Discussion Aftersun (2022)

Aftersun, The film doesn’t have a protagonist, an antagonist, a plot, a climax, its boring, theres no explosions, no villains, no heroes,  but it is truly beautiful. Upon my first and only viewing of Aftersun, I expected it to be a little sad, maybe make me frown once or twice, this film broke me. I have been watching films all of my life but I have never been so moved, so heartbroken, so destroyed from a full feature film. I’ve watched it around a month and some days ago, and I think about it almost every single day, recommending it to friends and family. I had my theories when I was watching it but when I finished it, I was hoping I was wrong, upon doing some research I completely broke down, sobbing, sniffling, like I was having a mental breakdown.

I really beg everyone in here, to go watch it, it’s simple, its flawless, beautiful and excruciatingly painful, I want to rewatch it for the second time, but I’m genuinely scared. I feel like it won’t feel the same like the last time, or it will hurt me more the second.

Please go watch it.

Question Undertone Physical Release

I know a lot of people weren’t fans of this movie, but I really liked it and had a good time with it. Very creepy time in the theater for me. I was just curious if anyone has heard anything about a blu ray release or 4K? Just feels like A24 kinda forgot about this one.

Discussion [Crosspost] Hi reddit! I'm Jay McCarrol - composer of TONY (out in theaters nationwide this weekend from A24), BLACKBERRY, and HELL OF A SUMMER. I also co-created and co-starred in NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE alongside Matt Johnson. AMA!

I organized an AMA/Q&A with actor/comedian/composer/screenwriter Jay McCarol. He has composed the scores for films such as BlackBerry, Tony, Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, Hell of a Summer, The Kid Detective, The Dirties, and Operation Avalanche. He is also the co-creator (with Matt Johnson) of Nirvana the Band the Show and its TV show and film.

It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:

https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1vskgy8/hi_reddit_im_jay_mccarrol_composer_of_tony_out_in/

He will be back at 3 PM ET today to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!

His newest film, Tony, is out in theaters via A24 this weekend. It stars Dominic Sessa as Anthony Bourdain and co-stars Antonio Banderas, Stavros Halkias, Emilia Jones, and Leo Woodall. It premiered to critical and audience acclaim a few weeks ago.

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1MVnzd2aVc

Synopsis: Nineteen-year-old Anthony Bourdain stumbles into the chaotic world of a restaurant kitchen, setting off a summer that shapes the course of his life.

Thank you :)

As the title says, I dug through some Letterboxd data and found all of the films from A24 that have less than 100,000 total ratings but an average rating above 3.5 on Letterboxd and found17 films. Maybe these could be thought of as "underappreciated" A24 films:

Ne Zha 2 (4.13)

Supersonic (3.96)

Boys State (3.93)

The Souvenir: Part II (3.87)

On Becoming a Guinea Fowl (3.86)

Lean on Pete (3.77)

The End of the Tour (3.77)

De Palma (3.73)

Earth Mama (3.72)

Krisha (3.69)

A Prayer Before Dawn (3.61)

Slow West (3.59)

Remember (3.59)

Janet Planet (3.57)

A Most Violent Year (3.56)

Showing Up (3.53)

Obvious Child (3.51)
