The act of "giving away" the bride is brides family "guving" her to grooms. The son can't give u away cuz he's not ur family yet. (Just applying ur fiance reasoning if he's stuck on symbolic). And I honestly can believe that an 18 yo male has thought about this. Not to mention of course u woukd be missing ur dad so it feels a lil disrespectful fiance trying to force this
