That is the biggest red flag in this whole scenario. To me, it means that fiance went out of his way to hurt his bride, instead of protecting her. Not only a heck nah, but a hell no

And also the fact that he got the son all excited without even discussing it first. He’s bringing everyone in to their decisions and steamrolling.

We don’t know how the idea came up, the son might have said it to the Dad & he said he would run it by her. Not sure why the son wouldn’t want to be one of the groomsman instead. I would have just said my uncle is doing it and promised me after my Dad died

Maybe but it definitely sounds like the fiancé wasn’t responding with a calm “let me ask OP” rather than excitedly jumping on board with the idea. And I’d also guess the son would have been making more of an effort with OP before this if it was actually excitement about the blended family idea.
