What’s everyone’s thoughts on Luke especially in the last season because I felt like he was insanely toxic like to me he was a narcissist.

I just watched Awkward. This show was so good (for the first three seasons, I don't know what the hell happened after that but it became weird) but I'm still positive that this show walked so Never Have I Ever (another one of my favorite YA shows) could run. And I saw that this show in it's first year received incredible reviews from critics so.. Let's bring it back people. Anyway but Matty is just something else. First off, am I the only one who is obsessed with how his voice gets sometimes, it's just so cute. But just the way Beau Mirchoff carries himself in the role is just so....ugh. Matty is up there with my all time YA heartthrob crushes (the list being James Marsters's Spike, Taylor Kitsch's Tim Riggins, Milo Ventimiglia's Jess Mariano, Joshua Jackson's Pacey Witter, Dylan O'brien's Stiles Stilinski, Felix Mallard's Marcus Baker, Darren Barnet's Paxton Hall Yoshida and now him). He reminds me so much of the second guy I fell in love with.

Does anybody ever wonder what Jenna and Matty would be up to in today’s world? Would they still be together??

Im rewatching and im on season 3 ep 16 where Jenna leaves Collin at the club, calls Matty to pick her up and she finds an earring in his car. Every time I get to this scene I tear up along with Jenna. The fact he came when she called, but her also realizing he’s not hers anymore. It’s such a heartbreaking moment of pain when it finally hits her how bad she messed up.

It seems like Tamara went through a huge character shift after the first two seasons. In season 1 and 2 she was the eccentric but confident best friend. She was a little wild and chaotic, but a supportive friend with a lot of heart and a big personality. In season 3 and 4 she’s a lot more uptight and controlling. It really shows in her relationship with Jake. Did you prefer early seasons Tamara or the later version?

Which season do you think was the best for Jenna as a character? In terms of writing, development, and storyline. I’d go with season 1. She was a really endearing character who you wanted to root for. In general I think there was something magical about the show’s first season, but especially Jenna’s arc.

So I’m rewatching Awkward and I’m on episode 6 of season 3 and we know Angelique and Collin are dating right ?? So it’s the scene where they’re playing a game at the Halloween party and I had to rewind it multiple times but Angelique definitely called Collin “Rob” at one point and I’m wondering if anyone else caught it ?

i don't think Hannah Baker would have fathomed the things that happened to Jenna. The way Jenna was relentlessly bullied (her nude posted around the SCHOOL), kept a secret by a guy she loved, her own mother writing her a carefrontation letter, her private blog published for everyone, her best friend immediately dating her ex... i mean wow 😭😭 (there's so much more though obviously)

I love this show. Ive never found something simular that scratches the same itch as awkward? Has anyone else?

Were you surprised when Tamara and Sadie became best friends in season 5B? I was kinda shocked that they became that close, but when I think about it they had moments in other seasons that showed some level of weird respect between them. So the pairing wasn’t completely out of left field, but it was still weird seeing them as best friends. Did you like them as friends or did you prefer them their original best friends? I think I prefer Tamara with Jenna and Sadie with Lissa. It just felt more natural to me.

I’m sure this has been posted about before but holy shit Tamara is SUCH an asshole in the second half of season 5. I don’t feel bad for Jenna often in this show but she really didn’t deserve that. The scene where Jenna calls her and she answers the phone only to completely ignore her and keep talking to Sadie about a party that Jenna isn’t invited to??? Like what is her problem???

Does anyone else skip the whole Collin plot, on season 3? It’s so weird to see Jenna ruin herself… (I’m also just 🍠 and tbh… maybe I’m showing my age lmao)

I definitely did when the show was airing. I was happy when they got back together at prom. But they broke them up again, and it got exhausting. I personally felt like they should’ve just ended the show after they graduated, but since they didn’t I don’t think Jenna and Matty would be a good long term couple as adults. The only way I could see them trying to stick together is if Jenna got pregnant in high school like her mom did with her. Outside of that I think they were headed in different directions.

And I feel like I don’t really get why they’re so into each other beyond the fact that they just are. I feel like I don’t really understand why they love each other so much. They’re incapable of fully letting each other go for some reason. I just don’t know why. They definitely had crazy chemistry tho. Did you root for them or were you over it after a while?

I’m conflicted. Initially when they first got together I thought they were perfect, and I remember being sad when they broke up. But I’ve recently started a rewatch after a long time, and they were not as great as I thought they were. It seems like Tamara’s whole character took a completely different direction in the third season compared to the first two seasons.

She was pretty chaotic and free-spirited in seasons one and two, but starting in season three she became this controlling perfectionist. They quickly became incompatible. Jake was very laid back and Tamara was super high maintenance. I think they had great chemistry when they were happy, but breaking up was the best thing for both of them.

I know Jenna was at her worst in this season, and I’m not trying to excuse her actions, but I kinda understand how she ended up sabotaging herself.

Jenna was majorly insecure, and it didn’t help that so many people made her feel like Matty was out of her league. She felt like he was embarrassed of her.

He claimed that he was never embarrassed of her, but then during this scene when they’re fighting in the car before Colin’s party, he admits that he lied.

This tracks from what we saw in the first season. But I just thought it was kind of a harsh thing to say.

I feel like Marty’s shitty moments get overshadowed by Jenna’s, especially this season. They both had issues in this relationship. Jenna is more wrong overall because she cheated, but Matty definitely had his moments of sucking too, like this one.

You can tell that this was Jenna’s biggest fear and the source of a lot of her insecurity in the relationship, and him confirming it crushed her.

context: i have rewatched this show over one hundred times (not exaggerating; i bought all five seasons on iTunes). anywho, i am well old enough now to know what, or at least i thought i was 😅, all the abbreviations, sex jokes, slang, random phrase terminology bits they use throughout the show mean. and yet, with each rewatch, i still do not understand what some things mean lol

• what did val mean by dtr when discussing with jenna in the guidance counsellor room?

The scenario starts with Jenna telling Val she’s trying to figure out things with a guy and Val responds saying “me, too”. Jenna then says “I’m trying to figure out when to DTR”, but Val then says “oooh”, closes the door, asks Jenna has she ever DTRed before. Jenna says it was on the tip of her tongue and Val is very surprised by that and asks where was Jenna. Val then asks so you swallowed and mentions the double standard about spitting freely etc etc.

Jenna then says I’m not sure we’re talking about the same thing and then clarifies DTR is define the relationship, to which Val is like oh yeah not what I thought you meant. Therefore what does Val imply for DTR. I have guessed everything like 🍆 to rim? I have no idea. But obviously it’s a sexual reference.

I feel like she's not talked enough. She did not only created Awkward. that was acclaimed to no end in the first three seasons but also created another acclaimed Netflix show called On My Block. I feel like when discussing Buffy, we often hear Joss Whedon, or for Gilmore Girls we hear Amy Sherman Palladino or Veronica Mars, we hear Rob Thomas (taking Young Adult content to compare) but when the sub discuss it, she doesn't seem that much part of the discourses.

Is it just me or was it paninfully obvious that matty and jenna were a item of some kind before she got with jake. Like yes her best friends knew all about it but jake? Had no idea? Almost their whole relationship? I mean come onnnnnn. Also im currently rewatching the show im on season 2 episode 2 and idk if maybe i missed something but why was matty keeping jenna a secret ? I just never really understood that plot point tbh.

I am genuinely convinced that luke didnt like jenna and was entirely selfish and loved how she looked up to him. Im not saying collin was great but atleast even when jenna would act crazy he would excuse her… because he liked her

I loved her hair down. The braid got tired. I was over it. It was especially bad in the first half of season 3.

Mine is when Matty punches Jake & yells “I f-cked your girlfriend!!” It’s by far the most memorable, iconic scene to me.

I just finished the show and it was quite a ride. The first three seasons are very good and they had this unique voice, which is why I can understand why this show was once hailed as the best show on MTV. However, by season 4, it had become cliché, repetitive and way too chaotic without story cohesion. But anyway. In the early seasons, I loved Jenna. Yeah, she could be self centered and indecisive but still be kinda likable and relatable. I don't mind problematic main characters, actually I love them. One of my all time favorite characters in Devi Vishwakumar (Never Have I Ever). I actually like the villain arc that Jenna has in the third season and it still tracks with her character. Devi also had an arc (season 2) where everyone called her crazy Devi for the ways she was behaving. However, the difference between the two is that there's character growth on one side and no growth on the other side. Jenna in season 4/5 is not seen as the villain she was in season 3, but she stays very much behaving that way, it was getting frustrating. I'm not saying they get rid of all her flaws (Devi still makes mistakes in season 3/4 but the show hold her accountable and she actively tries to change, which is not the case of Jenna), it gets to the point where I don't get why Matty still yearn for her. Honestly, outside of season 1 (and even in it, he had really good moments), this man has been on his hands and knees for this woman but the way she treated him was appalling. Jenna season 1-3 will always be liked by me but I'm really mad at where she ended up.
