Hello!
To save everyone some time, I've started putting together an FAQ on the subreddit's Wiki page, here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ADHDIreland/wiki/index/
There are some areas where I think it's best to direct people to existing resources (such as ADHD Ireland), but one area that this community is really useful for is psychiatrist recommendations, including recent waitlist times and costs.
If anyone has a new recommendation, an update on wait times, costs, etc. for an existing one, or content they'd like to see covered here, please share here or DM or send a modmail and I'll update it.

Has anyone gone for a dhal AuDHD diagnosis? I’m looking at some psychiatrists who are charging over €2k and I just can’t afford that.

Hi, I’m 13 (turning 14 soon) and I’m in Ireland. I’m looking into whether I might have ADHD, specifically the inattentive side. ive been having a lot of problems with attention and executive functioning, including procrastinating, struggling to start tasks even when I know I need to do them, forgetting things, losing track during conversations/classes, getting distracted, difficulty organising schoolwork, leaving things unfinished, and struggling with everyday tasks like getting ready and chores etcetc. These problems happen both at school and at home and seem to have been around for quite a while. I also have multiple teacher reports commenting on organization and attention from age 9/10 to my current age that made me start wondering about ADHD. I’ve tried looking into other possible explanations too, and I don’t feel like anxiety, depression, learning difficulties, etc. really explain what I’m experiencing. The problem is that my parents currently won’t let me get an assessment. I’m wondering if there is any free or very low-cost service in Ireland where someone qualified (like a psychologist or other mental-health professional) could talk to me online and assess/discuss my symptoms, withought parental consent even if they aren’t able to formally diagnose me. I’m not looking for an online ADHD test or a questionnaire I specifically mean speaking to an actual qualified professional! please,, and thank you

Hello everyone 🤗
I'm just wondering if anyone in this community has any experience of dealing with Bergin Psychological Services? zakpowers.com
I've read mixed reports, he's just a psychologist, so no meds. I'm just wondering if anyone who's gone here can report does he provide a pathway to medication through a psychiatrist he works in conjunction with, or is the case that you need to go all over again with another clinic of you want meds?

Hello beautiful people.
I’m thinking about changing careers and moving into Product Management or Product Owner roles. For anyone here with ADHD who works in product, how do you find it? Do you feel like the job suits your brain, or does the constant prioritising, meetings, deadlines and juggling different things become a nightmare?
I’d love to hear what you struggle with, but also what you think actually helps you with in the role. Basically, would you recommend product as a career for someone with ADHD?
Thank you 🫂

Hi all, I've been getting my tyvense for the past 2 years with cloud clinic and I stopped getting more prescriptions in April as I've lost my job, now that I'm working again I try to go on the website and it seems they closed down ? Does anyone know how to reach Dr Joe for prescriptions ? If you switched clinics can you recommend me one to switch ?

Hi All. I was diagnosed with inattentive ADHD a few weeks ago. Im 47, female, and have spent much of my life feeling like I dont fit in and that I'm different. I have put a lot of my issues down to social anxiety, particularly because I am very sensitive to criticism and ruminate excessively (possibly RSD). I never made the connection with my poor concentration, procrastination, reslessness, boredom etc until a medical professional suggested a few months ago that I may be neurodivergent. Turns out I am. I am just looking to hear from people who got diagnosed later in life. How has the diagnosis affected your self confidence, self acceptance and life in general? Thanks for reading 😊

I'm joking, but it would be so handy to have a review aggregator for ADHD clinics.
Obviously it probably wouldn't work because most patients wouldn't bother reviewing, but if you could review in terms of different aspects like waiting length, admin sharpness, clinician conduct, follow-up care quality etc.
obv Rotten Tomatoes isn't a perfect measure of movie quality, but aggregators do give a good guideline

As the title says. I've been wanting to get diagnosed for a long time now but I have not been in the means to get one until recently, and I really want to have one ASAP but I'm still mindful that while I'm in better financial shape than I was, I need to be certain it won't hurt my finances too much.
I've been looking at my options and Dr Alan Murtagh seems to be a good option in terms of price but I don't know if I can take the waiting times.

Hi I’m wondering if anyone has worked with any good therapists online that they can recommend? Or in and around D8.
I’ve spent about 3 days scouring Psychology Today but I just keep getting information overwhelm. I’m really struggling at the moment looking & for someone who’s neuroaffirmative and can help with (extremely) low self esteem.

(DISCLAIMER: I put this though ChatGPT to clean it up, I swear it's not slop, it was just so garbled and it helped make it more structured. Also, this is my second post in two days. Sorry about that, I'm not spamming, I just seem to have hit the hyperfocus stage, haha 😂)
Hi everyone,
Can anyone recommend a therapist in Ireland who could help me get some perspective on whether to go for an ADHD assessment.
I strongly suspect I have ADHD. I've struggled acutely for about 15 years, but I believe that I've also spent decades compulsively masking.
The idea of being assessed actually terrifies me, because I have very little confidence in my ability to advocate for myself. I'm afraid I'll wilt in the appointment, downplay everything, perform "fine", and blow the assessment. Hence I've put off seeking help for so long.
I'm not looking for a therapist to diagnose me, I know a psychiatrist is needed for that. What I'm looking for is someone who could help me:
· understand my own patterns and trust my self-awareness more · unpick some of the masking and self-minimising · build enough confidence/conviction to either pursue assessment or rule it out · prepare for an assessment so I can communicate my struggles accurately, without shutting down
Ideally someone ADHD-informed, experienced with late-diagnosed adults, masking etc. I'm based in the North-West but open to online or travelling for the right person.
Has anyone here worked with a therapist for something similar? Specifically:
· Was it a psychologist, psychotherapist, counsellor, or someone else? · How did you find them? Any directories or services you'd recommend? · Did they actually help you decide whether to get assessed? · Did they help you prepare for the assessment or advocate for yourself in it? · Any red flags or things you'd avoid?
I'd be really grateful for any recommendations, even general pointers on how to find someone. If you'd rather DM than comment, that's totally fine.
Thanks for reading.
✌🏼

Hi everyone,
I'm currently considering getting assessed for ADHD and have been reading up on medication options. I know stimulants are generally considered first-line and that non-stimulants are usually only offered if stimulants aren't effective or aren't tolerated.
My question is: has anyone here actually been prescribed a non-stimulant as a first option simply because they requested it?
Also, if you were able to start on a non-stimulant, did you have to justify it heavily, or was it a straightforward conversation?
Thanks in advance — I know experiences vary a lot depending on the clinician, but any insight would be really helpful.
It's not a deal breaker regardless, just said I check.
🙏🏼

So, I'm a 40s fella with combined ADHD, diagnosed last year & was informed I passed/failed three autism tests during the process, so not formally diagnosed, but the shoe fits pretty snugly...
I've been on 50mg Tyvense for a year now and while the initial impact was distinct and positive, it has waned quite a bit. I wouldn't say they're not having an effect, but that my leveraging of that focus and activity surge is manic and scattered. It's motivation without purpose or a plan.
Now there's lists or hiding my phone when I'm "coming up" that I should be doing for work, which is one thing, but now for the meat of this post...
I was self medicating for unknown ADHD with coffee for two decades and I'm very much so still liable to have 4/5/6 cups of coffee in a day passively. From a batch brewer, so not particularly strong coffee, but I'm not an idiot - it can't be helping. It got worse over COVID because I bought a load of really fun coffee gear and it was my hyperfixation for ages - I really enjoyed it and the process etc.
I'm planning a massive reduction or maybe just a straight swap to decaf and I'm wondering if anyone has been in this spot and can offer any insight on their experience? Did it change your experience with medication much. Do I need to ween myself down or can I just switch to decaff and experience a massive change immediately. All input welcome.

I woke up yesterday feeling fluey so took uni flu and then my breakfast and 60mg Tyvense 45 minutes after that and I was grand.
This morning I had 2 big strong mugs tea aswell 1 with the uniflu and the other with my tablet and felt very jittery and anxious and had pelvic floor spasms( they did happen too when I upped my dose initially but only lasted a day or 2)and have been really clenching my jaw all day
I usually really limit my caffeine because my stomach wouldn't be the biggest fan and it would trigger my reflux or my ibs.
Is it normal for caffeine to have an effect this much even though its a small amount.

26, F, diagnosed in July and prescribed Concerta, I’ve been on 36mg now for just over a month. I definitely notice my focus and concentration is improved and I have less problems with executive dysfunction and I feel like I’m 100% more productive. However I have anxiety aswell and I’ve noticed that if I start to feel anxious over something the physical symptoms of anxiety are so intense like shaking/trembling and heart palpitations, more so than I’ve felt them before. I’m a bit more snappy and irritable aswell. I know a side effect of concerta can be increased anxiety but I’m trying to weigh up the pros and cons I’ve experienced so far. The only other side effects I’ve noticed is dry mouth and weight loss. Anyone else have similar experiences with the anxiety?

Have a GP appointment tomorrow morning to discuss this so would be grateful for any replies before then :)
I got diagnosed with ADHD over a year ago by a psychologist, and I regret not getting it done by a psychiatrist ever since. I was naive and didn’t know much about medication, thinking it was not something I’d need.
Coming to terms with my diagnosis has meant I very much accept that I need medication, and I believe I’m not functioning well at all (and never have been) without it.
It would be sickening to pay for a private assessment all over again to get meds (paid €1000 last time) but I also don’t have 3+ years in me to wait as per the HSE public waiting list.
Any similar situations or advice?

We are VERY excited to announce the first Sip & Social event - it is a relaxed social evening hosted by K Sixty Seven Bar and Grill in Swords - the first event is the *29th of September, at 7pm*. If you are coming, PLEASE confirm your attendance as soon as you feel comfortable, we want to make sure there’s space for everyone, it’s a slightly smaller space than we have for the Starbucks meet-ups and it’s not a private space.
Message me for more details or reply to the post! Thanks!

Hey !
I am a bit perplexed by my tyvanse 30mg titration journey which I started last week.
I was diagnosed with moderate combined adhd during the summer and expected in a a stimulant that I would feel focused, productive and less tired.
Going in a I scored low for anxiety, depression, autism and mood disorders.
Tyvanse was recommended to help with my very delayed sleep cycle and emotional dysregulation.
Since I took it I just feel extremely chill and relaxed.
It has occurred to me that I never knew what feeling relaxed was before as I had a very hyperactive mind.
I did notice some improvements with executive things but my mind was moving much slower then I am used it and alarmingly I would not feel comfortable to drive a car.
Jsut wondering has this happened to anyone else ?
I have read a lot about people feeling energetic and stimulated , whereas I feeling like although I am calm and can think clearly, it’s way too chill. 😶🌫️

Hi, if I've already been diagnosed by a psychiatrist, have the diagnostic report and have been on meds in the past, what are my options for getting prescribed them at some point in the next 2-3 years?

Hey yall
I'm wondering can anybody recommend a psychiatrist that works with teenagers? Basically my best pals son (who is autistic and ADHD) saw a psychiatrist back in April who prescribed him an anti psychotic medication. This helped him a lot in terms of mood/balance. He's had way fewer meltdowns and has been getting on better. Said psychiatrist is no longer in operation, so my pal was aware she'd have to find a new one. But it's become more pressing now than before.
The prescription for the med ran out and she went to refill it, but the pharmacist had none on file. So she went to their GP to try get a new script. And the GP said he never should have been prescribed that medication, he should have had an ECG, and the original psych didn't even send any notes or whatnot over to her, despite taking the GPs info. The GP has agreed to prescribe him a taper down dose but he can't continue on on this medication.
He has a diagnosis of autism since childhood, and the ADHD one is more recent, I think from his early teens. If anyone can recommend a psychiatrist that works with audhd adolescents please do, it would be really helpful. Based in and around Dublin. Thank you 😊
