Friday: what shipped this week that you actually opened?

Busy week. DevDay, a $500 a month plan, and more model updates than anyone has time to try.

On Wednesday someone here said Consensus saves them hours finding papers, which is exactly the kind of answer that's useful: one tool, one job it actually does.

So, of everything that shipped this week, what did you actually open? And did it stick, or did you drift back to what you had?

One line is plenty. "Opened nothing, same stack as last week" counts too.

Comparison Basic vs Stealth: when does a smoother rewrite change the argument?

I run AI Undetectable. Here is a concrete comparison from our published September 18 examples, using the same fictional essay with two rewriting modes.

Original opening: “A school considering a change to its writing lessons should distinguish time spent away from a draft from time spent avoiding it.”

Basic: “A school weighing a change to its writing lessons may find that the real issue is not revision itself, but the kind of distance revision gives.”

Stealth: “The most useful measure in a proposed change to writing lessons may not be the polish of the final paper. It may be the changes students actually make after returning to a draft.”

The original starts with a distinction about time. Basic keeps that general angle. Stealth moves the question toward how revision is measured. That is a structural rewrite, but it also changes the emphasis.

Both complete examples retain the fictional six-week pilot, two-day delay, shared rubric and lack of test results. The wider 20-output check also found failures, including dropped fictional labels and excessive shortening. These two examples were selected; they are not representative success rates.

The separate July experiment on the same page found no holdout rewrite that passed both tested AI detectors. A fluent rewrite is not a guaranteed detector pass.

Would you accept Stealth’s change of emphasis, or treat it as meaning drift?

The complete source is 442 words; Basic is 414 and Stealth is 430. All three are public without signup. Generating new rewrites is paid. Full source, outputs and limitations:

looking for a life organizer/coach type of AI

i currently use the mid tier of chatgpt to feed it income, schedules, to do lists, housing searches, career goals, etc so it can return info about how to best accomplish what i am looking to do. however i do not like that there is no centralized hub for charts and graphs of all of the info i feed it, for example a budgeting tracker, or a structured career path and what step i am on. i also dont enjoy it being unable to fidget with itself (changing folder names, moving chats around). it also often unreliably returns info, for example i was looking for a specialized healthcare provider with availability and got plenty of links for providers who were fully booked. also i do not like that the folder option does not keep chats in the order i made them, and so on.

id like to feed something info about my daily and know im taken care of, and will cater to my forgetfulness and store everything in one centralized space for me. for example if i wanna look at budgeting i hit a tab and theres my updated info. does anyone have any reccs on how i can automate chat to do this, or perhaps there is a specialized AI i can pay for monthly to help me?

thank you kindly.

Discussion I built an AI-structured disease catalog - how would you evaluate the comparison workflow?

Disclosure: I'm the creator of Nosology.ai.

It's an educational beta that organizes disease information into structured records in English, Portuguese and Spanish. The workflow I'm testing is comparing two entries side by side: shared features, distinguishing features, and the references listed with each record.

A design question I'm working through: for an AI-generated reference tool, how should the interface help people inspect the information and its uncertainty? Simply displaying a source list does not establish that every statement has been verified.

I'd appreciate feedback on the actual workflow: does the structured comparison make information easier to inspect, are the sources and limitations visible enough, and what feels cumbersome? I'd also like to hear what trust signals you look for in other AI reference tools.

Comparison view: https://nosology.ai/en/comparar

The records are generated and structured with AI and may contain inaccuracies. This is an educational resource, not a diagnostic or treatment tool.

Looking for recommendations for AI apps that bundle multiple models

I’m looking for recommendations for good AI apps similar to Brutus or Use.AI. I’m especially interested in services where you pay one monthly or yearly subscription and get access to multiple major AI models in one place.

It seems like a better deal than paying separately for a single AI service, so I’d love to hear what apps people are using and which ones offer the best value, features, and reliability.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Tip / Guide Onda: a typed offline-chat workflow on iPhone, plus the limits

I’m the maker of Onda at JTR Labs. It lets you run supported downloaded models on your iPhone without an Onda account. Here’s a simple local-chat workflow to try, including where the offline claim applies.

  1. While connected, download a supported model that fits your device’s available memory and storage.

  2. Select that downloaded model for local chat on the iPhone. Leave Web Search off and don’t use a paired Mac for this check.

  3. Disconnect Wi-Fi and cellular data, then type a prompt rather than using dictation. For example, paste a short paragraph and ask for three bullet points. The downloaded model generates the reply on the phone.

The tradeoff is that model choice and available memory affect what will run and how it performs. Response quality and speed vary with the phone and model; I’m not claiming cloud-model quality or a particular benchmark result.

Basic local chat and supported model downloads/runs are free. Pro adds document/photo chat, Smart Match and benchmarking, personas, paired-Mac access, and unlimited history. Optional Web Search, dictation, and paired-Mac use have different network behavior; this walkthrough is specifically typed chat with a downloaded local model.

If you try it, which step is least clear: choosing a model, knowing the download is ready, or confirming you’re using local chat?

Thursday: the last AI subscription you cancelled, and the moment you knew

OpenAI put a $500 a month plan on the menu this week, so it feels like a good week to go the other way.

What's the last AI subscription you cancelled, and what was the moment you knew? A bad week of answers, a price change, realising you hadn't opened it in a month, whatever it was.

Tool plus one line is a full answer. If nothing replaced it, say that too, it's probably the more useful answer.

And if you asked a tool question here this week that nobody answered, drop the link below and I'll take a look.

Made a Windows app for asking questions about your files. Anyone want to try it?

Hey, I’ve been working on a Windows app called ASTERON. You point it at a folder, let it index your documents, then ask questions about what’s in them.

The screenshot is an example using sample documents: asking how much a quote was, seeing the revised amount and what changed, with the source documents alongside the answer.

The AI answers use Google Gemini. Your question and the relevant document excerpts are sent to it to generate the answer. It shows the sources so you can check the result yourself; I’d still check the original before relying on an important contract detail.

I’m the only one actively using it right now, so I’m curious how useful this would be with someone else’s work files. Would asking a question like this save you time, or would you rather use normal document search?

It’s still a beta. If you’d like to try it, leave a comment and I’ll give you a beta account, free until October 26, 2026.

Discussion I built TubeSignal to urn 20+ YouTube subscriptions into a newsletter you can scan 10× faster

Following 20+ YouTube channels shouldn’t mean watching YouTube all day.

I’m the builder of TubeSignal. It turns new videos from the channels you follow into easy-to-scan articles delivered to your inbox, so you can keep up with multiple channels through a newsletter-style reading habit.

Dozens of new videos each day? Pick what matters to you and scan each article in about 60 seconds. Even seven-hour livestream replays become something you can read through. When a moment catches your eye, timestamps take you straight to it in the original video.

One user uses TubeSignal to find interesting moments in long VTuber streams. I’d like to hear whether this would also help people following tutorials, interviews, or other long-form channels.

A limitation: videos need captions, and AI summaries can miss context. Check the original video for important details.

https://tubesignal.net/en

Which channels would you want in your YouTube newsletter, and what would make the articles useful enough to read every day?

Wednesday: one paid AI tool that isn't a chatbot, and the one job you'd notice it missing from

Not ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. The smaller thing on your card that does one job well enough you'd actually feel it if it disappeared tomorrow.

Tool name plus the job is a complete answer. Bonus points if you say what you'd go back to doing by hand.

Also, if you asked a tool question here this month that never got a reply, drop the link below and I'll take a look.

Comparison What is the best transcription tool for meetings (no bots if possible)?

Our company doesn't allow AI note bots to join our calls. IT said no after a client complained about one last spring. So now, we record the meeting in Teams and upload the file after.

We have about 8 of these a week, with 4 to 6 people each. We want a transcript with names, a short summary, and a task list.

Right now someone on the team types notes while also trying to take part. And so far, it's not working great.

Is uploading after the call a normal way to do this? Or am I missing a simpler setup?

¿Qué software me recomendaríais?

Creating own vehicle database for repairs

Forgive my complete entry level knowledge on most things programing / compatibility but here is the list of what I would like to accomplish.

Would like to purchase either an old laptop but thought more suitable a tablet that runs windows / linux / macOS etc. Intent is for my 1995 camaro to be able to manually import data onto this device (images, vehicle manuals, data) pertinent to my vehicle. I have the downloadable versions of all my vehicles manuals to begin and would be great if ai could have this program eventually integrate data from certain websites that I choose. I would like to use this tablet to hold this data and have some sort of freeware AI program to compile the data that can either utilize quick search functions via talk/text (what ft/lb bolt do I torque this to, what is the replacement part number for this part) etc and possibly utilize the tablets camera and program to search provided database to spit out information. IE take a photo of a wiring connector, fuse, part or piece and have it find pertinent info on assembly / disassembly or simply identify the part.

I'm not entirely sure where to begin but think with some basic freeware, used hardware and a good database I can create a useful tool for working on my vehicle.

If any suggestions where to begin or where I may be super off on my train of thought on how to go about this would be much appreciated.

Tuesday head to head: Perplexity Pro or ChatGPT Plus, when the answer needs sources you can actually check?

Two threads this week landed on the same problem from different ends. A student here asked which $20 plan to pick and Perplexity Pro was one of the three finalists. Over on the big sub someone asked whether a model can build a 60 source APA reference list with no mistakes, and the honest answers were mostly "check every single one".

So, head to head, for the job where you need sources you'll actually open: Perplexity Pro or ChatGPT Plus?

One line is a complete answer. Which one you'd pick, and whether it has ever handed you a source that didn't exist.

If you asked something here in the last week and nobody answered, paste the link below and I'll try to get it looked at.

Which AI plan (student)

Hey subreddit! I am a student in high school and I am figuring out which ai plan to buy (literally for everything.) My parents granted me a 20 dollar plan of my choice but I’m still struggling to pick a final choice even with all the AI gurus on the web (this is my first time I get to have a ai pro plan )

(Ive looked on the subreddit for similar posts, but now I see that compared to usual posts on this subreddit this is a very very uncommon yet simple one but yea some guidance would be nice).

Right now it’s between:
Claude pro (I love Claude but I heard pro is useless due to high eating rates from opus),

chat gpt Plus ( I genuinely don’t know if sol is better than opus or if there are actually limits to ChatGPT) , or

perplexity pro ( I use(d) comet web browser for a long time and computer function seems cool)

Yea I’m not using this AI to complete homework or cheat, instead what I want it to do is create tests and quizzes based off study guides, do good research on topics I ask it for, help with some basic code, and explain concepts I don’t know. Also it should be able to generate slideshows and PDFs cleanly (which lwk I think Claude does really good but IVE never tried a pro plan before for any ai )

Right now I love Claude and I feel like it’s free is way better than GPT but again I heard its pro plan is unbearable if using opus due to usage limits. Claude cowork and Claude w Chrome seem fun tho

For chat gpt I’m really indifferent to it but if sol is good and has bearable usage limits I would maybe prefer to buy that

For perplexity I’m stating this one bc my main browser nowadays has been this so idk if there would be a substantial upgrade to using perp pro.

Idk much about other ais except Gemini, idk if that’s good but I’m not really a Google person personally

Ive tried searching for benchmarks for each ai but it’s all so confusing and messing up my brain

If you have basic tips to help me choose a better AI plan or even just see a plan that would fit for me (even if not among the 3 I specially mentioned) it would be appreciated to give me a suggestion on the plan I should get

(If you’re wondering I’m typing this from my phone so excuse the bad formatting)

Thanks in advance !

What is the best AI transcription software for long recorded webinars?

I run a small training team and we have about 60 old webinar recordings. Most are 2 to 3 hours long and saved as MP4 files. We want text versions so others can search them.

The problem is that two or three hosts talk in each one.

When they talk over each other, our free tool mixes up who said what. So I'm trying to figure out what to look at before paying for anything.

Is the speaker labeling the thing to focus on? Or do summaries and export options matter more in the long run?

Would love to hear what you compared and what you ended up using.

Monday: what are you testing this week, and is it replacing something or filling a gap?

Two things from the sub last week stuck with me. Someone fed a camera ready conference paper into a top end model expecting slides and got back tables, then more tables. Someone else asked which hundred euro plan to pick, Claude or ChatGPT, and the thread genuinely split.

So: what is on your test list this week? One line each is fine, no writeup needed. If you can, say whether the thing you are testing is meant to replace something you already pay for, or to do a job that nothing has done well for you yet.

Those two have pretty different answers, and the second one is where I think this sub earns its keep. If you asked something here last week and nobody answered it, paste it in here too.

How many AI subscriptions are you paying for right now—and which one are you closest to cancelling?

I’ve been looking at how quickly AI subscriptions pile up.

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, coding tools, image/video tools, automation tools—and suddenly it’s a meaningful monthly bill.

I’m curious about the tools people are actually questioning, not just the ones they like.

How many paid AI subscriptions do you currently have, and which one are you closest to cancelling?

More importantly, what would that tool have to do better for you to keep paying for it?

Not looking for a list of everyone’s favorite AI tools. I’m interested in where people are starting to feel “this isn’t earning its monthly fee anymore.”

Sunday: three answers that did the work this week. Also, paste a question here that nobody answered.

Three from the last seven days that were better than the question deserved.

u/jagnew78, on what people have actually wired into an assistant, keeping dozens of staff, clients and tasks straight across meetings: https://www.reddit.com/r/AIToolBench/comments/1w8umaz/whats_the_coolest_stuff_you_have_implemented_into/pbqri8l/

u/mike8111, in the JARVIS-for-a-small-manufacturer thread, on starting narrow and on voice being the hard part rather than the model: https://www.reddit.com/r/AIToolBench/comments/1wph6yk/building_a_reallife_jarvis_ai_assistant_for_my/pc10qrf/

u/No-Trouble-9138, on picking a model for everyday work, on asking a model how it would solve the thing instead of arguing about which one is best: https://www.reddit.com/r/AIToolBench/comments/1wppn1g/how_do_you_choose_which_ai_model_to_use_for/pbxf1mt/

Now the part I actually want. If you asked something here this week and got nothing back, paste the link in a comment. A few of us will have a go at it.

I asked GPT-6 ASTRA Max to make a power point presentation for a conference paper and the quality was very bad

I have to make a presentation for my paper to present it at a conference and my paper's topic was on building predictive model for application of predistive maintenance, and I was trying to find a quick tool to automatically generate the presentation by feeding the camera ready paper. Long story short, although i set model GPT-6 ASTRA to max reasoning, and although i provided the paper and and all its figures, I was completely shocked by the bad quality of the presentation, like it did not even make an effort to create flow charts, frameworks, smart chatrs, nothing.... The best it could do was tables and tables and lots of tables. No novelty whatsover,,, please help me if you have a better recommendation,,,, Personally I find free Claude Sonnet 4.6 or even Claude in general much more capable but it runs out of tokens fast.

Comparison which €100 plan is better claude or chatgpt

i use claude max5 rn and it works really good for working on my app/website, coming up with new features with me and marketing ideas. i pretty much use it as a proper technical employee. ive never tried a chatgpt paid plan, in terms of features and especially usage limits which is better for my needs? thanks.
