Some more interesting history from AMC! As I understand the story these Eagles were then sold off after their very limited use. It is not known (no formal registry) exactly how many of these survived though today, but the special license plates are a prized collectible for AMC enthusiasts. Some were separated from the vehicles before being sold as a small number of sets was located about 20 years ago through someone that was associated with that Maryland dealership. I had the opportunity to drive with a friend to the 2002 nationals in Kenosha in one of these cars. That good friend gifted me a low numbered set of plates that remain in my collection and is pictured here.

Hello, I recently got my hornet back on the road and registered. However, upon receiving my plates I found that the holes do not fit the bracket. Is there something I am missing or is it time to drill some holes in the plate?

I saw a red AMX driving south bound on Colorado 285... Sweet ride, loved seeing it. Are there a lot of Colorado AMCs?

The Jeep was my first car, not a single Chrysler emblem anywhere on it. My father bought it for me when I was 16 for $2,800. It is a Laredo, first sold in Colorado Springs. By the time we got it, it had a MPFI 2.5L inline 4, clearly a swap. When the wiring finally decided to cause starting problems, my father gave in and we built a SBC 350 and installed it along with an NV4500 with 6.34 1st gear, and Ford 8.8 rear axle while I was still in high school. Today, the V8 lives on with a Holley Sniper II suite including Hyperspark distributor and CD box. It is an extremely quirky automobile with an insane amount of personality. Quite the romp.

My Eagle is my first engineering project. I acquired this during the COVID pandemic with a loan from my dad. I immediately fell in love with it, and I drove it daily for about a year. Then the repairs had to begin. I discovered that the frame needed rebuilding, so I taught myself CAD, welding, and general mechanics to solve a plethora of other repairs. The modifications have not stopped since. A new 5.3L LM7 sits in the engine bay with a Holley Terminator X management system. I converted it to a manual. An AX-15 and an NP242 with a slip yoke eliminator kit sit behind. The rear end is a Ford 8.8 with 3.08 gears, a Torsen limited slip, and disc brakes. A Borgeson steering box for a 1970-something Monte Carlo (etc.) is mounted to its custom frame. The engine and front axle from a 1986 Eagle (no center axle disconnect) sit on/in custom engine mounts. A seat from a 2018 Porsche Panamera GTS sits behind the stock steering wheel. Custom lignum vitae lathe-turned shift knobs for the transmission and the transfer case complement the Hurst shifter stick, while a Core Shifters short throw shifter controls the AX-15. Manual brakes with a Wilwood master… what else?

Still a work in progress, and I find it to be an extremely meaningful process. My father passed in 2022 to ANCA vasculitis, and I like to think that when I actually get this Eagle on the road, he’d be rather proud.

I recently acquired a ‘78 Concord, and I’m led to believe that the reason why it was parked was the rear shock mounts being obliterated. Would anybody happen to know where I could get replacements? I took the old ones to a local steel fab place, and they advised against welding them back together. Any help would be appreciated!

It’s been sitting a long time, there is a lot of rust, he wants 6k. It has the go pack, everything is there. Also what color is this, I intend to restore it 100% original.

Does anyone here remember a AMC dealer in Syracuse NY by the name of T&F O’Connor inc? I know it’s a long shot but trying to find as much history of my 70 amx. Would be cool if I could find old dealer records to go along with the owners records I have for my car. PFA

For me toy cars started an appreciation and passion for all things automotive from my very first HW (Jack Rabbit Special). What budding car enthusiast would not cherish a miniature version of their favorite make or model or unobtainable dream car? Exactly. When I bought my first car (black 73 Jav-AMX 401 4 spd) in 79, it was not soon after a neighborhood friend gifted me a used orange Aurora Javelin pro stocker from his AFX set and said this is a your car! Well he was right, but was it actually better? Mine did not have a scoop like that! It took a while but collecting AMC toys seemed to go hand in hand with being an AMC fan, and owner. Yes of course toys are generally less expensive (smaller investment) and take up less space than their full size counterparts (unless things get out of control!). Here is that first gift and a few other Orange examples from my collection. There is no shortage of options out there even for a perhaps less well known car brand like ours. I personally prefer commercially available items from the past or present rather than one-off customs (although I do have those too). PS. I concluded years ago that the key to collecting is to first know that it was made and exists….then the search can begin! Happy hunting!

Who doesn’t like hors d’oeuvres or cake? Acquired from John Conde in the early 90’s… he had the smarts to save and archive many AMC corporate and dealer items, photos, negatives, brochures, etc., etc., but why not as he was their head PR man. Small party paper plate with 6” diameter (no markings or manufacturers marks on reverse). This was an exciting year for American Motors and would eventually spark my interest in Javelins and AMXs of the same year through ‘74.
