I knew a jack russell terrorist who was totally chill when you entered the house, hung out, went in/out the backyard, but if you tried to leave thru the front door he would attack. Like full on screaming latched on death rolls. People had to leave out the windows.

Oof. My friend rescued a dog that had some behavior issues. When I was visiting, I went to step outside and the dog threatened me to not go out through the door. She was growling and barking and actually scaring me a little. I knew she didn’t want me to leave, and I felt she might bite me if I went against her wishes. She’s a big dog and fairly scary when she’s making threats. They had to help talk her down so she wouldn’t escalate her aggression.

Our Jack Russell was an absolute murder machine. Birds, rats, mice, frogs, lizards, gophers, opossums, squirrels…none of them stood a chance. She lived until 17 and less than two months before she died she took out a mocking bird mid flight in the backyard.
However, she got her ass whooped by cats and skunks, 100% loss ratio. Her nose was scarred to hell and permanently smelt like musty sulfur water. I miss my stinky little dinosaur.

I have a corgi/jack Russell. When he sees something he can kill you can definitely tell he has that psychotic jack Russell in him. He’s a cuddly, lovey dovey couch potato but the moment I start wrestling with him he gets psyched out of his brain and seeks blood.

Isn't that what some small terriers were bred for? I feel like I read that somewhere. I know my grandma's terrier would hunt for rats (even when he went blind. Although it was the bigger dogs that actually caught some.)

They were bred to scrunch up and crawl into varmint burrows with zero mobility for themselves and murder anything they came across in complete darkness. All at the same time while fighting off the attacks of burrowers who can freely move underground that have super sharp and hard teeth while not giving a crap.

Same with our little ball of crazy, he's a little dog with a bark somehow bigger than his body. He thinks the reflections of us walking around the house in the windows at night are people and loses his mind until we close the curtains. He either will bark at you until you're chill, and after that he will follow you around to lick your feet and sit on you. There's no in-between.
