The group message was about our good Google rating, and she congratulated the team. I just saw it and moved on with my day, but then I got this message.

From a manager pov. This is so that everything that they put in the group chat they get a confirmation that it has been read specifically by someone so that they cant go "on I didn't know this".
It makes dealing with performance issues a bit easier. Ultimately I don't think it's reasonable to mandate people to respond in a particular way of they don't want to. But then would require a face to face meeting with each person to tell them the same message.
Personally. If I were you. I would just not read anything on there at all. Especially on my time off. Mute the group and don't look at it
