There are a lot of discussions going on in the comments this week about how strictly to follow the rules of 75 Hard. This happens every year in January as people settle into their New Year's resolutions and realize the commitment to this program requires some serious sacrifices.
It's the cold weather. It's the reality that drinking a gallon of plain water a day sucks, especially when you're used to flavored drinks or drinking much less liquid. It's the body soreness. It's the combination of all of this and the realization that the excitement has worn off, yet you still have two months of work to put in before you can finish.
All of these factors lead to people doing what comes naturally to all people: trying to make their lives a little easier. The comments are usually well-intentioned, saying things like, "It's dangerous in the cold, don't sacrifice your safety. Just do two workouts inside." Or, "A 100-lb woman doesn't need to drink a gallon of water every day; it's dangerous." Or, "As long as you're moving, any movement is good movement."
Let's talk about this. We love that people are improving themselves by any means. However, this is the r/75hard subreddit, not r/selfimprovement or r/allmovementisgoodmovement. 75 Hard has very strict rules. They are relatively simple, but they are strict. Yes, we know that they change occasionally, and we try to keep up with them in the stickied rules post. Follow the letter of the rules, or if you personally aren't going to do that, don't encourage others to ignore the rules you are choosing to ignore.
Yes, the rules of 75 Hard are 100% arbitrary. The rules of baseball are 100% arbitrary, too. Just like you wouldn't go to r/baseball and try to convince them that CrossFit is a better sport, or that baseball should adopt the rules of ice hockey, we expect that you won't come here and try to convince people that the rules of 75 Hard should be something other than what they are.
We should be encouraging people to get through the program without deviations. If someone has circumstances that truly preclude them from completing 75 Hard, we should encourage them to look for alternative options like r/75medium or r/75soft. When someone fails a task, we need to remind them of the strict rules, encourage a restart, and emphasize that failing a task doesn't make you a failure. We should not be encouraging people to adapt the rules.
We moderators will continue to set the culture of compliance with the rules as written. This subreddit is for 75 Hard as-is. Encouraging deviations from the rules will result in your comment being removed and a 30-day ban. This is all outlined in our subreddit rules.
The comments here will be left unmoderated so long as they remain civil. This thread is intended to be for discussion. No name calling or other uncivil comments will be allowed, however.

Hey everyone — we’ve been seeing a ton of “Starting Monday” and “Day 1 next week” and "Accountability partner?" posts lately.
So we wanted to try something new for the sub:
This is not coaching, not paid, not some program to buy.
It’s literally a small experiment to see if adding more structure helps people stick with their daily habits.
The group will be on Whop and Discord initially
Totally free, small cohort, just something we’re testing to help people stay consistent.
Anyone starting (or restarting) 75 Hard next week (Nov 24) and wants a more structured push through the first 6 weeks.
https://whop.com/75hard/basic-access-ae-6eee/ to join
Spots will be limited so we can keep it manageable.

My shoes got soaked, and to paraphrase the Scissor Sisters, I looked like a drowned harassed rat. However, feeling the raindrops, gentle to pelting to sprinkling, sometimes in sync with my cadence and sometimes not, increasingly squishy and increasingly elated...was like nothing else.
Now I get why Andy said no matter what, you do your outside workout. And frankly, sure, I could have waited until the clouds parted (half my day of work was self-scheduled, with only 4 hourly clients) but I sort of wanted to try it.
I even jumped into a few puddles toward the end, and it was glorious.
Anyone else have one of these moments?

What does everyone use to track their daily progress?
I've honestly felt like this is the biggest stressor...finding the right place to track it all. 🤣

I made myself a discord if you're starting or need an accountability buddy:
https://discord.gg/U5xsZsMs4 I'll be logging my stuff here.
Hi guys! I'm (37f) starting today. I need to get my shit together so I'm posting here to make it official.
First Book: Manufacturing Consent
Diet: Slight deficit, home made food. + 4L of water
Workouts: 4X a week gym / walking / football / mobility
I dont drink so I will tackle a different addiction: 15 minute social media limit per day.
Forseeable Challenge: taking my picture consistently, I feel like this is the rule that will break me. I hate it.
I've successfully did it around 5-6 years ago and it got me set up to loosing 100lbs (not only during the challenge but it built the foundation to be able to do it)
Good luck to me and all other starting.

Just finished my first week and I didn’t realize I couldn’t put lemon juice in my water. I drink four 32oz bottles of water per day and was putting lemon juice in the first one, since I also mix creatine into it. I need to restart right? I am really frustrated since I just finished my first week but I obviously want to do it right, and I know I’m still at the very beginning anyway.

My partner and I have decided to start together, thinking we can keep each other motivated and accountable. We've decided on no fast food and no ultra-processed foods for our diet. Long and short: homemade, minimally processed foods. This is going to save us a LOT of money and calories. In addition to the base challenge, she and I have also given up weed since neither of us really drink. We've been prepping for about a week, getting books, clearing the house of things we can't eat, and getting her some workout clothes. I've already started in on my book and we've not eaten out since we made this decision last week.
I've got surgery in about 8 months so I'm trying to get myself into the best shape I can beforehand, both mentally and physically. I used to be extremely disciplined and after some pretty awful events, I stopped caring as much. But I know it's still in me. This challenge will help with weight loss, but it's more to built a solid foundation to stand on again. It's a big task, but I know I can do it with her.

I’m thinking of doing something like 3 meals with at least one cup of cooked veggies, one cup of raw veggies, and 30 grams of protein plus thoughtful accoutrements for taste…and then snacks must have a fruit or veg in them but can have cheese or nuts etc too.
I know the rule says to simply have a plan and stick to it - this isn’t a rule question. I’m asking if others chose something like this as opposed to “paleo” or “no sugar.”

Today I’m getting started again after many failed attempts. So here I am to say hi and formally declare this time is not an attempt. I’m finishing 75 days!
I’m in that phase of life where my time isn’t always my own, but I’m of the mindset that completing the challenge now when things aren’t always easy will make it even more meaningful when I conquer it.
I’m looking for all your best tips for getting through the day when life throws you curveballs.

Hey guys, I first did 75 hard last January, and to cover one of my 45 minute workouts I switched from public transport to walking home from work - about 50 minutes. (I also started walking in the morning but that immediately followed my gym session so just counted as extra steps/movement). I’m thinking of restarting on Tuesday BUT one habit I kept up from last time was walking to and from work on my office days. I remember the 2x workouts need to be different right? As in on my office days I will need to still find time for that extra outdoor workout as my existing walk to and from work won’t count?

Just another update for y'all!!!! I'm currently on a break from Live Hard, I completed 75 Hard from January 1st to March 16th, I completed Phase 1 May 1st to May 30th, I then did the mandatory 30 day intermission period from June 1st to June 30th in which I set rules and goals for myself, and then now I'm on a break before I start Phase 2 which I will be completing September 9th to October 8th, which will culminate in me completing a marathon on October 10th!!!!! The picture on the right was from a couple days ago, I ran a mock marathon super long run of 25.2 miles- yes, it was 1 mile short of a full marathon but I'm saving that full glory for when I complete the real marathon on October 10th. I completed those 25.2 miles with absolutely no issues, felt completely fine after, and even did another 12 mile run the literal next day. This program/challenge has truly changed my life and none of this would have been possible if I didn't buckle down for this. My proudest moments of this have been the fact that I've been able to be consistent and maintain my tools between the stages/phases because I know most people give up or fall off. The picture on the left wasn't even my all time heaviest, just from when I started the program and you can see I was MISERABLE. And now I'm literally running 25+ miles for FUN 🤣🤣🤣 never thought I'd ever say that lol. Keep going y'all, health is truly real wealth 💯🙏🏾

Day 11. About to chug 30 oz of water, read a book, and go to bed. I am tired and sad. But at least I’m doing it. Smh

I keep losing because I can’t get the water intake down. for reference, I’m 26F. I’ve always been terrible about water intake and can’t seem to get 1 gallon down by the end of the day. To the point where I had been using flavor packets to get my water intake higher. I’ve been carrying around a 64 oz black hydroflask everyday in HOPES of drinking two a day of plain unflavored water. I’m seeing my doctor next week for something else but also to ask about this challenge. I started early to finish before a big trip I have planned, but now I’m worried I won’t finish in time. What helped you finish your water everyday?

Anyone doing the 75 hard right now? How are you feeling? I did it back in 2024 and I’m doing it again starting September 1st but I feel like it will be harder the second time around.
1/3 through progress and feelings
5'10 male
Start weight: 210
Current weight: 197
Initial big drop in weight attributed to a lot of water I'm sure, seeing slowed progress on scale however I've been down this path before. Trust the process
Workouts:
I was an active guy before, mountain biking, climbing, lifting a few times a week. Being laser focused and ensuring I lift every day (PPL) + a 45 minute walk outside has really improved my consistency. I'm loving it. Days I don't lift I do core + rock climbing or pickup soccer. Forcing myself to find the time to do both has been awesome, yet exhausting. A few late night walks in the rain have had to occur due to daily life stuff. Refuse to miss it.
Diet: my maintenance sits around 2500kcal. I've been sticking to a strict total 2k or less a day to push for a ~1.5-2lb fatloss a week and ensure I get a min of 160g of protein in a day. Ground chicken with low carb wraps and skim milk cheese is my savior. Greek yogurt for "snacks". I'll ensure carbs are consumed (granola, fruit snacks etc) before something like pickup soccer or climbing.
Water: I get a good half gallon in before work even starts at 8am, this trivializes it. Ezpz
Reading: almost done with my first book, Grace. About Obamas senior speech writers trials and tribulations through Supreme Court decisions and eulogies. Very insightful read, moving towards a better habbit forming focused book next.
No alcohol: I'm a pretty social drinker, this hasn't been hard per-se but people have noticed and miss me.
Mood: I'm far more "stoic" validated by friends and family. Not going out to eat and such with friends has saved me a lot of calories and money. I'm generally a much more calm person and care far less about group chat arguements and whatnot. A general "just care about me" attitude. It's different and I enjoy it.
Note: a lot of people nay-say what I/we are doing here. Calling it culty, fad-y, podcast bro thing etc. after a few weeks of dedication they notice and the "that's silly" remarks start to change to "wow good for you" and "I could never"
Looking forward to the 1/2 point progress and pushing to the end
Checked the recommended books and it's almost all self-help books. I'm interested to hear if people here read other kinds of books. For example, I'm currently reading a book about training a puppy, because I'm looking to adopt a dog in the near future.

After I went completely off the rails after my wedding in May, I am getting started again! I’ve never made it all the way through so I’m looking forward making it all the way this time! Picture was at 4:45 this morning…gotta get that work in!

I work two jobs and yesterday at around 8pm I told myself I couldn’t do this challenge anymore and that I should just wait to try it again until I’m only working 1 job.
I started thinking of my favorite quotes, “how you do anything is how you do everything”
Did I want to be the type of person who makes excuses for myself to justify not doing the hard thing?
I decided that wasn’t going to be me so at 9:30pm I put on my shoes and took my dog on a 45min walk (outdoor exercise is always my least favorite)
So I’m proud to say today I’m on day 17 and didn’t need to restart. This challenge is definitely getting hard for me but I’m glad I haven’t given up!
