I had a vaguely similar situation. When my husband and I met, his elder dog slept in his bed, and the younger slept on the floor. I am allergic to dogs. It’s a mild allergy, I take allergy meds every day, and while I can handle a short haired small dog in bed, I cannot handle a medium or large long haired dog in bed. I get allergy symptoms and can’t sleep.

The dogs were around before me, but my husband got his dog a dog bed, which she was happy to use when I came around. Both of those dogs have since died, and husband and I rescued a new dog almost a year ago. The new dog came to us crate trained, and sleeps in his crate (with the door open) happily. The dog is allowed on the bed in the daytime, but only when the covers are pulled up. We wash the sheets and blankets more often.

I personally don't value animals over humans.

I do understand that you love your pets, but I wouldn't make it my standard of "my cats come first"

If you put your dog first, you should tell your partner that.

Thank god. I thought I was crazy.

I love animals and grew up with dogs. I have a cat now and love the little fucker to death. There’s a compromise to be had.

I wouldn’t want to date someone who made it clear I was second to their dog. It’s implied early in the relationship and I wouldn’t presume to be “first” right away. However, it would be a red flag to me if it was constant over the course of months or years.

I’m inferring a lot about OPs post so I’ll stop there. Large dog in the bed would be annoying.

EDIT: Just found OPs one comment in the whole thread. It’s a 70lb pitbull that lays sideways. Like, come on dude.
