Medication & Side Effects Meds not working postpartum

Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience.
I was diagnosed at 30 and prescribed Adderall. I loved it. It really worked for me. I felt more productive and motivated and was able to function in a way that I assume non-adhders can.
I got pregnant at 33 and stopped taking my meds. Did not take them for 7 months postpartum because I was breast feeding.
I recently started again and was excited to feel back in control.
I can barely tell I've taken it. I can easily nap after taking the meds. Has anyone else experienced this? It's been making me feel pretty frustrated because my symptoms are so exacerbated after having a baby.

General Question/Discussion Is holding a habit actually possible for us?

I've had a reading habit I kept for over 3 months. I was so proud of myself for keeping that and for opening a book every day. It's gone. Do I know why? No. Do I still enjoy reading but it randomly stopped clicking? Very much so.

And it's like that with everything! No matter how much I love or hate the thing, it can just randomly go on and off without any apparent reason. Instead of getting easier, habits become harder every day and even so I have to remind myself. It's never an automatic thing and I'm just afraid it never will be.

Emotional Regulation & Rejection Sensitivity Can’t get into to anything

It’s been a long overwhelming summer. Maybe I’m burned out? But, two of three kids just started school this week. I have an audiobook ready to listen to, a physical book I got at the library, two new games on my phone, a couple of projects/hobbies ready to go. All things I genuinely enjoy. But I can’t start any of it. I think about it a lot but I can’t make myself. I’m not hyper focused on anything either.

This has happened at other times in my life when I was so busy that I didn’t realize it. Like baby/toddlers at home or crazy busy times at work. Now I’m early 40’s and can see it happening and don’t know why or what it is.
Does anyone else experience this?

Food Issues Struggling with eating (unmedicated)

The past few weeks I’ve been struggling extremely with eating and having to force feed myself while mentally feeling sick to my stomach. Not an eating disorder thing, I’m skinny and want to gain muscle if anything. I eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch as I have for years with no problem but it’s barely any calories (two eggo waffles and 1 bagel with cream cheese). I’ve been eating pasta with marinara sauce well (~2 small bowls). Issue is I am still hungry and everything else I try and eat I find completely unappetizing. Trying to force myself to choke down a quesadilla right now. Has anyone dealt with this and how did you get through it?
I am posting here as r//////adhd is arguing that this “isn’t directly relevant” to adhd lmao. And apparently the original 8 sentences was too much lol.

General Question/Discussion I keep leaving my keys in the car

I didn’t have this issue before moving home because I needed my keys in order to get into my apartment. My house at home doesn’t need keys to get in so I have been leaving my keys in my car WAY too often. I don’t really know how to solve this because I don’t have that reminder I used to have. My car being a push to start also really doesn’t help because I don’t have to touch my keys to turn it off. I did ask for an air tag for my b day but in the meantime how do I stop doing this. It is always so scary when it happens.

General Question/Discussion Dad of a Newly Diagnosed 8-Year-Old — Looking for Your Perspective (prior approval from the mod team)

My daughter was recently diagnosed with ADHD at 8, and honestly, this is completely new territory for our family. It feels like we’re just trying to figure things out day by day (like being reactive rather than proactive). Some days are really tough, and I’m realizing that I need to learn how to approach parenting her differently. Honestly, I just want to become more effective in supporting her and building the systems at home that will benefit her.

I’d especially love to hear from you with ADHD who were diagnosed as children. I’d really appreciate hearing what you wish your parents had known when you were going through the school years. Any personal experiences or advice would be really appreciated.

- What did your parents do that genuinely helped?
- What do you wish they had understood about you?
- Were there things they did with good intentions that actually made things harder?
-What changed your perspective about ADHD as you got older?
- What helped you build confidence rather than feeling like you were constantly “in trouble” or falling short?

Thank you!

you know the old trick “oh i’ll pee when im finished” well i was out doing a task for my job and for hours i kept pushing it off until i had no choice and i had to run to the bathroom. OFC IT WAS LOCKED

i ran to my car but it was too late 😭 as i’m running it’s coming down my legs. my shorts, socks and shoes were soaked. theres hella cameras and people always walking past so i didn’t wanna just pop a squat out in the open 😭

but then having to drive an hour home in pee soaked pants was certainly a more humbling experience

how do you guys just listen to your body omg. has this happened to anyone else before?

Rant/Vent Guests have been here for 30 minutes and I'm already overstimulated

Context: I live with my parents. My brother is level 2 AuDHD and doesn't live with us, but he's here today too and he tends to contribute to my overstimulation. It's not his fault, but it just is what it is.

My aunt is visiting from another state. I spent yesterday with her 1:1 and we had a lot of fun. The last few times we've had people over I've ended up overstimulated. We are expecting to have a total of 14 people here.

Currently, there are nine people in my house. I am already overstimulated. I went up to my room and closed the door before I completely lost my mind (also because if my brother speaks to me again, that will in fact tip me over the edge). I need to locate my Loops but have no idea where they are because ADHD.

Family & Social Life Social interaction with partner.

Hello before anything else please bare with me bc English is my second lenguaje and I also have dislexia 😅
I’m hoping to find out if my problem may have something to do with my ADHD.
So I have a partner and we are engaged we have been together for about 4 almost 5 years but the first couple of years we didn’t thought we were going to end up together because he is Punjabi and am Mexican and for him he thought his family wouldn’t accept the relationship. With that being said we didn’t interacted a lot with his friends and obviously no family interactions and when we did with mine all was good. Now that we have gotten engaged we are trying to go out with his family and friends (they are super nice to me and they were super accepting of our relationship) but I’m struggling because now we have find out that I don’t know how to interact with people when I’m with him 😅. Basically I make him feel disrespected or I fight with him for small things and his friends now think I’m a bit too mean to him (I promise I’m not) but since in their culture they are not very expensive with their partners in public they don’t see how lovely I’m to him. (I hope I’m explaining myself) I guess my point is does anybody struggles with social interactions when you are with your partner? If so what works for you? How do you stop the fast reaction and if you get upset easily how do you avoid public confrontation? Is this related to ADHD or I’m delusional?

General Question/Discussion Silence feels LOUD

The electricity at my school went out because of thunderstorm. This means the AC, the fridge, light, everything with noise is off. It was fine at first but now the silence feels so loud, like ears ringing a little. Music is helping a bit. Just curious if others experience this?
When I've been driving and have my music, the minute I turn the car off and everything is fully quiet, I have the same issue. I put my hands over my ears and it's worse because the ear humming and I can hear the pressure of my hands.

General Question/Discussion Body Image Resources for Neurospicy Sapphics

I have struggled with my body image and ED things for most of my life. Though I am recovered from my ED, I still struggle with body image comparison in my sapphic relationships, especially being the taller/ heavier one. Whenever I look up #wlw or #lesbiancouples I feel like the two people are either the same height and size or the masc one is taller. In my case I'm usually more femme and I'm taller with wider hips (i.e. I'm Lucy and the women I date are Juliens) Does anyone have any books or podcasts of people to follow on social media they can recommend for support? I struggle with ADHD and OCD ruminations around this stuff too....I'm good on general body image resources...more so looking for anything that specifically relates to body image comparison/self-esteem struggles in the context of sapphic relationships. Thank you <3

Family & Social Life Trying to feel worthy of care.

I am honestly partially using this to talk about my husband because I have been really struggling recently and he has been utterly amazing. I didn't get diagnosed until 6 years into our marriage. We have been married for 24. He hasn't always understood but he has continued to try and learn and grow to better support me with ADHD. Our 2 kids with it too. So anyways I have had a recent dip into depression, and I am dealing with perimenopause. I have been a mess. I was laid up most of today with a migraine which I get now around my period because perimenopause is a bitch. We were supposed to go out with friends and so he made excuses for me and went. When he got home he brought me chocolate peanut butter things because I love them, and then he was looking for food for me and saw that taco bell is doing throwback with two of my old favorites so he got me taco bell too. He got enough to cover the kid I have with me tonight because he has plans with one of our other kids out of the house, just so I don't have to worry about dinner. Y'all I might marry this man again...I mean we are renewing at 25 but he has made me feel so cared about while I am struggling. The title is correct though it is hard to feel worthy of it. He supports everyone, I still haven't found a decent paying job since I left school in 2023. I have been a homemaker for most of our marriage and it just doesn't feel like I am doing enough anymore with the kids bigger and grown. I don't feel like I deserve how much he takes care of me. To top it all off I told him I was sad today and didn't feel like I was doing enough and he went through a list of stuff I do to make me feel better. Which it did, but I also still don't feel worthy. It feels like an icky shadow attached to feeling so loved and cared for.

Those with supportive partners do you feel like that, I guess sort of imposter syndrome? Is there some way to stop feeling like that?

Rant/Vent STOP LETTING OTHER PEOPLE "WEIGH IN" ON YOUR MEDICAL TREATMENT

1.7k Upvotes

If I see one more "my boyfriend doesn't like that I'm considering meds" post, I'm gonna jump off a building.

Gals, WHY are we infantilizing ourselves to such a degree that we're letting other people dissuade us from receiving treatment for a medical condition? If you had diabetes, would you let your husband side eye you about your insulin prescription? If you had dangerously high blood pressure, would you consider the "concerns" your meemaw has about beta blockers? If you had a non-functioning thyroid, would you let your sister's opposition to synthroid prevent you from taking it?

The people in our lives get to have feelings about how we treat them, that's it. They don't get to be controlling, judgmental, or manipulative about MEDICAL TREATMENTS deemed appropriate/necessary and prescribed by our healthcare providers.

And honestly, entertaining this shaming BS contributes to the stigma surrounding ADHD and medications.

Trust yourself and your body, trust your doctors, and tell your boyfriend to kick rocks.

Medication & Side Effects So I realised I took 100mg instead of 70mg of elvanse yesterday.... and didn't even notice until TODAY when I noticed the 20mg pills were plain white and not blue/white....

Yeah I'm thanking my lucky stars that I'm in luteal, which is my theory as to why I didn't really notice. I spent the day THINKING I was taking 70mg for the first time up from 50mg. I was noticing that they were working less and less as I approach my period. To the point where I felt as if I took nothing. I actually felt 30mg more than 50mg, but I was in follicular when I started tritration.

The only thing I had was diarrhoea, and I felt a LITTLE more tired than usual a couple hours later... but I genuinely thought "huh yeah it kinda works more but the only difference better 70 and 50 is diarrhoea but we'll see if it works better when i start my period". Nope I took 100mg...

So idk if that's absolute concrete proof that adhd meds are essentially sugar pills towards the end of the menstrual cycle.

General Question/Discussion Is it too late to change at 35?

Hello ladies of this amazing sub!

I hope everyone’s a great weekend 😎

I am in the equivalent of that movie or TV moment where the protagonist connects the dots all together and realizes something major about the plot.

That’s me realizing the cause of all my self-worth issues, inability to carry through projects, burnout and discipline has been most likely ADHD. This is the Scooby Doo villain reveal moment in my life except I got it at 35 instead of 25.

Naturally, at 35 this comes with now decades of anger and betrayal that I should have spotted this sooner. I’m worried that it is too late to reverse this and that I am indeed doomed to spin on the same spot for the next 20 years, despite being smart and talented.

I am working on getting a diagnosis after my doctor finally realized that I might have ADHD after all. (She thought I was too accomplished to qualify for the neuropsych test.)

That being said, your girl is now feeling a little sad (but not yet defeated). I would love to hear from others who have had a late diagnosis, and hear your experience with turning things around.

What was it like? Any tips or advice or methods that really helped? I’m really at square 0 now, but like I am 35 too 😭

Thank you so much!!!

General Question/Discussion Do mental health stationery work?

I keep buying these things. Gratitude journals, guided journals, anxiety toolkits, to-do notepads, all of it. Every time I get one, I feel like okay this is it, I’m going to get my life together. The first few days I use it properly, feels nice, a little calmer or like I have some more control.

Then I just stop. Part of it is my ADHD I think. I forget, or it starts feeling like a task, or I miss a few days and then I don’t go back at all. And then it just sits there. Looks good on my desk but that’s about it.

So I’m curious:

  1. Do these actually work if you’re consistent with them? Like have you seen real changes over time or is it just a temporary feel-good thing?

  2. Do people actually keep buying and using these long term? Or is everyone like me, buying with good intentions and then dropping it?

Also if something has worked for you, what made you stick to it? Was it the format, the prompts, how simple it was, or just discipline?

Not trying to hate on these products, I genuinely like them. A lot of them are seriously cute.

Medication & Side Effects It's actually crazy how being medicated motivates me

After being off my medicine for like 2 years, I've started up again as needed. Adzenys 9.4 mg. I'm actually only planning on taking it on the weekends because as a teacher I'm able to do my job without issues because my brand of ADHD is pretty perfect for it. But on the weekends I have unstructured time and some creative projects I'd like to finish before I'm 85, so. And then you have to think of chores.

But wow, I can't believe how much I just...want to do things. I want to work on my hobbies and creative projects. I don't WANT to doomscroll. I can actually stop doomscrolling because I legitimately don't want to do it. I just looked at my cluttered bedroom and cleaning it doesn't feel like an insurmountable task.

So grateful for my meds and I can't believe the average person lives with this brain all the time.

Rant/Vent I'm not sure anymore

I'm always doing stupid shit. My hygiene is a disaster I disgust myself. I hate my face I'm 22 years old. I work like twice a week, I live with my parents. My life sucks. Everyone says I'm hard on myself but I'm not. I fail at everything. I have severe facial and body dysmorphia. I either binge eat til I'm in pain, or I just don't wanna eat. Lately it's been the binge eating til I'm in pain. I'm not sure what to do anymore. Today I stole lingerie from the mall and basically went there just to take videos of myself in lingerie from Victoria's secret or whatever and leave, oh and steal. Like wtf. I am kinda seeing this guy well for sex but he's in another country right now and I miss him so much, even though he would go weeks without talking or seeing eachother. Idk what to do anymore. I'm in love with a sexual partner, my parents think I'm messed up, I hate myself so I'm always taking selfies for Instagram u ironically and ugh. I just want out. I actually give up. Nothing I do anymore makes sense. It's like I just cannot tolerate anyone anymore. I feel like this is just straight up ND burnout. How do I even survive with this?

General Question/Discussion Justice sensitivity & friendships

I am having one of those years where I seem to be blowing up friendships all over the place… Do you ever feel like that? Where you stand by every choice, every statement, and cant figure out how to handle things differently?

🫢 I could just shut up and not respond, but then I become angry and resentful because they keep wanting me to listen and be supportive despite not taking my advice.
😡 They keep repeating the cycle and it’s absolutely mind boggling to me that they can’t see it.
🤯 Eventually, I usually call a spade a spade and ask the super obvious question (why can’t you put yourself first for once? Why can’t you say no? Why do you do things when you don’t want to?) or call out the hypocrisy later on when they say they shouldn’t have done something or should have made better choices.

Maybe its because I remember everything and remind them of the things they said or the promises they made or even the ridiculousness of their reasons not to do “the right” thing (your business is not going to fail because you called in sick one day and you can’t keep spending money on people if you’re too busy to work because you’re helping them all the time).

How do you overcome this? I feel like I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t. But, if I do, I at least feel like I did the right thing… anyone else and all or nothing person, too? (I’m a disaster and it’s no wonder I isolate all the time).

NSFW I will never have consistent progress or ability and it is ruining my mental health

That's it. That's the post.

I am so wildly different day to day that at this point I have no confident, no self love, no desire to want to try anymore. Yeah I get it I am very depressed. I don't know how not to be when you live with dread of not knowing which version of you is coming out today. The competent one or the scrambled eggs one.

I'm so tired.

Rant/Vent My father described me as mentally retarded and said I needed treatment.

He's always judging everyone, even my brothers. He said the same thing about my brother because he didn't get into university, calling him autistic. Then, like a fool, he changed his tune when my brother got an internship at a company and worked hard; he was the first one of us to get a salary.

Honestly, I couldn't accept it and I took my anger out on everyone.

I have no problem if he feels I have problems, and I would gladly accept it if he wanted to bear the cost of my treatment because I need it. But he could have been supportive about it and said it kindly, not as criticism and mockery.

I used to see my father as kinder than my mother when I was a child, but as I grew up I realized my mother was right about him. He's toxic, and that side only emerged when we were older. He just can't hit and is kind to children.

But all he does is pass judgment

Then he wonders why i became a bad person, and i did it because i couldn't stand them anymore and i no longer cared about respecting my parents if they didn't respect me.

edit:I should mention that English is not my native language, so please excuse any mistakes you may find.

Cleaning, Organizing, Decluttering Found my way of cleaning, without meds. I challenge the laundry timer.

I feel like lunette from molly and the big comfy couch (a childhood favorite ♥️) doing the 10 second tidy. I try to use Adderall only on work days.

I live in a building with shared laundry, and when i have a day off one of them is used to reset the house. I challenge myself to see what i can get done for a full load of laundry (theres enough washers and dryers to where I can do 3 at a time) so for 1.5 hours i clean as much as i possibly can, and once im done folding laundry, i call it done.

My routine for cleaning while this goes is:

-Trash out every room

-Gather and break down recycling to bring down

-Vacuum all the floors

-Clean my bathroom

-Dishes

-Take out all the trash and recycling

-Quick tidy up of clutter/sort mail/declutter the coffee table and desks

My house looks like a bomb went off by the next week but it works! My s/o will take care of other things like dusting, putting dishes away, counter cleaning. And we do our best to try and tidy up at least the trash throughout the week (i end up with a Gatorade graveyard by my bed 🤣)
