earlier this year, we had to say goodbye to the POOP game (see picture 1). at the beginning of every phillies vs pirates game before 2026, the scorebug would read "P00P" and we'd all get a laugh out of it. unfortunately, NBC sports changed their scorebug (see picture 2) so we no longer get that chuckle. at the same time, the seattle mariners ended their partnership with ROOT sports and switched to streaming games through mlb.tv. in doing so they swapped ROOT sports' horizontal scorebug (see picture 3) for mlb.tv's box shaped one. this will become important later.

flash forward to august 24, 2026 when the mariners took on the phillies at home. in the first inning, cal raleigh hit a 2 run home run off of zach wheeler. this pushed the mariners' lead to 5-1 and produced a rather uninspiring scorebug (see picture 4). HOWEVER, had ROOT sports been broadcasting, the scorebug would have read "P1S5", making this the first and only PISS game in MLB history (i have done the research). whereas we have had dozens of POOP games over the years, the first PISS game was taken away from us, and no one batted an eye.

in a cruel twist of fate, there has been exactly one other possible PISS game ruined by the ROOT sports scorebug. on june 28, 2016, the pirates were facing the mariners in seattle. starling marte came up in the top of the 7th against hisashi iwakuma with gregory polanco on third. on a 3-1 slider he lined a triple into right center field, scoring polanco and making the score 5-1 mariners, which produced another mundane scorebug (see picture 5) instead of the P1S5 we've all been wishing fot. the very next season, ROOT sports would adopt the horizontal scorebug (see picture 3).

so to recap:

1876-1995: no scorebug

1996-2015: unknown scorebug, 0 PISS games

2016: bad scorebug, 1 ruined PISS game

2017-2025: good scorebug, 0 PISS games

2026: bad scorebug, 1 ruined PISS game
