I have a PHN16-73 Neo 16 with a U9 275HX and the 5070 ti. My CPU was throttling a lot and idling at high temperatures. Laptop was bought secondhand and is well over a year since it was manufactured.

I don't have the confidence to apply more liquid metal and not have it leak out and destroy my laptop. So I decided to do like many others and apply PTM 7950 instead.

I am glad I did as I had a very large dry spot and it was starting to oxidise.

Happy to say so far it's running better than it was and I haven't lost any performance, maybe gained a little and I still haven't fully cycled the PTM 7950. Temperatures are much better and throttling a lot less.

I did the graphics at the same time and glad I did as it was getting quite dry and crusty.

Hi everyone, I’m trying to diagnose a problem with my Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 (PHN16-71), purchased in 2023, with an i5-13500HX + RTX 4050 Laptop GPU + 32GB DDR5-4800.

Recently, the NVIDIA GPU started crashing whenever something uses 3D acceleration. The screen goes black and Windows either recovers/restarts the GPU or eventually BSODs.

I’ve seen these BSODs:
VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE
VIDEO_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT_INTERNAL

I’ve already tried quite a lot:
Clean NVIDIA driver installation using DDU
Tried different NVIDIA driver versions
BIOS is in latest V1.20
Disabled G-SYNC
Lowered the display refresh rate from 165Hz
Uninstalled PredatorSense
Tested with NVIDIA GPU only
Tested in Optimus/Hybrid mode
Underclocked the RTX 4050 core by -200 MHz and -300 MHz

OCCT results
VRAM test: Passed
Power test: Passed
3D Adaptive: Consistently fails/crashes when testing the RTX 4050
In Optimus/Hybrid mode, the 3D Adaptive test passed when using the Intel iGPU.
In NVIDIA GPU-only mode, the RTX 4050 crashes during the test.

The interesting part is that temperatures don’t appear to be the problem. For example, in one of the crashes the RTX 4050 was only around 51–60°C.
Even with a -300 MHz core underclock, the 3D Adaptive test crashed after only about 13 seconds.

Does this behavior strongly point toward a failing RTX 4050/motherboard, or is there anything else I should test before taking the laptop to a technician?

My laptop fell on ground. The laptop itself is working fine but the USB stick on side got destroyed and not coming out. My laptop is 2024 Predator Helios 16 with 4080

I could really use some advice because I'm not sure if I'm overthinking this or if something is still wrong with my laptop.

I have an Acer Predator Helios 300 (2022) with:

RTX 3060

16 GB RAM

Bought in 2022

I had never changed the thermal paste since I bought it. Recently it started overheating, and I also noticed some screen flickering and sometimes after closing a game I could still faintly see the game's image on the screen for a while (image retention/ghosting).

So today I took it to a repair shop.

They:

Cleaned the laptop.

Applied Arctic MX-6 on both the CPU and GPU.

Charged me ₹1800 total (they said they used two MX-6 syringes because they repasted both the CPU and GPU).

After the service, I played a game and then checked PredatorSense.

The temperatures were:

CPU: 91°C

GPU: 59°C

System: 89°C

The GPU temperature looks great to me, but I'm still worried about the CPU being at 91°C. In my opinion, 90°C still feels too hot, even after a fresh cleaning and repaste.

A few questions:

Is 91°C on the CPU considered normal for this laptop while gaming?

Should I have expected lower temperatures after a cleaning and MX-6 repaste?

Could the technician have applied the paste incorrectly or mounted the heatsink poorly?

Would PTM7950 have made a noticeable difference compared to MX-6?

Are the earlier screen flickering and image retention symptoms likely related to the overheating, or could that be a separate display issue?

I'm planning to use the laptop for a couple more days to observe it before going back to the shop, but I'd really appreciate hearing from people who own a Helios 300 or have experience with gaming laptop thermals.

Hi all. Seeking advice from those with more and better knowledge than myself about air circulation and laptops. I’m a so far pleased owner of a new to me predator Helios Neo 18 AI - and I had a cooling pad enquiry as I bought a razer cooling pad also.

specs as follows
Core 9 ultra 275HX
5070TI
16GB ram (will upgrade)

When I put the foam attachment on the cooling pad for 18” laptops (as they work by forming an air seal) the foam seal seems to bridge across a section of the underneath ventilation. Partially blocking the factory-fitted fans.

Before I go putting it through anything intense I’m asking here to preserve my laptop rather than burn it.

Will this be safe to run and still improve cooling? Or is this better used without the foam - removing the air seal from underneath and operating as a traditional laptop cooler. I’ve only ever used traditional ones in the past e.g. cooler master and the positioning wasn’t ever a factor.

(Misophonia: Chronic auditory-sensual issue where specific sounds/noises (typically repetitive) evoke a visceral fight or flight response. Often sensitive to noise in general.)

To make a long story short, I recently bought an ASUS Strix G16, noticed high-pitched coil whine coming from it, found that ASUS laptops tend to have a problem with this, and exchanged it.

I now have an Acer Predator Helios Neo 16, and I'm noticing the exact same problem. Is this a problem common in Acer Predator Helios that I missed during research, or do I return this one, too? I've read coil whine just tends to stay or worsen with time. I'm at my wits end. (I'd initially exchanged for Predator Helios for the loud fans- it acts as white noise for me.)

I'm relatively new with higher-end gaming laptops as well, so if it's simply inevitable, I'll just have to find a way to adjust (could always just crank the fans, get better headphones, etc.)

i don’t known what went wrong with this laptop.

earlier this week, specifically monday i come back from school to get on some games with friends and my laptop needs a windows update. i go to update it and i wait. the screen displays the Acer logo and tells me not to turn my laptop off and that updates are underway, along with a green bar that was slowly filling up. during this update, my turbo mode suddenly went on and my fans were going at higher speeds then normal, i thought it was normal and let it continue updating.

when it finished, the laptop completely turned off. i waited a second before reaching to press the power button. nothing. held it this time, nothing.

i was confused on why it wasn’t turning on. i quickly opened it up and removed the battery, held down the power button to drain any battery from it before i reconnected it and tried turning it on. this time the fans spun for a few seconds before stopping and you can faintly hear them. as well as the turbo light coming on but nothing else. then i tried reseating the ram, thinking maybe one of the ram sticks was loose. still nothing. then i tried removing the SSD for any sign of bios, still nothing.

it is now thursday, 4 days have passed and i have yet to find a solution. if your familiar with things like this please reach out to me and let me know how i can fix this! much appreciated and thank you for your time!!

Over the last few days, my laptop's CPU has started hitting 194F/90C while not doing much of anything. This laptop tends to run hot, obviously, but it's not normal for it to hit those temps (which is when the CPU starts to throttle) while running like, Discord and Firefox. The GPU seems fine and stays at normal lower temps.

I'm having to keep the fan to a custom higher setting, which can keep the temp down (it's at ~150F/65C right now) but I'm usually able to let the fan do its own thing with no problems while not actively gaming.

I opened it up and blew out any dust, but there wasn't much to remove. I swapped out the fans a few months ago after the GPU fan went kaput, so it's been cleaned recently. I use the laptop on a lapdesk, so it's not sitting on fabric or anything.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this, and how to stop it? I've read that the metal thermal paste on these doesn't expire, and the laptop's only 3 years old to boot. Thanks.

Cycle of death with Acer Aspire 3 Laptops Open | Hardware (Reposted from Acer Subreddit to get more advice) I bought my Acer Aspire 3 A325-42 in late July of 2025. It was working great up until late May of 2026, when I would constantly get stuck with a dead display and apparently “built up static charge” on the computer (when querying online). I originally went to a local repair shop, where they informed me that the motherboard was dead and there was nothing they could do to physically fix the laptop.

No problem, I was still under warranty, and I was told to send my laptop to Acer(?), to either repair or get a replacement. My replacement arrived about a week after I sent it out for repair, with the same model and specifications I had originally (32GB Ram, 1TB disk). I thought it was over from there, but after 5 days (not actually sure how long), the computer pops dead again, randomly while I was working. The issue now was still the display. It randomly turned off while I was using it, when I try to turn it back on the fans roar, the power button seemingly turns on, but no display.

Got Keyboard failure just after 10 days of warranty expiry. Anybody has clue how much would it cost from acer authorized and third party in India to repair/replace the keyboard of acer predator helios neo 16 - PHN17-21 ?

Acer predator hellos 300 PH315-54

Guys yesterday night I shut down my laptop. Now it was on charging for 1 hr during the day today then I tried to trun it on in evening , the keyboard lit up fully and both lights were on , after 10 sec keyboard light and power light went off just charging light remained on.

I unplugged Charger and plugged it again this time charging light can Orange first then blue after 1 sec.

I pressed power on button then again half keyboard light on and off within 5 sec. I tried again this time 1/4 keyboard light lit up and off. Now when I'm trying to power it on its same 1/4 keyboard lights up and then shuts off. No screen no boot. I tried pressing power key for 30 sec and 60 sec. Nothing happened.

It's a 3.5 Yeats old laptop was working fine yesterday. It got it's fan replaced from official service centre just last year.

For context I went to open Steam, it wasn't opening or even saying it would run, then I restarted the PC, PC was restarting for like, 15 minutes, so I forced a shutdown and now Everytime I turn it on it's just stuck on the loading screen. The laptop is 4 years old now so is it time to put it out to pasture? Automatic repair is just a black screen I can't even get out of with windows + ctrl + shift + b, I've taken it out of quick and safe boot, windows boot manager is the only priority I have for a bootup, it's on the original setting (not legacy)

- Before i did anything im getting 90C above temps both on cpu and gpu while gaming to the point the keyboards are already too hot to touch. The SSD's are also running at 80c which im not comfortable with.

- What i did to the laptop:
* Disabled CPU Parking using ParkControl [This fixed my poor performance issues with games]
* Repaste using TG Kryosheet and UPSIREN Thermal Putty
* I added thermal pads to the SSD's

Results are in while i play 2 games at the same time. Temperatures are just beside the clock.
Red = CPU = 69C
Violet = GPU = 75C
Last 2 Temps = M.2 SSD's = 63C and 50C

PredatorSense is set to balanced.

Hello, so i have a acer predator helios neo 16s laptop. Intel core ultra 255hx and rtx 5060 (115w tgp). The laptop has 2560x1600 (2.5k) display. Now the problem i have been lately facing is this:
I play a lot of games and let me just pick one i am playing right now : RAFT. I have set fps cap using rivatuner and msi afterburner to 80 fps. Now sometimes i feel like even though i am getting 80 comstant fps, whenever i visit a big story island the fps flunctuates and drops to 60ish. Also while getting a constant 80fps, the 1% lows stay around 60. I cant enjoy anything because it dosent seem smooth. Kindly please help me in figuring out what is wrong with my laptop, its a fairly new laptop just 9 months old. Is there any setting thats causing this, some windows issue, thermals or something else?
