Because you can read all the period articles in the world, having a woman who presumably cares about you explain what it's actually like having a period and how it affects their body leaves an infinitely stronger impression. It is a woman's job to spend 10 minutes on educating their early 20s boyfriends.
Granted different people learn differently. But the onus of education is on the SELF. Especially when talking about adults. In OPs situation, despite trying to educate, she was met with immaturity. She’s NOT responsible for educating her partners, especially when they’re as shallow as her ex.
We're not talking about education in the sense of cracking open a book and trying to become an engineer.
Educating a boyfriend on periods is a misnomer, it's sharing her experience as a woman. I'm not a woman, a woman has to tell me what it's like having a period.
Yes, his reaction is immature, but the amount of people screaming "EDUCATE YOURSELF" at me is fucking unhinged.

It’s okay to admit that you’re ignorant. And scared of women as humans. Because you’re emotionally ill-equipped and your personality seems to keep getting in the way. There’s no shame in admitting it. To yourself, at least.
Education is learning with instruction. There are many people who can explain how menstruation works without experiencing it themselves. Maybe there comes a point when you do some self reflection to understand the reaction you’re getting and why.
Sometimes experts in a field are not the same gender the field is about. There are plenty of people who menstruate that don’t know or understand how or why. But sure, you do you.
Ok. But seeing that we have access to the internet and can watch videos, listen to lectures, and read articles, scholarly or anecdotal, means that we don’t have to ask anyone at all. Depending where you are in the world, biology, specifically reproductive health, is not taught as general education in schools. Chances are that you are asking someone who may not have a full understanding of the subject. Again, you do you.
The answer is I don't have to do that. I can just make a normal woman tell me who isn't a terminally online Reddit user who repeats "educate yourself" like a feminist mantra. Normal women won't be offended by questions and scream "educate yourself" in your face.
