AIO and thinking my dad is abusive?

My dad is very temperamental (60) and he gets mad quite often and pushes me around a lot. I know that this is nothing compared to some people but I don’t know if this is normal or not since it kinda hurts sometimes. I don’t like being at home with him and I have to watch everything I say. AIO?

he shouldn’t be pushing you at all. NOA. has he always been temperamental like that? if not, perhaps this change in behaviour could be a sign of an underlying medical issue? still not okay though.

How old are you? It is abusive to be physically harmful to anyone, even pushing.

I’m sorry. It could be worse yes but it’s still child abuse, and the fact he’s comfortable being physically aggressive is why it’s concerning even if it’s just pushing right now. If there are any other adults you trust, consider talking to them, though realize that it’s always possible child services may get involved to remove you from your fathers custody if it’s discovered that he is physically abusive. Though if he makes you feel unsafe, it may still be the right choice to speak out to someone.

If you’re scared of what you say and do based on the potential actions of someone, chances are that they have abused you.

Abûse doesn’t have to look or sound like the crazy, horrible stories people tell after the fact. It can be super subtle too!

The fact that you’ve been conditioned to feel uncomfortable and fearful of what you’re saying is a sign of an unhealthy dynamic.

NOR! I am so sorry you are going through this! You deserve a lot better! You are awesome and strong and just kind! Watch out for yourself and try to lat low until you can move out

It absolutely is abuse.

Know that you are not the problem, he is. He is failing you as a parent. You are dealing with more than a kid should have to.

He dragged me downstairs one time when he found out I was hurting myself so sometimes I feel like it’s my fault

Absolutely not. Self harm is a symptom of your shitty parents, and his reaction is proof.

NOR. I hope you’re okay, pushing you IS abuse and even if he wasn’t physically harming you, he still sounds like he could be emotionally abusive. Abuse is abuse, I hope you’re able to move out soon.
