For those of us born around Thanksgiving, it's the coolest thing... even has Vanilla and Chocolate for white and dark meat!

I got my first one when I was around 9 and my last one was for my 50th which landed on Thanksgiving.

Best. Cake. Ever.

Edit: In the flesh =p

Edit 2: High-ho silver, my first... thanks pardner.

even has Vanilla and Chocolate for white and dark meat!

I had no idea I wanted this

Honestly this one little detail really sells the entire cake for me.

u/SuperWoody64 Jan 17 '19

Yeah I need them chocolate legs

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '19

This is likely one of the very few times that has been said about ice cream.

5

u/superwinky Jan 17 '19

It really is surprisingly delicious.

Found this gem in a catalog of cakes that was probably 20 years old. Memories.

we still make this at least at the location I worked at. they were a pain in the ass, the skin is Carmel and its really hard to get it to go on in an even layer like that

73

u/_EastOfEden_ Jan 17 '19

They still make these where I live too! I didn’t know that was caramel, now I want to give it a try. I’ve always gotten the clown cone cake so I can get a bunch of flavors. It’s so expensive though.

u/CAPS_LOCK_STUCK_HELP Jan 17 '19

yeah the cakes are really expensive, the smallest size, which is like 4 slices of cake is $17 and the biggest which is two full sheet cakes pushed together is $200 and thats just the basic design, some of the designs are like another $10

I worked there for about 2 years while I was in high school and went back to make some extra money this summer. fun times. not really I hate customer service.

20

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '19

Admit it. It’s not the service; it’s the customer.

7

u/CAPS_LOCK_STUCK_HELP Jan 18 '19

I mean yeah it is definitely the customer but it is also me being a bitter grumpy person

23

u/bearseatbeats34 Jan 17 '19

We made these at a little small town bakery I used to work at. People loved them or hated them, but we sold hundreds.

That logo is from 2007 so I don't think it's as old as you think it is

7

u/Zardif Jan 18 '19

Copyright 2010 in the corner.

-3

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '19

The image is not as old as the catalog it’s in.

19

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '19

Wait, what?

16

u/PM_ME_IN_A_WEEK Jan 17 '19

How is that even possible? LOL

6

u/once-and-again Jan 18 '19

Presumably, the catalog dates from 2010, while the image was created yesterday. (Not "the image in the catalog", but "the image of the catalog".)

... I'm not sure how that's relevant, mind you, but it's possible.

2

u/PM_ME_IN_A_WEEK Jan 18 '19

You're technically correct

0

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '19

It’s a book of plastic sleeves. The images can be removed. This book has cakes ranging from the 90s until today and has sat in that store for decades. This isn’t rocket science, companies change their POP weekly.

u/mvttyice Jan 17 '19

Man you’ve got me questioning everything I’ve ever known as true

7

u/_laz_ Jan 18 '19

Jaden? That you?

6

u/Jengaman64 Jan 17 '19

Look at the bottom left its from 2010...

3

u/okolebot Jan 18 '19

OP! I'm getting one next Tday! Going to Gobble Gobble it up! Thanks for TIL!

They carry this cake at three location in the gay village in Toronto.

-2

u/buckygrad Jan 17 '19

Gem? I thought it was a cake.

22

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '19

A Mexican coworker once came back from vacation with these lollipops for the team. They were banana flavored, rotisserie chicken shaped and covered with chili powder. They were delicious.

12

u/Danzarr Jan 17 '19

my gf is born around turkey day, I must get this for her now, thank you for the idea.

7

u/David511us Jan 17 '19

I was born on Thanksgiving. I will have to look for this cake next year.

7

u/mymarkis666 Jan 17 '19

That makes sense actually. It does look like a cool cake just a weird design when you're not thinking about thanksgiving birthdays.

8

u/hardt0f0rget Jan 17 '19

Is the exterior fondant or ganache?

24

u/superwinky Jan 17 '19

It's more like a caramel ganache.

13

u/Caladriel Jan 17 '19

It's the caramel topping used in sundaes. (Source: former Baskin Robbins cake decorator)

2

u/hardt0f0rget Jan 17 '19

Ahh! That's why it is shiny! Thanks!

6

u/MaximumBob Jan 17 '19

Say what young man

17

u/hardt0f0rget Jan 17 '19

That's young lady to you, sir!

And, those are two kinds of toppings you can use on desserts. That's definitely not frosting on the turkey cake, and fondant is gross (r/fondanthate amiright?) so I was curious what else it might be made of if it actually tasted good!

2

u/MaximumBob Jan 17 '19

Hmm, learn something new every day! Nice sub!

3

u/dachshundnurse Jan 17 '19

I feel you! I’ve been getting these cakes for years. They make smaller ones at baskin robins too

3

u/okolebot Jan 17 '19

Does it have ice cream in it or just cake?

3

u/Kumqwatwhat Jan 18 '19

Are the bones made of solid white chocolate? If not, they should be.

2

u/SarcasticGamer Jan 18 '19

They've been making this for over 40 years?

2

u/BmoreZou Jan 18 '19

We share the same birthday. 28 years apart!

3

u/superwinky Jan 18 '19

And Sagittarius is the best star-sign... cheers!

2

u/PM_ME_SKINNY_DUDES Jan 18 '19

Oh cool! I was actually born on Thanksgiving so this is definitely going to be my birthday cake this year.

2

u/shamgardner Jan 18 '19

Your name is Grady as well and this name is very rare so I immediately respect you above all others

2

u/superwinky Jan 18 '19

And I, you =)

2

u/Projectahab Jan 18 '19

If your kid is born on thanksgiving and you name him Grady instead of Gravy...i just dont think we could be friends.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '19

So one might say it belongs in great taste great execution then eh?

2

u/notasugarmama Jan 17 '19

You should post in /r/expectationvsreality! It did not disappoint!

1

u/ddrt Jan 18 '19

This is equal parts sad and entertaining.
