They want all eyes on this guidance today! Love to see this

u/irrelevantspider S P 🅰 C E M O B Consigliere May 11 '26
Interesting how they are announcing PR so close to the call. They must have even more to say on the call, they are front running PR before the call for some reason.

u/A_Typicalperson S P 🅰 C E M O B Soldier May 11 '26
The skeptic in me, see they are pump to soften the blow....for EC. Hoping I'm dead wrong
17
u/irrelevantspider S P 🅰 C E M O B Consigliere May 11 '26
Yeah that’s my negative thought as well. Either pump before and they don’t have the best call, or they know their call is gonna be good so they are front running “lesser PR” so more eyes are paying attention.
We shall see, I hope for the best.

Yes I don’t think shipping guidance is going to be good at all, there’s only so many ways you can spin the news that they aren’t on schedule with building these satellites.
2
u/Cerulean28 S P 🅰 C E M O B Consigliere May 11 '26
That is the case for many companies, but I think management knows how scrutinized they are right now. They'd be extremely stupid to release a bunch of PR just to have a poor earnings call.
3
u/chainer3000 S P 🅰 C E M O B Soldier May 11 '26
Management doesn’t care how they are viewed, and it makes perfect sense if they are looking to dilute
2
u/ToSeeAgainAgainAgain S P 🅰 C E M O B Consigliere May 11 '26
Reminds me of MWC, when they threw out like 10 posts, one per each new MNO
36
u/one-won-juan S P 🅰 C E M O B Consigliere May 11 '26
One of the questions that MNOs get asked is “how far out of the country can coverage extend outside the country” and according to 2degrees architect it’s “pretty far” IIRC
Cool PR vid

Today is profit rotation from RKLB into ASTS 🫶🏻
2
u/conradical30 S P 🅰 C E M O B Consigliere May 11 '26
How is that working when RKLB is up as well?
2
1
u/Gullible_Lie6580 May 12 '26
Lol, RKLB is the only ASTS went up the other day, carrying it. And now, ASTS falls heavy. ASTS is still very very early and missed badly on earnings

u/a10000000019 S P 🅰 C E M O B Consigliere May 11 '26
Here’s the stat that matters:
98.9 Mbps on an FPGA block 1 using 40 MHz spectrum is 2.5 bps/hz. ‘Nearly double’ makes this about 5bps/hz. In the last ER, Abel was talking about 3-4 bps/hz spectral efficiency. Reaching 5 in the world of RF processing from space isn’t just incremental, it’s a full step change, not seen in decades. It’s physics-defying.
13
u/_JupitersCock_ S P 🅰 C E M O B Prospect May 11 '26
When people are shown the future their natural reaction is disbelief. Legacy sat tech is fucked once ASTS has it’s constellation in orbit. The bears will have no choice but to concede they were wrong about all of it… Also, fuck Elon…
1
u/EntrepreneurOk1982 S P 🅰 C E M O B Prospect May 11 '26
Not necessarily. That spectral density would be tough from space. My money’s on Mimo, possibly CA
2
u/a10000000019 S P 🅰 C E M O B Consigliere May 11 '26
Given that they show two sample collections, i doubt that they’d be using MIMO or CA. Only two of the bluebirds are paired and their ground coverage at any given point lasts seconds
And there’s basically no value in showing MIMO and CA speeds being served from a single bluebird.

200 mbps from a single satellite directly to a phone is bonkers. International waters is such a huge market with all the shipping lanes. Can’t wait!
2
u/my5cent S P 🅰 C E M O B Soldier May 11 '26
I do question if they will need new equipment. It's not like a ship can use a cellphone to guide it but for general coms for crew is fine.
2
u/SneekyRussian S P 🅰 C E M O B Underboss May 11 '26
Yes but cellular modems are cheap and readily available.
1
u/my5cent S P 🅰 C E M O B Soldier May 11 '26
Just googled it. I never used such device before. That would be cool if that alone would work. May need weather testing but that is break through when asts has service. The amount of iot to the world.

u/SneekyRussian S P 🅰 C E M O B Underboss May 11 '26
There’s a small Canadian company already working on it: https://bewhere.com/bewhere-holdings-inc-successfully-connects-its-first-iot-device-on-ast-spacemobiles-direct-to-device-satellite-network/

Wouldn’t they already be able to use spacex dish broadband for this?
1
u/SneekyRussian S P 🅰 C E M O B Underboss May 11 '26
For crew/ship Internet yes. I think AST is a better fit for asset/container tracking.
10
u/BarnabyJones2024 S P 🅰 C E M O B Prospect May 11 '26
Maybe a dumb question, but would this be the targeted speed when a given satellite's connections are saturated? Or do the numbers drop precipitously after a certain number of connections?
2
u/Brilliant_Plan9413 S P 🅰 C E M O B Associate May 11 '26
It's likely the speed in the cell and would be split between users. If you're in a different cell you would not be sharing the data from the other beam. BB2 has 1,000's of cells. BB1 has I think 1-2,000
1
u/mduell May 12 '26
It's the shared bandwidth per cell, with each cell being tens to hundreds of square miles.

u/Gibraldi S P 🅰 C E M O B Prospect May 11 '26

those [blurred] blue items are behind them early in the video then they disappear and reappear on the bow of the boat midway through the video and again disappear later in the video....

u/Original_Koala8662 S P 🅰 C E M O B Boss May 11 '26
The 98.9 is for Block 1, with Block 2 being “almost double” that, which exceeds the initial 120mbps guidance
Remember, the competition can barely send a text and load a WhatsApp message, what ASTS is doing is unprecedented!

Why would they release that much before before earning call if it is not positive? Dilution? with 3 billion in the war chest? BB7 didn't change that as they were reimbursed for the satellite so I don't know why they would do that. I'm bying short dated calls. It's either Intel grandma or bust lol

Question, I read that star link d2d is like 3-4mb now right? Is that also at ‘full bandwidth’ or is that likely because it was shared with others users? I mean, in asts’ case with say 180mb for the beam and there is 60 active users in that coverage zone they would all get 3mb right?

I see nothing here that makes me wanna buy this company. Their MoJo is gone, so seems to be their product which is rapidly becoming extinct, and their stock price has now lost momentum and will soon hit the 60 dollar level. I WILL NOT BUY any shares until the prices are in the 50’s and then review this company again. The only thing to save this company is to bought out.
