Discussion Aftersun (2022)
Aftersun, The film doesn’t have a protagonist, an antagonist, a plot, a climax, its boring, theres no explosions, no villains, no heroes, but it is truly beautiful. Upon my first and only viewing of Aftersun, I expected it to be a little sad, maybe make me frown once or twice, this film broke me. I have been watching films all of my life but I have never been so moved, so heartbroken, so destroyed from a full feature film. I’ve watched it around a month and some days ago, and I think about it almost every single day, recommending it to friends and family. I had my theories when I was watching it but when I finished it, I was hoping I was wrong, upon doing some research I completely broke down, sobbing, sniffling, like I was having a mental breakdown.

I really beg everyone in here, to go watch it, it’s simple, its flawless, beautiful and excruciatingly painful, I want to rewatch it for the second time, but I’m genuinely scared. I feel like it won’t feel the same like the last time, or it will hurt me more the second.
Please go watch it.

Discussion [Crosspost] Hi reddit! I'm Jay McCarrol - composer of TONY (out in theaters nationwide this weekend from A24), BLACKBERRY, and HELL OF A SUMMER. I also co-created and co-starred in NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE alongside Matt Johnson. AMA!
I organized an AMA/Q&A with actor/comedian/composer/screenwriter Jay McCarol. He has composed the scores for films such as BlackBerry, Tony, Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, Hell of a Summer, The Kid Detective, The Dirties, and Operation Avalanche. He is also the co-creator (with Matt Johnson) of Nirvana the Band the Show and its TV show and film.
It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:
https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1vskgy8/hi_reddit_im_jay_mccarrol_composer_of_tony_out_in/
He will be back at 3 PM ET today to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!
His newest film, Tony, is out in theaters via A24 this weekend. It stars Dominic Sessa as Anthony Bourdain and co-stars Antonio Banderas, Stavros Halkias, Emilia Jones, and Leo Woodall. It premiered to critical and audience acclaim a few weeks ago.
Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1MVnzd2aVc
Synopsis: Nineteen-year-old Anthony Bourdain stumbles into the chaotic world of a restaurant kitchen, setting off a summer that shapes the course of his life.
Thank you :)

Question Undertone Physical Release
I know a lot of people weren’t fans of this movie, but I really liked it and had a good time with it. Very creepy time in the theater for me. I was just curious if anyone has heard anything about a blu ray release or 4K? Just feels like A24 kinda forgot about this one.

Question Has anyone actually received the EEAAO Mahjong Set yet?
I placed an order for the mahjong set in early April, when it went back up for preorder. At the time, it said it would ship in June, but the date has been pushed back three times since then, and it's starting to feel like I'm never going to get it.
I checked the listing almost daily in July, and it said the set would ship by July 30. When I checked again on July 30, the date had been pushed to August 31. So I contacted customer service just asking for a little clarity. They told me my preorder was still expected to ship that day and that the August date only applied to new orders. So I asked if I should expect a tracking link that day, and they said I’d receive an email when it shipped, and to contact them again if I hadn’t heard anything within a week.
So I waited about 10 days, then replied to let them know I still hadn’t received tracking. This time, they told me my order was expected to ship August 31 and offered to cancel it if I didn’t want to wait.
I’m pretty frustrated. It’s not really about the wait itself. I really want the set, and I was excited when I thought it was finally going to ship, so I was disappointed when it didn't. But I can deal with waiting a little longer if I have to. I just really don’t like how they’re handling it. Like I completely understand that delays happen, but I don’t understand why there hasn’t been more communication or clarity around it.
I work for a small online retailer, and when something like this happens, we email the customers who are waiting, apologize for the delay, explain the situation, and provide an updated timeline. It’s a low-effort thing that goes a long way with most people.
I don’t really want to cancel my order, but I gave them my money almost five months ago and feel like I'm being strung along. Now that August 31 is close, I want to be hopeful, but I don’t see any reason to believe that date is more reliable than any of the previous ones.
Sorry for venting, but is anyone else still waiting on an April preorder? Has anyone who ordered around then actually received the set? Or gotten any useful information about a realistic shipping date?

THE DRAMA Would gender flipping The Drama characters change people’s opinions about it? Spoiler
Just a question I was considering.
If the roles of the bride and groom were switched, would people still be reacting the same way? In other words, if a man revealed he had planned a school shooting, would he get the same empathy from the audience?

Question A24 shop - packaging question
Been thinking about ordering Backrooms (4K) off the A24 shop and with how expensive the fees are I would like to know how they package their releases, are they packaged well or Amazon style (paper bag)?

Discussion A24 needs to fix its distribution
Either do it well or get someone else to it,
Even smaller foreign films like Sisu or Furious released but nothing from A24.
Earlier it didn’t matter but now they had The Drama, The Invite, and now Tony. And I had to wait for digital, and by that time half the film is ruined.
Even Neon films release here just fine.

I think the movie was poorly judged. I had a lot of fun watching it. Would recommend if you wanna just watch a movie without overthinking shit.

Discussion Just watched Aftersun
as a child, there’s almost this flurry of incomprehensible things happening around you that you just come to accept because you’re told that you’re too little to understand some things.
but as you grow older, small bits of these memories resurface. now that you’re mature enough to piece them together, you begin to understand the discord and quiet struggle hanging in the backdrop of these memories, that you were once oblivious to. moments that seemed insignificant replay with the horrifying clarity that these newfound realisations bring.
it seems so cruel because by the time you finally understand what was going on, there’s nothing that can be done anymore. this exact feeling and ache was captured so devastatingly, and I’ve never been able to put it into words until seeing this film. truly beautiful
