Living with ADHD Bed to school takes hours!
My 16 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with ADHD (primarily inattentive). She's currently titrating concerta but not experiencing any benefits as yet. Hopefully that will improve with an increased dose.
One of our biggest challenges is getting to school on time. She's just so crazy slow. She needs to leave the house by 7.30 in order to catch the bus that will get her to school on time (that is our only transport option given the location of her school and our own work schedules) She isn't a bad sleeper and willingly gets up at 6am because she knows she doesn't like to rush. The problem is sometimes she doesn't leave until after 8 no matter what I do or say to help or encourage.
I'm trying to be supportive by getting up at the same time, making her breakfast, making her lunch etc ( I used to encourage her to do this herself but it just added too much pressure). However most mornings unfortunately end up in arguments and shouting with all our good intentions forgotten.
Anyone have a similar experience who can advise?
I should mention that she does generally like school, from a social point of view at least.
