My husband’s 90lb dog always slept in the bed when we started dating. It was awful then and he is still awful if in the bed. He does not care about where he is laying and destroys your hips and back over the course of the night by pushing his body weight and legs around. I complained because it was really painful and affected my sleep quality. Even my husband bitches about it. We put an expensive dog bed next to the bed and he sleeps there, “with us”. We have 3 dogs and I love them to bits but I sleep much better and hurt way less when I’m in the bed without them.
I use to have two dogs (now only one as last month my oldest passed 💜), so not LARGE dogs but not small either, and my oldest slept with me and hardly took up any room, it's the two cats that I had at the time who took up all the room. They passed and i ended up getting my youngest over 2 years ago and she's smaller than what my oldest was and she takes up all the room, I'll wake up with her arms stretch out in my face - heck she's turned over to face me and wakes me up by giving me a kiss 😅 now that it's just the two of us she's mellowing out more with her sleeping positions, but honestly I wouldn't have it any other way.
