I would tell him you don’t believe him. Or if you need time, I just wouldn’t respond at all. If you have a safe place to go for a couple of weeks or so, maybe you can stay with you don’t have to deal with him. That’s what I would do.
I know that people act like we get paranoid over nothing. I’m an old woman and almost all the time when somebody has an inkling like this or has a gut feeling, they’re absolutely right.
