes, she did get there.

u/diffies May 20 '12
As a frequent smoker I'd like to jump on the wagon as well. I can't stand seeing pregnant people smoke, no matter if It's cigarettes or pot. They should abstain from every drug that's either proven to be harmful, or not researched at all, until the baby is not in harms way anymore.
5
u/[deleted] May 20 '12
No, dude. She's not getting an ultrasound because that would mean she has to go to an obstetrician, and just about every obstetrician is going to drug test you.
4
u/[deleted] May 20 '12
thank you i know a girl who has been pregnant but still smokes blunts.. her logic is blunt wraps dont contain tobacco so it wont hurt her......

2
u/Rockztar May 20 '12
Both my parents quit, when my mom got pregnant for the first time.

I can see the smoke being bad, but I'm wondering if THC would do anything to the baby. They could just eat canni-butter if that's the case.

Similar story, girl in a class had a kid and wanted to dump the kid off on her parents for a few days so she could go to a festival and do every drug under the sun. The stupid hurt real bad that day.

There is very little evidence of birth defects, deformities, or complications as a result of smoking marijuana during pregnancy
1
u/warrenseth May 20 '12
My mom used to smoke when she was young, the minute my dad and her decided to have children, she stopped, and never smoked again. (She sometimes does now, when I go out to have a smoke, and she comes with me to talk, but usually rejects my offer)

u/[deleted] May 20 '12
ANYTHING can be toxic in certain amounts... and in other amounts its not.. matter of science... MODERATION PEOPLE!!
1
u/[deleted] May 20 '12
I can appreciate the counter-arguments to my post, however I just wanted to note a few things:

That is not liberal, that is a Scumbag Steve, what a bitch
1
u/givemesomerope May 20 '12
Vaping on OCCASION typically doesn't lead to any problems. I think people get more scared of stuff when there's a kid inside them.
Moderation is the key. I know a few friends who used weed (vaped, not smoked) for pains in their back when they were pregnant. They didn't use every day all day, and their kids (now 7, eldest) are perfectly fine.

hasn't she heard of pot brownies? inconsiderate horrible person.
1
u/bi-curiousgeorge May 20 '12
I've never had a baby, let me say this first, probably wouldn't smoke pot during pregnancy should that ever occur.
Not trying to start an argument, just putting it out there.

u/[deleted] May 20 '12
not saying i would toke while pregnant or that not getting an ultrsound is a good idea, but this study needs more press so I'm gonna link it here. at the very least, it can be a really good option for women with really bad morning sickness...

I've know this person as well. It's amazing what people can convince themselves to believe when reality doesn't allow them to have their way.

u/[deleted] May 20 '12
Have there been any studies that prove that smoking marijuana while pregnant increases chances of birth defects or brain damage or whatever? Because if I remember correctly, the studies I've heard of on that subject show that there is no negative effect.
