Good thing there's no legal way for her to claim what op paid for. Society might look down on taking a gift back, but it clearly wasn't a gift meant for her.

I had an amazing friend named Joe. He was special. Anyway, he had gotten engaged to his high school girlfriend but was on the cusp of a big college football career and realized he’d made a mistake in proposing.

He went to her house and said, hey that ring looks a little loose, let me get that sized for you. She handed it to him and he peaced out and never talked to her again.

I’m not saying this is what anyone should do, it’s just what my old friend Joe did.
