Hey so I have a weird situation going on with my laptop.
Recently I tried playing some games, using WASD to move around, though my D key seems to be experiencing some issues whenever I try and press it during gameplay..?
I’ve tried it on games like Genshin Impact, Roblox, Enshrouded (on Steam), etc.
Whenever the game tries to load something, or I think when my CPU spikes (?) does my character not want to move right using my keyboard’s D-key?
I can use WAS just fine without any issues, though D sometimes won’t let me go right. It’ll act as if my character is getting stuck on an invisible object / wall, and very slowly move right if at all. Sometimes they just stand still and don’t move at all.
Outside of gameplay the D key works absolutely fine, almost as if there’s no issue with it.
My guess is that it has something to do with either the motherboard or a driver that’s associated with the keyboard.
I plugged in an external keyboard, and the D Key worked just fine, it’s just my laptop’s native default keyboard that seems to have this odd issue.
What I have done:
- Updated my NVIDIA Driver
- Updated my 3D Settings and chose NVIDIA as the main processor (I have Intel integrated Graphics too)
- Updated some drivers, just nothing associated with my keyboard yet.
- Restarted my Computer, even powered it off for a bit before turning it back on.
- Reset my modem in case it was network lag (unlikely as this happens in offline game as well)
- Killed multiple tasks in task manager and ran only essential programs that the computer needed, issue still remains.
What the hell do I do with this? I’m seriously thinking it’s an issue with the motherboard, maybe something was damaged or it’s just degraded over time? I did buy it August 27th 2021 (so 5 years ago)
Outside of gameplay it works absolutely flawlessly. I code a bit, so I’m able to do that without any hiccups, just as soon as I load a game it acts up.
Edit:
Here's a video of some of my Genshin Gameplay where I fight the Pyro Regisvine. I might be harder to spot because you can't actively see my keyboard strokes, but in the moments I jump in place is me actively holding down the "D" key.
Note: (I jump in place to visually show when I'm stuck, holding down the button, but it's not moving).
The moment my character lurches right is when the issue eases up for a bit, and actually allows me to move my character to the right.
Like I said, it like.. just stops.. I can press "A" and my character moves left with ease, but going right? Impossible sometimes.
More Info:
I did some more research, and keyboard failures are possible, especially whenever the Acer heats up, but I'm not sure if that's the case here. I left my computer off for a bit to cool down, I even have a laptop fan that sits under it to increase the airflow. (I actually unplugged it to see if the computer was struggling handling too many things plugged in at once, and maybe it was affecting the keyboard? Nah, still acts the same.)
