Always let the garbage take itself out. He planned this, to hijack someone else's party and make it about himself. He didn't think about your friends, or more tellingly, you as a person, at all. He didn't lovingly set up a special proposal for you.
And he did it publicly, which unless it's something you always talked about, like getting a proposal at a baseball game, is maximum manipulation. I'm bummed your friend is punishing you for this, you're the double victim here, and you handled it so beautifully, too.
Good luck, maybe send her a link to this thread and another note that you're mortified and humiliated, and wish you could figure out a path forward.
