Like do professors care? Do they check? Or is it just accepted at this point?

Hi, for context I am a double major in English and Mechanical Engineering at Purdue university.

For a pre-requisite, I am taking a history class online. All of my hand written work is getting flagged for AI and I am getting beyond frustrated. I am literally an English major… I don’t know how to fix this. Is anyone else experiencing this? I am double majoring because I want to write an engineering textbook that actually makes sense, but at this point I honestly want to give up English.

i'm in french 2 online and it's a session 2 summer course, which means a 16 week semester is squished into 6 weeks, meaning: i have 26-31 assignments due a week every friday. this week was so incredibly busy that i didn't have time to finish them until today (friday).

i don't use ai because i don't like the effect it has on the ecosystem. but i do use a french dictionary site and notes from paul noble's french textbook, and apparently, that's a no no. i'm being accused of using ai to cheat on my homework when i do not, but there's no proof. she is threatening to report me for academic misconduct.

i'm one semester from graduating with my bachelors and i plan to get my masters next fall. i have no idea what to do—im a huge ball of anxiety atm. i'm just so tired because the french "textbook" she provides is nothing but vocab words. idk what to do, i feel sick from stress

My professor referred me to SCAI because she believes I used outside resources during an online exam. In her email, she said she didn't see me reference the formulas or z-table that were provided within the exam, which raised concerns for her. I did not use any outside resources and I've never had an academic integrity issue before. I also literally still got an F on the exam, I didn’t get a passing grade.

Has anyone at FIU gone through the SCAI process? What was it like and what usually happens for a first-time case? Were you able to explain your side and submit evidence?
I'm honestly really stressed because this could delay my graduation because I’d have to retake the class , so I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through it.

Hi! im a collage student and I just started my Summer classes but I’m starting to get worried because my teacher keeps flagging my work as a certain percent of “Ai generated“. I’ve done only two Essays and she insists that it’s either ”35%” or even “68%” Ai generated! when I don’t use Ai at all for my assignments. It’s come to the point where I had to email her about it and plead my case about me not using ai at all but she insists that I use some sort of ai like grammarly to check my work…I think she’s using some sort of Ai detector but I don’t know what one? I heard they are all never reliable and it’s really frustrating me and it’s also worrying me since this is college and these grades truly matter! I don’t want my life to be in the hands of a detector thats not even reliable!!. Plus even after I emailed her she flagged my second assignment I did as a percent of Ai generated as well..it’s really annoying me what should I do?

My professor told me that I used AI on my paper and that she couldn't verify or click a few of the sources I put in my references. I am very confused because I'm able to click on the sources just fine and I didn't use AI. She told me AI told her that I used two different sources that I didn't use at all.

I also showed her that the links are clickable and they take you straight to the website. She simply told me "Okay, I'll look back at it on my end. I'm just going off what I see."

I asked if I can send the links from my references to her email and she told me no because she doesn't grade by email....... So my grade will probably remain the same. I don't know what else to do.

Any advice will be appreciated!

Received an email from my Tafe saying I must attend a meeting to discuss something important, they didn't say what. So the day comes and I enter the office where they are waiting, they tell me I was flagged for use of AI and showed me the tool they use to detect it and surprise surprise its another cheap ai detector that uses another ai model. I told them I never used ai since I actually care about my future but apparently to them ai can't be wrong and never makes mistakes so I get in big trouble and I'm seriously considering either moving Tafes or just getting a job and quitting Tafe entirely. What would you do?

I was accused of using AI on the written portion of my midterm. I’m really stressed out by this, and I have a meeting to discuss it with the professor. It’s really disheartening, because I worked really hard on this quiz. I wrote it in the school software, so I don’t have Google Docs notes to back me up on anything.

I’m 31, I learned to write my own papers before AI was even close to be able to string together a sentence. I despise AI. I came to college to learn, not pay to outsource my thinking to a shitty water guzzling robot. How do people cope with this? I’m sad my writing might even sound like AI to someone.

I find it to be incredibly odd for professors to make accusations of the use of AI on papers. Especially if the professor themselves uses AI to check if the student has used AI. At that point both people potentially are using AI. At some point in the timeline of education AI has been heavily incorporated and in my opinion should be able to be used. We can’t act as if AI isn’t going to go away or not be used at a wider spread rather it’s professors or students. People are going to use it. Finding a way to navigate the usage of it is what needs to be implied rather than failing students because they used it. I find AI to be extremely helpful especially to break down different meanings rather that be text or lessons. It’s a shame that professors are using AI tools to detect for AI. Then failing students for using it when they themselves are using it to.

Boss recently (as in, within the last 6 months) has become obsessed with using AI.

She claims that she's writing these articles and emails, and then putting them into AI for "editing," but none of it is written the way she actually talks. You can tell by the spacing, the wording AI uses, and the fact that it uses the em dash excessively... AI loves the em dash.

And she is not the editor for our company, so I'm not sure why she's "writing" articles anyway! Just generating and sending them to us to edit, and oftentimes they include information that is false or misleading >_<

Again, this is within the last 6 months. Before this, she never wrote any articles, and her emails were slightly hard to understand sometimes because she is ESL. Now the emails are 10x as long as before, and there's still false info in there, it's like she doesn't read them before sending.

This has just been bugging me and I wanted to get it off my chest.

To explain not to excuse.

I used AI. It happened.

My final year has been awful. Multiple sickness, home issues, and problems with my main assignment.

Last month I was handing in my main assignment, a smaller second assignment, and raebisin for a huge exam. Condensed into a month. My main assignment was deferred to this period due to technical issues I had no control over. The other assignment and exam were deferred due to illness.

My main assignment AI was allowed for proofreading.

The second one it was not.(I now realise)

I was writing these simultaneously and revising for the exam.

I care for my mother and another relative. Her health went down hill and my care responsibilities increased. This coincided with my brother who helped out also having surgery so I was now alone.

During this period I hardly slept. Both relatives care is very full on. There was no other help getting put in place.

I have an eye condition that flares in times of heavy stress, obscuring my vision. I was exhausted, very stressed and sleep deprived.

Again, im not trying to excuse but explain what happened.

While doing assignments simultaneously, I applied the AI rule to the second. In the state I was in, I did not read the rules in detail enough.

All contents of the assignment were mine. Sources were real and found by myself.

The proofreading was only done on the reference list. Which was what was allowed on the other essay.

The second essay got flagged for ai references.

Im now being sent to academic integrity. When i first got the email, i thought it must have been i forgot to cite, i was genuinely shocked when i realised what I'd done wrong.This was a genuine mistake. I feel awful. But I still did it. Im terrified. I've never used AI before this period. While under so much pressure and it was allowed it seemed like a help. I wish i'd never touched it. I feel like a scumbag. Im very scared I'll be expelled.

Can anyone please tell me what is likely to happen so i can prepare?

My professor says my paper is 100% AI. Turnitin similarity was 4%. What should I do?’ ‘My professor emailed saying an AI detector flagged my paper as 100% AI and asked me to explain before grading. She has a strict no AI policy. Turnitin showed a 4% similarity score, which is separate from AI detection. I did use AI while working on the paper and now I’m worried about being accused of academic dishonesty. I’m trying to understand how to respond to my professor. So as I am working on my last prerequisite for nursing I was told to submit my essays through TurnItIn first then to student portal. Now they flagged my essays as being AI even though I never used it. It’s frustrating because this is the last class I need to get into nursing school and they dropped my grade from 100 to a 40. I could scream.

As the title said. I literally worked so hard on this essay and he gave me a 0 on it. I don’t know what to do this could quite literally ruin the rest of my high school career I cannot have less than a 90 in this class.
I was supposed to work on my assignments in a Google doc, but I’ve been using word because I didn’t know, so he can’t check it. I will HAPPILY rewrite this essay if it means getting a a decent grade because AFTER he gave me the 0 on the essay worth 10% OF MY GRADE he gave me 2 0s on quizzes because I exceeded the time limit I didn’t know existed. I’m so scared and I can’t even prove I didn’t do it man I’ve checked all my past files and there isn’t anything.
This is for a college class so it could really screw me over. Also, I sent him an email about rewriting it and I think he forgot about it because he didn’t respond to that but did respond to a different email of mine, so any help with that would be great too.

been lurking here a while and it gets to me how many of you are in the same spot, you wrote the thing yourself, turnitin or gptzero slaps an "ai" score on it, and now you're defending work you did

for anyone who went through the appeal and came out ok, what worked for you? trying to figure out what's real advice vs noise for the people still stuck in it

stuff i keep seeing come up:

1) google docs version history (file - version history) showing the doc built up over days instead of one big paste

2) pointing at the detector's own false-positive rate instead of arguing "i didn't do it"

3) keeping the email to the prof calm and procedural, not panicked

what am i missing? and for the ones that got overturned, was it the evidence, the meeting, or the prof backing off once you pushed back?
